Reading Challenge for 2011

Naomi and I thought it would be fun to do a Challenge for 2011. We've played around with various ideas and came up with the below, with the help of a couple of our members.

The goal for the year is 15 books. Each title must meet the criteria of the below list.

3 - From the original Cult book list that started this group
3 - From your TBR list, preferably something that has been there for a while
1 - Off another member's bookshelf; this can be something they've already read or a title off their TBR list
1 - With a color in the title
1 - Non fiction
1 - Over 500 pages
1 - That has been translated into English
1 - Childrens book
1 - With an animal in the title
1 - With an item of clothing in the title
1 - Whatever should strike your whimsy

You do not have to post the titles before hand, just please remember to list them once you've completed them.

Whomever has completed this challenge on December 31st, 2011 will be entered into a drawing for a prize (don't ask cause we don't know yet :)

If you'd like to participate in this challenge you will need to create your own Discussion thread under the folder of Challenges.

To do this go to top right of the home page and click on discussions. Click on "new topic"- this will bring you to the page to create your Challenge. In the Topic box put your name followed by 2011 Challenge (ex - Alice's 2011 Challenge). Select Challenges as the folder. Click post and you're in business.

I am super excited, this is my first challenge since the 6th grade... good times! :-)

Interesting level of enthusiasm, but I'll take it!

Please if anyone has any suggestions for titles with items of clothing or animals in the title feel free to leave them here in the comments section.

I, for one, would appreciate any help I can get!

I've had a look through my shelves and found three titles with clothing (at a push..)


1 - The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales This is a good book. It's anecdotal pop-sci, but still very interesting.

2 - Masks of the Illuminati Do masks count as clothes? Guess so. I think Robert Anton Wilson would count as a cult author anyway. I read The Illuminatus! Trilogy many years ago and it's probably the book that most turned me onto cult fiction. Masks is my favorite of his fiction books, almost as good as Cosmic Trigger 1: Final Secret of the Illuminati

3 - Venus in Furs More notorious than notable, still worth a read to see what all the fuss was about. Definitely fits the cult tag as well.

I'll have a look 'round for some animals as well....
