I thought you had to have a collection before you could publish. Though I know magazines will take short stories, have you thought of that?

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Not a bad idea.

My first poetry book is already on there so maybe that might help me, right?

Yes, and with the money you save on publishers fees you could pay for it to be professionally edited. Let me go through it first, that way we can sort out any changes before it goes to the professional editor to get it just so.

I have published an article in a local newspaper before, and the editor told me I was more than welcome to submit other articles and he would look on them favourably. He telephoned me at home personally, my ex (pappy Ted) said if I did that he would divorce me! Lol it would have saved me £300, maybe I should have done it! DIY divorce, well I divorced enough people when I worked in the solicitors. Who do you think fills out all the forms - the secretarys!

message 3816: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) OK. I need to sort out a synopsis as well.

message 3817: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Darkangel wrote: "OK. I need to sort out a synopsis as well."

Duh normally you do that first! Unless you're like me and do it at about chapter 20, change it at chapter 30,40 and tweak it to fit at the end!

message 3818: by Eva (new)

Eva King | 1071 comments How long is the story?
I thought you didnt have to pay blisher fees, I thought they paid you?
Ps sarah, remember the short story I was writing you said somenthing about 1sr party, still clueless about what it meant.

message 3819: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) First party or first person, written as I did this and I did that etc.

The story is 6 short chapters. I know you are meant to do the synopsis first, you know me, I never do anything the right way ;o)

message 3824: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I was thinking of re-naming it "Fairground Attraction".

message 3825: by Eva (new)

Eva King | 1071 comments hey i really liked it, quite spooky at the beginning. I was convinced he was going to turn up being a gohst. The only thing that confused me and its maybe because the kids were asking for attetion was how did they hear the voices?
I understand he has a gift, but what was it? sorry if the answers are there, but im just wondering. I prefer fairground attraction...

i forgot, in page 22 you repeated "fun fair" and "the man of my dreams" a coule of times.

message 3828: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) OK thanks for that eva. The gift is the psychic ability. As for hearing the voices maybe that can be answered possibly in a follow up! Just like a sixth sense sort of thing!

Don't mention it, it's what friends are for. Practise will make it come easier to you, the more you write the better you become. Use the synonyms in the Thesaurus, when you write a word check its meaning see if there are others more appropriate, read it with all the options.

message 3832: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) OK, thank you. Maybe I should work on the synopsis over the weekend ;o)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Darkangel wrote: "Morning all,

Morning tired, hardly slept last night! We went out for crepes at Quelven, a special type of crepe (pancake) made from Ble Noir, it's a French thing they have eggs, cheese and ham in them. Heavy as lead! How Alain managed to eat two of them I will neve know. Lol he couldn't sleep either!

We had a barbecue at the new house on Saturday after Jose finish the rendering, the back of the house which fronts the road still needs a second coat, we covered the stone with rendering because doing the joints would cost the earth both sides of the house and Alain didn't preview a stone lintel for the kitchen window and consequently it looked a bit odd!

I forgot the camera, but I promise I will take some new photos this week. It's raining here, fine drizzle.

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I didn't go to bed till late, I was watching the closing ceremony of the games.

Now I have to sort out everything here and get it ready for the temp to cover me (rolls eyes). Just know I will have a pile of mistakes to correct when I get back.

No me neither I watched the closing ceremony too it didn't finish until after 1 am! Then when I got in bed the lump of lead lining my stomach refused to behave!

I tried for an hour on saturday evening to explain the principal of an island in a kitchen and that I want to put my gas hob in it. Yes but which wall does it go against says he!

Ever felt like you were battering your head against the proverbial brick wall?

message 3841: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Yes many a times and I know it is not fun.

It said on the TV, the ceremony was finishing at 11.30pm, plus another 90 mins.

I have to admit, I was a little naughty and did absolutely no writing over the weekend, so I didn't get my synopsis done, I may see how my day pans out today and do a bit later this afternoon ;o)

NO me neither Jose and Geraldine decided it was fete and didn't leave until 7 in the evening Alain and I were knackered because he'd been up since 6.30 and Alain is a great believer in annoying the hell out of you until you join him or can't get back to sleep!

I switched the computer on and then Alain decided that we were going to eat supper at Quelven. The little village mentioned in my book where Michel is chained to the tree naked! There is an Auberge it's the one Daniel stayed in, I used poetic license and gave them a restaurant with Maitre D the lot, it's owned by Alain's brother's Brother and sister in law! Free publicity for the village.

message 3843: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Well it would be rude not to eat there then ;o) SO it sounds like you had a weekend of celebrating and why not. You deserve it.

message 3844: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Darkangel wrote: "Well it would be rude not to eat there then ;o) SO it sounds like you had a weekend of celebrating and why not. You deserve it."

The crepes were made outdoors under cover of canvas, it was the dress rehearsal for Wednesday 15th August, its a fete national and the pardon of Quelven the Angel descends from a pulley from the top of the church to the fields down the road. Some saints day or other, each village does something. We are going horse racing on Wednesday trotting, and flat racing. That is we are if its not piddling it down like it is now! I blame it on my ex, whenever he comes to France for a holiday it rains!

message 3845: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Well beleive it or not, it is not raining here, quite humid really.

message 3846: by Eva (new)

It wouldn't be, pappy Ted is in Normandy it's probably raining there too! It's humid here too and raining quite hard now. We have already lost 5 or 6 tomato plants to the mildew (the ones outside) the ones in the greenhouse are protected it will perhaps revive my poor kiwis that Alain transplanted they look as if they're dead. Alain is convinced they will recover!
