message 13: by Simkine (new)

Simkine I don't give a lot of 5 stars to books. I like a lot of books but I keep 5 star for exceptional reads. I read 50 books in 2010 and only 3 books got 5 stars.

I would have to say my favorite was Best Served Cold by Joe Abercrombie.

Best_Served Cold

Just an all around excellent fantasy novel. Love, laughs, sorrow, blood, guts and glory!

message 14: by ✿ Deni (new)

✿ Deni (denidax) I have 6 books with 5★ out of the 59 I read this year... it's difficult to pick just one, but I think it has to be:

The Shining

I couldn't stop reading it, even though I was scared to death!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

It's rare for me to award a 5-star rating to a book. Of all the books on my Goodreads list, only two have gotten 5 stars. Maybe I should lower my standards. I'll just say that of all the books I read this year, the one I enjoyed the most was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But I'm not giving it 5 stars.

message 24: by Rita (new)

Rita My favorites of 2010 were the Harry Potter series and The Help.

message 25: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

Definitely the Hunger Games! Snuck it in as my last book of 2010 but loved it more than any others this year. This series was quite refreshing as it had been a long time since I read a book that truly caught my attention in the way this book did. I think I read the entire trilogy in 4 days and usually I'm not that avid a reader. I highly reccomend it to anyone that enjoys heart wrenching stories about dystopian societies.

my highlight was:
The Vesuvius Club (Lucifer Box, #1) by Mark Gatiss

My second favorite was The Swan Thieves.

message 34: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (omgreading) Post Office by Charles Bukowski

I didn't read too much last year, that wasn't a series, but yeah this would be it. I had read Ham On Rye at the end of 2009 and got another Bukowski book, and I guess the best thing about it for me, was I didn't know it would be Henry Chinaski again. That was fantastic, probably my favorite character in a book, and then come to find out actually reading about is books, Chinaski is a character in all of his novels. Wonderful. But yeah, that would be my pick for 2010.
