My sisters wanted me to point out that (at least in Toronto and Montreal) when you go to pay at a restaurant, they bring a little swipe-machine to your table that lets you key in how much you're paying and how much you're tipping. It's easier to split checks AND it means you don't have to let your card out of your sight.
You can buy over-the-count aspirin with codeine there, which I've been meaning to talk to you about Barb.

Boxing Day is like Black Friday, which we don't have.
It's more like American capitalism anyway.

LOL amen sister...that hockey player obviously doesn't know a thing about coffee.
How much do you guys tip at a restaurant in the states?I was at the Sheraton Fallsview in Niagara (Canadian side) with friends over the New Years Eve weekend and I noticed they automatically added the 15% tip to the total; probably to educate visiting Americans?
One thing that wasn't mentioned: we pay a lot of tax.You only actually get to take home about 60-75% of your paycheck, after the tax and employee insurance, etc.
I was surprised when I went to help my brother (who goes to UofB;Buffalo) with the groceries...the tax was like 4%!! I kept looking over my shoulder when I left because I felt like I was doing something illegal.
