A lot of the short stories I have written are quite dark but I have done a few humerous ones. My most recent one (the only one I have self published) is about a little boy who is dealing with the loss of his mother - I am not sure what style I would put that in.

I didn't complete it, got to 36,000 words which I was very happy with. I haven't reread it yet though lol.

I started writing because I hadn't before! I have always been a reader, ever since I was young. I will never know why I didn't start writing earlier. I love it.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Tony wrote: "So, all. What sort of things do you write?"

Comedy romance, erotica, murder mystery, paranormal with or without the romance, psychological thrillers and I dabble with a little poetry, Pam Ayres style mostly though the poetry in The Menorah Murders is very deep and dark.

message 8008: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I need to get back in to Eva, not added anything to it since, but keep getting different ideas for different projects. I may go back to it this weekend. How is your chick lit coming along.

I got to 19,555 words. Not bad for a first attempt, but the trouble was trying to find the time to actually do it.

Not sure I will have the time to spare, what with trying to finish HOD and editing The Menorah Murders and moving house, not to mention all the painting and re-upholstering the sofa's and varnishing the dining table and chairs and re-covering the seats, and tiling two bathrooms. If I stick a brush up me bum I can sweep up while I work!

That should be classed as a four letter word, I'm doing that now too, and probably will be for the next few weeks off and on. 2nd Novel is off to be edited this Friday.

re-arranging the words is more the problem I have, with speaking a second language,French, and one which I use more than English I now think in French, and some phrases are backwards written in English - they still make sense but read better when turned around. Stray commas too, I'm a little devil with the commas, I stick em in all over the place and then when I read it back out loud I think. Duh why is that commas there?

message 8015: by Tony (new)

Tony Gilbert (tonygilbert8) I, have, the same, problem with, commas, and to a lesser extent, the semi-colon.

He reckons he's done his share and now it's my turn! And I don't think he'd know where to start with the uphostery, and I've seen his attempt on varnishing, trust me it's better if I do it, I at least don't get runners and his idea of doing the tiling is getting someone in to do it and paying them!

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "Hey, loved your short story you did for the anthology!"

Short for me tends to be of 40,000 words! I tried competitions but they only want 2-3000 words, I'm not even getting warmed up by then! Now if there was a competion for synopsis writing or blurbs I could hack that! I once saw a competition to change the ending of a famous authors book - You had several to choose from, unfortunately at the time I was busy with Cally's Secret!

message 8029: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I was thinking about it. Will ahve a look at some of my stuff later and maybe edit a few things.

My books have started their migratory passage into cardboard boxes but I'm holding off putting the china and crystal away until I have a fixed date and with no fosse that could be anytime! The electricity should be going on this week but so far not a peep from EDF, typical just because we choose not to have them supply our electricity they are dragging their heels. Well they haven't been exactly helpful and they are expensive - even 50 euros less a year is 50 euros I don't have to pay them!

They tried to make me pay for electricity I couldn't possibly have used since the house was in Normandy and I was living in Brittany. And the house was empty, I sent them photographic proof there wasn't an electrical appliance to be seen!

And I'm not talking a couple of Euros they tried to bill me for 800 Euros! I dug my heels in and they backed down, eventually!

I was told at a writer's workshop that the one I am working on was counterdicted itself in places and other small issues but it is a strong story and was told to KEEP WRITING ( yes it was almost yelled at me)

Do you mean 'contradicted' itself in places Trisha? Happens sometimes and yes always carry on, that's what editing is for. In order not to contradict I find reading a few chapters back before I write.

Try printing it out each time you finish a chapter and reading it through aloud, you will find your errors and then you can go back and change them whilst it is fresh in your mind. Makes the editing process so much easier.

She's quick and good too!

message 8047: by Rishika (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Trisha wrote: "Yea my spelling is aweful"

Never mind, not everyone can spell, my eldest daughter can't spell for toffee, when she needs something spelling she either texts me or googles it! The fault lies with the way she was taught to read she's 33 in April the English education authorities decided in their infinite wisdom to have the children read phonetically, not giving a second thought to the repercussions it could have on the childs ability to spell correctly!

Just make sure you have spell check go through all your documents and when in doubt you can always ask me - the human dictionary!
