new_user | 755 comments What is the coolest, most interesting, or weirdest thing you've seen in a SFR, be it a power, a device, an alien, whatever! It's scifi, there must be plenty! LOL.

Michelle Gilmore I'm not sure what its called, but it's the thing from Star Trek that would allow people to materialize in one place or another; you know when Capt. Kirk would say "beam me up Scottie." Can you imagine if there was really something like that?!

message 3: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments LOL! That would be awesome!

Frances (mothindarkness) I adore the telepathic braid in Avatar that linked the natives to their mounts. Talk about taking "in unison" to a whole new level.
I'm always a big fan of a good android as well...especially if it does the dishes.
But the oddest/coolest would have to be the cloak the heroine wore in the book Hellspark. It was actually alive and constructed of a highly restricted moss..only one could be on any given planet at a time, but the cloak gave her all kinds of blending in abilities. Almost like wearing a chamelon.
:-)

new_user | 755 comments Oh, cool!

I liked the wrist device on the heroine in the Silent Blade short story. It's like a whip made of energy but much easier to handle. Pretty neat!

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) | 67 comments The coolest thing for me is the lightcycles, disc wars and lightjets of the Tron series. Love those! I'd play in the games but would hate to lose lol.

Oh yes! I'd love a transporter in my house! Lol. Would make getting around so much easier. :-D

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments I like the things you've all mentioned and a lot more. I just can't think of them all at once. LOL. I think my favorite is the Tardis. And I just saw something interesting on Doctor Who--sharks that swim in the gases of an alien planet. I couldn't hear all of the reasoning because the kids were too loud but it sounded good.

Frances (mothindarkness) Space sharks? Wicked. :-) I know there's a theory of huge methane based lifeforms that would swim through space...very very slowly...

Jacqueline J | 154 comments Well this is from a book called Gate of Ivrel by CJ Cherryh. It is not really a romance although it does have romantic elements. It is one of my all time favs. It is the story of Morgaine who is travelling through star gates and closing them behind her because they have been deemed too dangerous to exist. Each gate opens into the future and no one knows what will happen when you go through the last gate.

On one planet she picks up a disgraced warrior named Vanye who follows her on her quest. That is where the romantic element comes in. You know he loves her but it is basically unrequited because she is so focused on her task. But they stick together from then on. There are 4 books. In fact that 4th book is the only time in my life that I put a book down and refused to finish it for 2 months because I didn't want the story to be over.

Anyway, she has a sword that when it is unsheathed sucks everything before it into nothingness in a huge whirlwind. Now that's a weapon.

message 11: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments Whoa! I have to agree, that is one impressive weapon!

message 12: by Hmr28 (new)

Hmr28 | 71 comments Living hair! Ann Maxwell's timeshadow rider had a character whose hair reacted to her surroundings, sometimes with rather interesting results!

message 13: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments No way! That is an interesting talent! LOL.

Has anyone read the Pern books? I always thought it was so neat that the dragons' eyes changed with their moods, like mood rings, LOL. So cool!

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments In the show Andromeda, one of the women had nanobots in her hair so she could change it's color at will. Once she made it plaid.

message 15: by Hmr28 (new)

Hmr28 | 71 comments Oh oh for a cool device, how about the makeup/tatoo, nail color/hair color changer thing in 5th element! Man I want one of those...

message 16: by AnnaM (new)

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments Oh I remember that now. It was cool.

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore Maybe this one just came to mind right now because I'm hungry. There was some sort of computerized cook on The Jetsons, a cartoon from the 80's (for those that don't know!). Well, if I'm remembering correctly, you could tell it what you wanted to eat, and voila! You'd have it.

message 18: by Jacqueline J (new)

Jacqueline J | 154 comments Speaking of the Jetsons, I want that flying car that folds up into a brief case!

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments LOL! Now that is a cool car! Now that you mention it, Michelle, I think I saw a few in-room cooking machines in a bunch of SFR, LOL. It must have universal appeal!

LOL! I would like that too. Especially now that I'm back living in an area that has that alternate side of the street parking, ugh!

I guess the closest we'll get to that is ordering take out, LOL!

Rosie! I remember Rosie!

message 23: by Jacqueline J (new)

Jacqueline J | 154 comments If only there were takeout out here in the boonies where I live. That's why I need the flying car. And I want to be able to just tell it "take me to the grocery store" That way I can read more books while it drives!

message 24: by new_user (new)

new_user | 755 comments LOL! I like that about Nalini Singh's cars. They're totally auto. :D
