Christine (mistmira) Lol love this! :) When ever my daughter and I sit at the table and since it's a bench seat, I ask her if I can get up. She ALWAYS tells me, "You shall not pass!" Second Breakfast is the best! When I saw the one for the screensavers, I immediately went to the site and watched the movie except on the homepage! Guess what I'm going back o watch after I'm done here? ;p And the only thing I want for Christmas is a wonderfully hardbound copy of the lord of the Rings.

Kimberly Rahi (kimmierahi) I read an article in Huffington Post today comparing Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. I blogged about it and then set up a poll for people to weigh in. Please take the time to read the short blog post and weigh in on the poll. Comments ALWAYS welcome on my blog.

Evelina (EvelinaOfTheElves) | 32 comments One time, I went to Hot Topic, and they were selling these "Gandalf" hats that had an attached beard. :) I walked around the store wearing one and yelling at customers that they couldn't pass. I had to leave, though... I think I was scaring away the business. Another time, I yelled at this random teenage dude when I was hiking that they were taking the hobbits to Isengard. The best part is that he got it. And we've been best friends ever since.

I do every single one of those things, pretty much. Don't know if good or bad.

Did anyone go the premiere of Desolation of Smaug? I went as Bilbo Baggins. It was a double feature, so they played the first movie as well.

During the Misty Mountains song I started singing along... and then so did the person next to me. And then so did the person behind me. And eventually, I got EVERYONE IN THE FREAKING THEATER TO SING IT WITH ME. I felt awesome... I also did that with "Blunt the Knives". It was the best day ever. >.<

message 68: by Strider (new)

Strider | 104 comments Evelina, I can tell you are an extrovert! :-) As a Tolkienite, I am still a little too shy for that!! (Truth be known, I envy your willingness to express your inner excitement in such a positive way.) Oh, I go by the nickname of Strider, have all the extended movies, read all the books, speak some Elvish, have the Bilbo/Gandalf bookends in my library, and have read numerous books ABOUT Tolkien's work . . . . . but have yet to be that expressive in the movie theater. However, I have smiled with approval when the lady I was next to in the theater yelled out loudly with approval when Aragorn decapitated the huge Uri-Kai that killed Boromir. (That lady happened to be my wife. Quite unusual, as in 30+ years I had never heard her make a peep about anything from any movie!!)

Keep it up!! Most people I am sure enjoy the enthusiasm expressed by those who really get "into the moment."

I often wonder what it would be like to be in a theater watching all three LOTR extended versions WITH ONLY TRUE TOLKIENITES PRESENT!! What an experience that would be. I'd pay my nickel to be there!

message 69: by Thuan (new)

Thuan (thuaners) | 5 comments @strider i live in melbourne, australia and there is a charming independent cinema called The Astor, and around november, they often have a movie marathon day with all 3 extended editions of LOTR in one day. I went in the november of 2012, (to warm up for unexpected journey coming out haha!)... and it was such a fun day!!! The audience was FULL of fans.... they cheered and applauded throughout the movies. when legolas said he was taking the hobbits to isengard, they all laughed!!! hahah.. it was awesome! they cheered when the movie started, when the movie finished.
yes! it was so good! those are the people i want to watch these movies with :D

message 70: by Evelina (last edited Jan 22, 2014 12:51PM) (new)

Evelina (EvelinaOfTheElves) | 32 comments Haha, I can be an extrovert but only when I'm talking about something that I really love. Lord of the Rings gives me a lot of courage. I want to be as brave as Aragorn, as loyal as Legolas and Sam, as ambitious as Boromir, and as full of humour as Gimli, Merry and Pippin. When I'm thinking about LOTR, I can do anything. I can get really random... xD But if I'm not, I can be kind of shy.

I would LOVE to go to a theater where they play all three! :O

@Thuan That sounds awesome! I wish I was there for that, bro! Them hobbits tho...

@Andrew Woah, thanks! :O That's really nice of you to say! :D

message 71: by Strider (new)

Strider | 104 comments Thaun, one of my kids has a LOTR marathon about every two years. About 10+ family members show up for it. And even though some are very "expressive" at times, I cannot related to an entire theater of fans "getting into" the movie with a full heart and spirit.

