Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Lol just watching the news it seems this year even the pope Tweeted his message to the people!

Did the Queen tweet too? And in Japan an aquarium emptied the contents of its tank of sharks onto an unsuspecting public when the glass gave way!

The sharks must have been petrified.....

I'm back completely shattered and stuffed with KFC Alain had to eat most of my chips otherwise I wouldn't have had room for the Tiramisu.... I'm bad, but sod it, its Christmas!

Your parcel came too today whilst we were out.. Happy as a pig in muck I have oxo's again and I have peppermint aeros ye ha thank you so much for that.

Sophie has munched her way through one of the Aero trees and is almost through a box of celebrations - the word diet will be bought into play after the new year for both of us.

Lol I will have to eat twice as much in order to lose weight!

No not yet please Eva or I won't be able to participate I am going to be busy now until we move into the new house and I still have to finish HOD.

We have the floor tiles for the landing upstairs and the bathroom and the cupboard/pantry in the kitchen and tomorrow we are going back to fetch the parquet flooring and the plinth for the bedrooms in honey oak, though in fluorescent light it looks more grey in colour.

We picked the lounge/kitchen/bathrooom and passage tiles and the kitchen and worktops too, its a burgundy red with dark grey worktops with stainless steel oven and hob unless we can get black that is. We also got a real bargain with the lights for the kitchen and lounge 1 euro each!

Eva King | 1071 comments They do look amazing! oven though, you're kiling me! It's funny what it says about nutella being used a lot in italy, here as wel, I used to see kids outside the school with sandwiches full of it, and it reminded me that so did i when i was little, now it's part of our shopping. Once every two weeks i get a new jar. Not for me though, lol

Santa didn't bring you a mini oven then Eva, what a shame and the move before Christmas didn't happen either I take it. Poor you, maybe you could pick one up in the sales or at the hundreds of Cash Converter shops that are popping up all over the World. I have an old dusty one in the garage and I would happily give it to you if you were in France!

Sophie is a Nutella freak, Alain too, Jo and Chris used to eat a huge jar in two days, it's addictive except for me, too sweet! I will be making these because the man loves Ferrero Rocher I will of course be obliged to eat one and that will probably be the only one I get a chance of!

message 7371: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I might as well eat loads these few days, as I will be starting a diet and sticking to it this time, might even attempt slimnming world, isn't that the one you did Eva? I can't seem to get on with Weightwatchers. :o(

I did slimming world yonks ago I lost weight but as soon as I came off the diet the weight piled back on two fold, the only one that worked was the one where you count the units of fat you eat in a day maximum 30 units a day instead of the 70- we woman need to keep the weight constant. The weight stayed off for over a year and only went back on when I got lazy and stopped counting - though 50 grams was my balance weight - 20 grams under the daily limit!

message 7373: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I remember you saying about this. How do you work out the fat that you are allowed to eat? Is there a link to it?

message 7374: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "I remember you saying about this. How do you work out the fat that you are allowed to eat? Is there a link to it?"

I used to have a huge list of nearly every food you can think of and its fat content per portion. There were lots of free foods and alcohol was okay too, though I kept that to the weekends only. Basically if you can read a label you can lose weight without paying out money to a sliming club.

If I wanted to go out for a meal and not worry about what I ate I used to pick low fat options for the day before and the day of the meal and sometimes the day after depending on how bad I was... Fresh cream pavlova bad usually!

All the3 be good to yourself stuff was free food, likewise sugar puffs they advised eating them as a snack without milk when you were hungry - tinned rice pudding too and baked beans and spaghetti were all fine. Bread was limited to 3 slices a day you could eat rice, pasta and potatoes and you had up to 2000 calories a day to play with as long as you didn't exceed the 30 grams (the odd gram here and there was okay).

It was published in the Daily Mail in 1996/97 I lost weight, lots of it all my cellulite and unfortunately my boobs shrunk. Ye ha there was a god!

The only other diet that worked was the Salmonella one, but I don't advise anyone trying that 25 kgs in 2 weeks - like my boss said a bit on the drastic side!

Eva King | 1071 comments @Sarah, nope, no luck on moving before crimbo, we saw an amazing flat through an agency, but Ross hasn't worked in spain long enough (hasn't paid tax) then they asked us for a garantor and they didn't accept them from the uk, after that they told us that the only way would be paying for 6 months deposit, aye right! like that's going to happen. Next month ross should find out if he is getting a fixed contract or the sack, so it's just wating. The plan now will be on selling our flat in scotland (I've read that the property prices are not as bad as here)and then buy all at once one of those repossed houses.
@sharon, it's slimming world, i found it so much easier that ww, I'm guilty of licking the knive i used to spread the nutella.

I started listening to the soundtrack of bridget jones, when i was writing that one of the greek gods there was a fight scene and i listened to prodigy, if it's a sad bit i use coldplay or radiohead. but chicklit is pretty easy, just whatever is on the charts makes it easy enough to get me inspired.

