Morning, well today's weather report from Brittany it looks like rain! Sky is mixed and the wind has got up again, and this weird weather has knocked all the kiwis off my plant! This was the first year it flowered, they are auto fertile so no problem with the 1 male/for 5 females plants. Either that or the pesky birds have eaten them!

Off to Pontivy now to raid the auto bank! Lol its only to transfer from one to the other!

Q10 or weed?

message 3157: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Didn't use either, she went home to do ham, egg and chips and relax. Don't think the weather is helping much. Believe it or not we have had no rain today!

LOL! You can have some of ours - 42 degrees today!

Just been reading through some of my chapters (instead of doing some work) and am appalled by how often I write something "had happened," instead of just "happened." The whole thing is littered with "had's." How embarrassing!!

When I did the edit on the Thin Blue Line after it came back from the editors I removed hundreds of 'just' and 'that'! Apparently I wrote like I talk and never realised it!

Lol, has it's good side and bad side, I highlighted the name and year of a bottle of wine in Almost perfect and couldn't remember how to take it off. I ended up deleting it and typing it again!

That is if by tomorrow we have the yellow shiny object I'll be sure too.

It's a lovely beach with lifeguards, shame I'm to old for being picked on crumpet patrol now! Lol The lifeguards used to have competitions to see who could pick up the hottest crumpet and who could pick up the ugliest girl - ugly bird competition!

Morning hun

Sun is shining in between breaks and I have just looked online and the forecast is good at the beach so all that's left to do now is make the butties, and cook Alain something for lunch and then we're off!

I will talk to you guys later or tomorrow! Have a nice day, hey I joined Carroll's group not introduced myself being in a rush an all that.

Ps I finished 27 and yes I'll send it before I go!

I'll try, not easy surrounded by all the skinny french girls but who gives a shit! Sea, sand and hopefully the sun, Sophie will disappear into the water as soon as we land, she always does. Lol reminds me of myself at her age, never dry! Always covered in sea weed and sand! chapter 27 is in your inbox Angel. I know by the time I finish typing you'll have read it! I'll plan the next two chapters while I'm freezing my ass off probably!

Well Sophie thinks so too for not letting a few clouds deter me! I've sat on the beach in April, in rain, in howling winds that sandblasted you in late December because one or other of my daughters wanted to see the sea!

Just thought you might be interested in some renovation news. Phase one is complete (ie builders have finally finished and cleared all their crap away). You can see some pics here if you're interested: www.itsallmanana.wordpress.com

No Hot chocolate in July was necessary poor soph was blue!

Love the roof terrace, renovation is hard work worth it in the end but a pain in the crack while it's taking place. I will take photos of our new windows over the weekend and post them.

Maybe we can swap holidays when we're both finished. We have a guest room and a caravan in the garden too! and when my book sells millions of copies a swimming pool too!

Electricity is going in on Friday, Alain will have a fridge in the wendy house too! Well there's already a soa bed, a table and chairs and a sink and running water!

I am relaxing with a well deserved glass of red in silence, every one is in bed but me! Have a nice night!

Ahh yes, windows. Simon is going window shopping literally on Tuesday. The nearest town has their market on Tuesdays and apparently there's a carpenter with a stall and he's the best value around. I have given him strict instructions as to what is suitable, but I still have my doubts. Bless him! I had to google pictures of a juliete balcony yesterday as he didn't have a clue what I was talking about...

And you're right. It IS a complete pain in the crack! Swapping holidays sounds like a marvellous idea - as long as you don't mind waiting a year to two!

Nah not a problem it will give me time to convince Alain its okay to leave France and go on holiday! He even tried losing his identity card last year two days before we were set to go to England!

Men!

Ooh where are you putting the Juliette Balcony? Sounds cool, I am just about to start lunch, sophie's cleaning the old fridge so Alain can take it and put it in the wendy house, its a log cabin by the side of the house, strategically placed so he can sit out at dusk with his .22 and wait for the rabbits coming for his cabbages!

