MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments :) Horrible, isn't?

message 154: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments I don't suppose it counts if you have lowered your pile of magazines that also are TBR? I did quite a bit of that this weekend.

message 155: by Christine (new)

Christine It counts......I need to do that to!

message 156: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments THat's why I refuse to get started in magazines. Monthly??! I'd be swamped. (again, lol)

message 157: by Laura (new)

Laura (booksbytheflame) Lol, I think I would be broke :D
Buying books and a magazine subscription. There's only so much you can do on a Woolworths salary :D

message 158: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments I edit a magazine so the darned things follow me home and lie around my living room. I believe they propagate there, but this is a family website, so I won't mention that.

I know what you mean. I was a bad boy this past weekend and bought myself an anthology I really didn't need, but really really wanted. LOL

message 160: by Weenie (new)

Weenie Hurray, another TBR bites the dust! But this thread has just reminded me about my magazine pile!

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Ok I'm screwed on not buying new books Tod just got his tax return!

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Amanda wrote: Ok I'm screwed on not buying new books Tod just got his tax return!

Even though it's not conducive to this challenge, that's great news!
I know, we're not much help around here, LOL

message 165: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments Yes, we do seem to be encouraging each other to keep our book buying habits, even when there are too many to read already. Perhaps this is why I'm liking all of you so much.

message 166: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I don't think that there's anything that could stop any of us from book buying. It's like junk to a junkie. This habit, though, is so much healthier. LOL

I'm blaming you all! and Fictionwise.com 's 50% off coupon... probowl2011

Healthier? My mum thinks I have issues! Hence the ban she's enforced :(

message 169: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments LOL I think she'd rather you have bad reading habit than jabbing a needle into your arm everyday.

That ban would indeed suck, though! You have my sympathy!

message 170: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments When I graduated from college and moved to DC, I moved in with my best friend. His first rule: I was only allowed to bring 5 books with me. Ha! Like that lasted long. I had over 20 with 3 months.

message 171: by Laura (new)

Laura (booksbytheflame) Oh definitely. She worries about the money side of things where I just worry about making enough space for it all :)

message 172: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) You should all watch Read or Die the anime movie and series or read the mangas. Let me tell ya none of us are as addicted as those girls!

So far i've not managed a real visit to a bookstore but i did pick up Shiver at Wal-mart last night along with a copy of Of Thee I Sing by Barack Obama for my son.

message 173: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments Okay, went to a B&N, but only bought two day-by-day calendars. Admittedly, one is a "phrase a day", but I don't believe that technically that adds to my TBR pile. I do have two books to read this weekend, though: Heart of a Samurai, a recent Newbery Honor Book, and Nightshade. Anyone read those before?

message 174: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Nope, but I'm going to really get cracking on Locke Lamora this weekend. Depending on how much quiet time I get, I might finish... (quiet time, how I love you).

message 175: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Konnie, who's the author of Nightshade? There's a lot of books with that title. I read one years ago by Laurel K Hamilton and it was really good; I was hoping for a sequel.

message 176: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) Umm, I just accidentally *added* to my TBR pile by going a bit crazy on the Kindle store. Do I get minus points? Is there a consolation prize for whoever does worst...? ;)

message 177: by Jackie (last edited Jan 28, 2011 02:06PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments 'Accidentally' or 'accidentally on purpose'? LOL
I'm going to have to learn how to do that to fool my husband: "No, really, it was an accident."

Me, too!

message 179: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments The Nightshade that I'm reading is relatively recent, a young adult novel and by Andrea Cremer, an author from our area. The book has made the NYT bestseller list in its genre. I'll let you know what I think after this weekend.

message 180: by Jackie (last edited Jan 29, 2011 01:37PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments I see it's getting high ratings from those who have read it. I'd definitely be interested in what you think of it.

message 181: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments My TBR list is out of control.

message 182: by Jackie (last edited Jan 31, 2011 09:53PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments So...how did every do this month in their challenge?

I made a good dent, 9 books off my shelf and 2 more currently reading. But when I look at my bookcases, they're still stuffed! How did I manage to cram these 11 books in and barely make any room now that they're gone?
I feel good that I got some books off my shelves without buying more or borrowing from the library. And since it looks like my big library sale event is not going to happen for me, I may as well continue. Does anyone else want to keep going?

message 183: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments I got three books into my dent. I hope to do the same this month, if not more. It's getting very difficult, not buying books, though.

message 184: by Konnie (new)

Konnie (Kontexts) | 32 comments I came in late, so I just got through half a stack of magazines and moved some of the TBR books from the back bedroom into the TBR stack in the livingroom (closer to completion).

message 185: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments Ummm, I bought a crap load of books. *shame face*

message 186: by Christine (new)

Christine I got 4 done and I am reading 4 more books. Not much change in my shelves either but I plan on continuing this month too. I did buy a book over the weekend, Monster Hunter International. Its one of the group reads.

message 187: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) MrsJoseph wrote: "Ummm, I bought a crap load of books. *shame face*"

Lol me too Mrs Joseph. I'll have to be consistent in February though with as many as I've bought plus what I own. I'm planning on finishing Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry (the last of the library books besides a couple volumes of Walking Dead)and then reading the books I own only (well outside of monthly reads when they come up). I should be able to stick to it with as much editing as i'll be doing on the vamp novel too.

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) Jackie wrote: "'Accidentally' or 'accidentally on purpose'? LOL

It's just so easy to buy books on Kindle. You're looking at the page, you press a button, and there it is bought. Definitely an 'accident' waiting to happen.... ;)

message 189: by Jackie (last edited Feb 01, 2011 11:23AM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments That's a believable accident. Ah, I've got to get me one of those Kindles!

message 191: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments There are worse things.

message 192: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments :) This is very true. I want to see someone trying to shoot a book into their arm.

message 193: by Jackie (last edited Feb 01, 2011 02:29PM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Or mug someone so they can go out and buy a book.

I'm having a fit of laughing here, picturing the headlines for this 'new craze'. LOL

message 194: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments LMAO If people were mugging others just so they could buy a book, that would be great for the business side of publishing. You'd see bigger bookstores with better selections.

message 195: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments And they could have a bail bond kiosk inside, hahaha

message 196: by Amanda (new)

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) Hmm "Give me all of your money! I need to get the latest Stephen King and-and-there's way to many to list! I just need them! Don't judge me I didn't ask for this! It only took one book, man just one book!"

Wow that'd be wierd