Happy New Year to you too Tarian, I have to clean too, tonights meal is simple - amuse bouche instead of a starter, I have prunes in bacon, smoked salmon, crab claws which I think I will open and make beignets with and maybe the gambas I have in the freezer too and smoked duck slices there are just 5 of us so I won't do too much or we won't eat the Paella Royale missing the calamari because its like eating india rubber and the little cup cakes and raspberry tiramisu to follow. A bottle of sparkly jumped in the trolley for midnight what's everyone else got planned for munchies?

That's a good idea about the house, how's the job situation in Scotland now? Alain would love to visit Scotland preferably in August around the 12th - for the grouse shooting when I'm rich I am going to buy a scottish castle complete with a drawbridge and portcullis if I can find one and ghosts, a scottish castle just has to have ghosts!

And we all lick the knife/spoon that's about the limit of my nutella eating I'm afraid.

My preference is either Michael Bolton, the Four Tops, Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye even Celine Dion at times and there are a few of the French singers I like too in moderation Patrick Bruel, Christophe Mae even Tina Arena! Sad, but true I also like the old Madonna hits and of course the Eurythmics, Tears for Fears. Depends on my mood and what I'm writing.

We had a light lunch, st Jacque quiche from Lidl and saute potatoes and a whisky to warm me up its chucking it down here and most of my shopping is imprisoned in the car I'm waiting for a lull in the downpour... I don't need to get any wetter today.

Next New year so am I stuff it why should I spend hours cooking for nothing! I'm only doing a meal this year because we weren't here for mother Christmas Eve. She likes my Paella too we always take her a portion for her to warm later.

I just braved the weather and emptied most of the stuff out of the car at least now I can get started on stuff. Making Canapes is fiddly so I am starting with the prunes wrapped in Bacon, and then the cakes and the dessert, my chicken is defrosted my prawns are about to be topped I'm leaving the tails on and I have some frozen ones for the Paella that way they don't get overcooked.

message 7388: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments And on that note I am going to disappear and get cracking or nothing will be finished in time.

Happy New Year to you all, wherever you are, whatever you're doing - and I will try and get online after the clock chimes and send photos of our party albeit a very little party, which will be light on alcohol because mother disapproves and someone will have to drive her home too.

Morning and a Happy New Year to you too! I am not sure happy is a word I would use to describe it so far though - Sophie has been sick twice this morning and I'm coughing my socks off - and the dog has just farted under my chair, god he stinks! The weather is grey and rain is lurking close by even after it rained from lunchtime News Eve up until yesterday afternoon and then started again in the evening!

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) I know what you mean. Monst is ill, stayed in bed for the majority of the day yesterday and not gone to work today. He never takes a day off work so he must be bad. Only managed to eat some soup yesterday, think he actually got up for a maximum of 4-5 hours then went back to bed. Just hope I don't get it.

Poor you, but at least Monst is old enough to deal with it himself! Sophie felt the need to come and wake me up to tell me all about it! She is very good she deals with it herself but does the dying swan afterwards. I sent her back to bed to die in peace - that is the last thing I need coughing like I am at the moment, it could be very embarrasing! Good job we have 2 loos is all I'm going to say!

I stayed up watching a film until 2 this morning so I didn't wake everyone up and as soon as I got into bed I started coughing so its a good job I did!

So all in all its an auspicious start to the Nouvelle Annee!

Sophie has just informed me she's melting... the joys of motherhood! Like I said good job we have two loos and lots of bleach and she's now relegated to upstairs for the duration!

We were supposed to go to friends last Wednesday evening, we were not looking forward to it and when they didn't ring to confirm the time we were quite happy. I rang to apologise the next day coughing and sneezing and she said it was best we stayed in the warm as she had gastro enteritis, I hadn't heard a peep out of her until a text wishing us Happy New Year. Alain said to invite them for an appero Saturday evening in a bug free zone! They have all 4 had the bug and now Sophie has started without being in contact with them! Which means the virus is airborne - joy of joys maybe the end of the world did actually begin..... Floods, pestilence what comes next....

message 7398: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Sharon wrote: "BTW, How did the cakes turn out?"

I made one giant cake as I couldn't find my cake papers, I put a photo on my photos Alain cut it and said I hadn't mixed the chocolate in properly as there where bits of white in it...and then he bit into the Ferrero Rocher inside. I think the small ones would be better as the time to cook a whole one has made the chocolates inside a little on the chewy side but its nice all the same.

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments This dog is going to have to go it keeps sneaking under my chair and letting rip - and I let it outside a few minutes ago! It is contributing to my cough now as I have to keep spraying air freshner!

I sent Mrs Robinson a Happy New Year message and informed her we were all ill. Just in case she gets any ides of turning up here with her suitcase!

She will have a long walk back to whence she came if she does!