I don't think I would want to attend one of those in an Orc or Sauron costume!!! :-D

Lynx | 25 comments Strider wrote: "I don't think I would want to attend one of those in an Orc or Sauron costume!!! :-D"

I think it would be hysterical to see someone in a Sauron costume...that is, if they were just dressed up as the eye.

message 73: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette I probably do more than half of these things automatically. My friends think I'm crazy because I love the books and the movies. I may be converting them to the LOTR side of things though! HAHA!!

message 74: by Evelina (new)

Evelina (EvelinaOfTheElves) | 32 comments Holy Eye of Sauron... Look, guys! It's Strider! *points up*

message 75: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette GASP!!!

message 76: by Evelina (new)

Evelina (EvelinaOfTheElves) | 32 comments Well, yeah! Of COURSE Strider doesn't want to wear an Orc or Sauron costume. Why would he? xD

message 77: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Maybe he would for Frodo... just saying...

message 78: by Evelina (new)

Evelina (EvelinaOfTheElves) | 32 comments Nah, I don't think so. Not even for Frodo. xD

message 79: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette Hmm... Maybe your right!! :D

message 80: by Strider (new)

Strider | 104 comments My 4 daughters have this thing about, whenever they recall a thought, saying, discussion . . . . . that they have read or heard in the past that has stuck with them, and is relevant for repeating, should a conversation allow for the opportunity, out it comes! And I believe their enthusiasm for the LOTR has only magnified their usage of such "quotes." Be it something someone from the Fellowship had said, twitching their head like Legolas did after eliminating one of the Haradrim's elefonts, one of Gandalf's witty sayings, or whoever has said a usable line, it gets used! And the humorous part is when the others have to guess who said or wrote it. Those girls are a hoot to be around.

I can usually pick up on most of their quotes, that is until they go into the chick flick movies. Then I'm a goner!!

message 81: by Bridgette (new)

Bridgette We do that at my house too!! Good luck with that!!

message 82: by James (new)

And something I would like to add: You know you're addicted to Lord of the Rings when you actually start bowing to people when you meet them! I confess, I have done this, and it is slightly awkward in a hick town North West United States. (:

Kimberly | 3 comments Went to school during homecoming week on storybook day as Eówyn, nobody knew who I was. One kid guessed Arwen but that was as close as they came. Also, I DO have a sign on my door that says "Speak friend and enter", as well as one ring replica earrings... And the 50th anniversary edition of The Lord of the Rings is my most prized possession.

Essilie | 39 comments Since the Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies came out, I must admit that my house has been full of Lord of the Rings quotes! Every other sentence has some hidden LOTR related meaning. And I am proud to say I barely even looked at the subtitles for the Elvish!

message 93: by Rebecca L (new)

Rebecca L (rebeccalsnowe) Oh my gosh this was so funny! I loved it and I am so like several of these things! I actually know more about Middle Earth geography than earth (Like anyone cares about earth when you have Middle Earth!!), I know the history of Middle Earth from start to finish but I cannot honestly remember my great grandparents names and I am always quoting the movies and saying things about elves! I think another one up there should be "You sit for hours on end staring into space wishing you could live in Middle Earth and marry an elf, like Thranduil or something" cause I know I do!! Oh my gosh just laughed so much at this!

message 94: by Strider (new)

Strider | 104 comments Rebecca, I believe you speak for all of us who truly "get into a book," one in which we find ourselves identifying with. It must be part of the human spirit to want to sometimes experience what we both fear and desire. Both fear and desire are part of our makeup, and it is safer to "experience" both from the position of an outside observer who gives him-herself permission to taste of those feelings, while holding on to the cord of reality. That is, should the experience become too much to handle, we can always close the book, and set it aside, and enter in to the adventure when we are, again, ready to do so.

For me, one of the measures of how much I have entered into the story I am reading is how much of the story is revealed in my everyday conversations. I believe my "quotes" from LOTR give away both my love of the books and their effects on my thinking. Or, I guess we could say that our quotes from our readings we use in everyday conversations confirm they were successful in touching part of our souls. I know that is often how I can judge the effects an author's work has had on my mind.

message 95: by Rebecca L (last edited Jan 30, 2015 08:28PM) (new)

Rebecca L (rebeccalsnowe) Strider, You are very right. I know that I am always talking about how I would love to live in Middle Earth and go on all sorts of adventures but when it comes down to it I doubt that I'd really enjoy it much if I was really there. It is much more fun to fantasize about it from my computer chair drinking a glass of milk and snacking on cookies while I look at LOTR stuff than really be in Middle Earth fighting for my life. As you said we thankfully can always close the book (Or in my case turn the computer off:)) and enter the adventure when we are again ready to do so.

Again I agree with you, LOTR is one of the very few works that touched me in such a way as to stay fresh in my mind all these years.