Lapin au pruneaux is yummy, but best with wild rabbit!

Yep our weather is still hit and miss too, let's hope it doesn't rain today because according to Alain if it does it will keep on raining until the 15th of August!

message 3193: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Lipman (sharonlipmanauthor) | 272 comments I'm thinking of putting the balcony in our master bedroom. There are currently 2 windows, but an internal wall is going up and one of the windows will become the window to the ensuite. Im thinking of knocking the remaining window hole into a door hole and putting french doors in (I wonder why they're called french doors?)to allow more light in and give better views from the bedroom.

There's a lot of rabbit available here too. I actually like it but I've never cooked it myself...

It's quite versatile I have lots of yummy wabbit recipes! The one with the prunes is my own invention, I soak the prunes overnight in armagnac, brown the rabbit in butter with little baby onions and smoked lardons, sliced mushrooms (hint I never weigh stuff just chuck in what looks right for the size of the rabbit) cover with rose add prunes and armagnac and simmer until tender. Add a veggie oxo salt and pepper thicken with cornflour and serve with new potatoes and veg! or salad whatever takes your fancy!

Maybe they're called French doors because they have them in most French houses? I'll google it and find out, our downstairs bedroom (guest room) is en suite or as near as damn it the bathroom and loo is next to it.

Tell me does simon play guitar? And can he sing? They are also called minstrels galleries and you can have them inside or out!

message 3195: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Lipman (sharonlipmanauthor) | 272 comments ha ha! he sings when he's had a few but neither of us are that musically inclined! lol

That recipe sounds yummy - i may have to copy!

Do you use the rabbit whole or is it jointed? I think that's what puts me off! If its whole do you carve it or does it just fall apart and everyone helps themselves?

message 3196: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments French doors were invented by the French in the 17th century apparently! To let more light into their homes, lol it didn't work well most of the French kids have glasses because their parents are too mean/scared of the cost of the electricity bill to put them on!

and EDF are b******'s if you can't pay you get cut off, even with children in the house! They really don't care if it's the middle of winter and you have no other form of heating either!

I joint it using poultry shears, or Alain does it if he's here, he has me cook it with the head too! It's a French thing, eating brains yuk - if I do it I chuck it away!

Feel free to copy, I'm sure your local butcher or supermarket has them for sale ready jointed!

message 3198: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Lipman (sharonlipmanauthor) | 272 comments that's the thing - Ive only ever seen them whole. I do have a whacking great pair of said poultry scissors though....

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments ShazzyLouLou wrote: "that's the thing - Ive only ever seen them whole. I do have a whacking great pair of said poultry scissors though...."

Are they skinned? If not to skin you just chop off the paws and turn it inside out! Simple and to make cutting the back into pieces just press down hard on the backbone with your hand it breaks the backbone making it easier to cut through between the bones. Sounds awful but that's life if you like meat!

You can stuff and roast a rabbit whole too! works best with apple grated, chopped nuts( hazlenuts, walnuts),finely chopped onion and bread and sage salt and pepper a drizzle of olive oil or melted butter and hot water to bind stuff in cavity and then sew it up with meat string or a skewer.

I like to take out the backbone and the rib cage but that requires a bit of practise with scissors Alain is best at tunnel boning, it makes carving easier! My gran used to make Rabbit Pie too, with pieces of rabbit, chunks of streaky bacon thick cut with onions, carrots, turnips, parsnips and whole baby potatoes oxo cube bottle of cider and a suet crust lovely on a winters night. You can use ready rolled flaky pastry too if you don't do pastry!

message 3200: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Lipman (sharonlipmanauthor) | 272 comments Ohhhh! I love a suet crust! Some people are right funny about suet, but it's YUMMY.

Hmm. They are skinned. I wonder whether the butcher can do the boning bit for me? I know they probably would in the UK... time to practice my spanish I think!!

And yes, cracking spines and taking out ribs does sound awful, but as you say, that's the price if you want good meat! Perhaps I'll give it a go...
