Alain! Lol Jo's dad was starting to get worried when I started researching untraceable poisons too - I can't think why?

Well I sent the recipes to you anyways if you get stuck you can always ask me to translate though you both know how to make quiche so it will just be the ingredients that could cause problems translating wise!

Mmm... me too but with the pastry it gets a bit much, gives me indigestion does pastry.

message 8406: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) If it has no pastry - is it just an omelette? Hee hee

message 8407: by Tony (new)

Tony Gilbert (tonygilbert8) Thanks all and sorry about interrupting food chat lol.

When you are planning a story, do you find it best to start with plot, background, characters or something else?
Do you begin writing before planning is complete or do you already know your ending?

message 8408: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I am terrible. I just seem to write and see where it takes me, hoping the plot will appear as and when, sometimes I have a rough idea.

I start with the characters, I imagine them until i know them like part of my family and then the story develops on its own. Is as if the character tells me what to write next, but then again I'm a bit loopy

You have to plan before you write I start with an idea that I run past the girls on here and then I invent my characters to get things moving along, then I sit and concoct a synopsis and once that is in place I start to write, though I may write the prologue at the halfway stage I sometimes come up with an ending at the 4 or five chapter stage, which I may or may not stick to!

message 8413: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "Hmmm - love it."

Lol I already have a tentative ending to GOD its been in place in secret since before Christmas, I won't let anyone see it until I get to the end because it will spoil the middle for them.

message 8414: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I have to admit, with one of my ideas, I have the starting and the end but I need to work on the middle.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "I have to admit, with one of my ideas, I have the starting and the end but I need to work on the middle."

Yes, but that's both the important and the hard bit too!

message 8416: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Yes this is very true, now to find the time to write the middle lol

As long as you add little sub plots here and there, and place a few strategic red herrings and blind alleys in all the right places. And always remember to start with a dilemma, a murder or a tragedy and keep on with the tempo for at least the first 3 chapters that way the reader will be impelled to follow wherever you may lead!

message 8420: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments I just had me a lovely email from a fan, told you my week just keeps on getting better! I even got let off painting cows this afternoon! But only because he said I would be in the way if the plumber was there too!

message 8421: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Woohoo fan mail, check you out.

What do you think of this company http://wintergoosepublishing.com/ should I send some of my poetry off?

message 8422: by Sarah (last edited Feb 18, 2013 07:03AM) (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments I know, I'll have to tell the carpenter to widen the door frames so I can get my head through without banging it! I have almost finished chapter 41 too! Haven't I been a good girl today!

I'll check the link out now! Or rather I won't, my security check threw up a big red cross and told me to hold my horses (well it actually said whoa! do you really want to go there, unsecure site, possible risk to your computer!)

message 8423: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments I checked it out through a more secure porthole, they seem genuine enough are they vanity or pay to publish? Or do they pay you?

I am now going to erase all mention of my kids in my author bio, apparently it's enough to send an editor to sleep....So why do they ask you to tell them all about you in the first place if they don't really give a fig?

message 8424: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I will have to read more up on them, but they pay royalties apparently. Will look into them.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "I will have to read more up on them, but they pay royalties apparently. Will look into them."

Okay, I'm gonna sit on the fence a while, even if it does poke me up the bum! I have prepared The Menorah Murders to snare me an Agent, but if it doesn't happen for some reason I'll put it up on Amazon and go it alone, after the Raider fiasco I am very wary indeed!

message 8426: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Scary stuff, my followers and following on twitter have all the same numbers only in a different order! Do I need to get out more?

message 8427: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I will look in my magazines ans see what companies are accepting manuscripts and get back to you.

message 8428: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "I will look in my magazines ans see what companies are accepting manuscripts and get back to you."

I want one willing to pay me this time or I might as well stay with Amazon and publicise myself - It's that that takes the time up! And without it you are p*****g in the wind!

message 8429: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Yes, I know what you mean.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "Yes, I know what you mean."

I'm waiting for Sophie to arrive, I have been summoned by Alain to bring my car to move a trailer out of the way of the fosse man!

message 8431: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Is Sophie not on half term?

message 8432: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "Is Sophie not on half term?"

Not yet, she starts her holiday this Friday coming! The holidays are staggered countrywide so that the whole of France into skiiing doesn't descend on the ski resorts all at the same time, there is a weeks overlap. No one can afford to go for 2 weeks skiing unless their rich!

message 8433: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Thats a pretty good idea actually.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "Thats a pretty good idea actually."

Yep, and it changes each year each group get a turn at each of the dates.

It was a no go with the trailer it wasn't a conventional connection on the trailer, just a ring and when they attached it to the tow bar it was nose down instead of level! Needs a tractor to shift it!

What a busy morning I've had, answering emails from my new friends here on Goodreads, all 13 of them, I still have 5 to go!

I have been pushing the book, and I am finally getting to grips with Linked In, at long last, I think!

Lol, that doesn't leave much room for manoeuvre does it and the only consequences I could think of would be the girl ending up pregnant or the wife of the husband finding out he's been bonking young bits of fluff.

Ah I think I see what the problem is - its a Christian publisher, they are keeping in with the morality theme! And your link doesn't work Eva. Maybe him upstairs has the hump because you mentioned 50 shades of Grey!

Oh, yes I suppose it is, but normally the ointment/drops stops the itching straight away. I think they're being a bit over cautious.

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) It was white with frost this morning. Clear blue skies but very decieving.
