So...in my story there are four girls, later on five. Should all the mermaids have the same color of tails or various colors? I know it's a small, insignificant detail, but it's sort of niggling at me. Which should I do?

i think you should make them different matching their personalities. it gives them diversity.

What mermaid freak said. That's what I did with mine and I love to see how different people math different colors to different emotions.

I think that's that! I've got pretty much the whole series outlined, but I don't know how to start it.

You could start by reading some mermaid mythology, and maybe something stands out that you could write a story on. I got my idea from shows like Charmed, three sisters with magical powers, but I thought mermaids are cooler than witches, so I came up with my own story! :D

I'm currently working on a more adult-ish series about where mermaids have revealed themselves to humans and now hope to be accepted into modern society, except humans aren't so ready to accept them, being that mermaids once lured sailors to watery deaths. So there's definitely some tension between the two races. Meanwhile, a young woman living in Florida who is secretly a mermaid with a troubled past is trying to patch things up with her human boyfriend, being that she doesn't want to share her mermaid side with him just yet, and this causes an imbalance in their relationship. She has to swim every night, and he thinks she's cheating. She won't talk about her family, and he thinks she's ashamed of him. But meanwhile, a former flame, the mermaid's ex-fiance, a merman, comes ashore, wanting her back. And there's also about to be a feud between the mermaid Queen and the human world's leaders.

Sound good? I'll post the first chapter when it's done!

Yep...I completely understand....I am always coming up with plots to stories, and I try to type them or get them down on paper, but...then I get another idea and the cycle continues....

I started a mermaid novel...but, its kind of weird, and I haven't even gotten to the actual Mermaid part...and its more about a girl liking a boy who has been her friend for like years, and he secretly is a merman...and he never told her, and then the fighting and such continues, and she announces her love for him, and he loves her back, but is too afraid to say so....and then the ending i'm not so sure about....

I just noticed that that whole entire paragraph I just wrote was one big run on sentence....nice

Oh, maybe for the ending he could be summoned back to the sea by the other merfolk, maybe because he's a prince or a warrior or something, and he has to leave her, even though they're in love. And then you could add in a villain, maybe an evil merman or jealous mermaid or something. :D

I'm still working on the sequel to Soul. It's pretty cool. I had one of the friends try out the whole mermaid thing and I think she's going to get called out to sea because the population is draining as so many mers want to be humans.
