Sherrie (vampirekisses2) | 426 comments I haven't read anything in that series but I have been wanting to read Mum's the Word.

I'm all caught up on that series, and the next one doesn't come out until March or April, I think.

Nairabell | 97 comments Are they addictive Melodie? I'm not buying books this year, so if I love Mum's the Word I'll have to wait till my b-day in May :(

I think so! When I started the series I think there were already 3 in the series, and after I read the first I went out and got the other 2!

Dolly (dollymart) | 24 comments Sounds interesting - I'll try this month's theme read.

1. Sports - Corpse Pose by Diana Killian sounds interesting, so I put it on hold. Besides, I love yoga.

2. New Author - perhaps I'm cheating, but I plan to read this month's pick Death on Demand by Carolyn Hart and she's a new author (as is Diana Killian, for that matter!)

Haven't started either book, but there's still time...

Update: I read both of these books and really enjoyed them. Two more authors and series to add to my to-read list!

I really like the yoga series, but I'm all caught on that series. Don't know what I'll do for a sports book!

Katherine Am still going to use my giveaway book as my new author but have also started State of the Onion by Julie Hyzy-- State of the Onion (White House Chef Mystery, Book 1) by Julie Hyzy , who is also a new author to me. This is her first so I'm not going to judge the series by it, however, I'm not terribly impressed with the editing. How many times and different ways must she tell the reader that the kitchen is small or that extra help is brought it for large dinners? Also, the book moves away from the central mystery for too long--one almost forgets there has been a mysterious murder committed!

The first one in this series isn't that great, but each book has gotten better. I have the new one, but haven't read it yet.

I was hoping that is the case--I usually give an author two before I decide he/she just isn't worth my time. LOL

Katherine I'm shocked--I didn't think anything would keep fanatical golfers off the greens--even if they had a coat of white! LOL

I had to kid you a little,Carol, since on our X-C trip several years ago--I forget where but I think, Mo--I was freezing and bundled up against the Feb cold. I'll admit there was no snow and it was sunny but I still thought the people I saw on the golf course were a little nuts! LOL

message 77: by Sherrie (new)

Sherrie (vampirekisses2) | 426 comments Finished Murder on Ice (A Figure Skating Mystery, #1) by Alina Adams for my sports theme. Kind of have mixed feelings about it, I probably won't continue with this series. Now on to my new author Ghost at Work (Bailey Ruth, #1) by Carolyn Hart .

message 78: by Nairabell (new)

Read: 2/2

1. Sports: Corpse PoseDiana Killian Jan 15 *****

Corpse Pose (Mantra for Murder, #1) by Diana Killian Night of the Living Deed (A Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, #1) by E.J. Copperman

Just finished Night of the Living Deed which I enjoyed, but sadly suffered from 'first-book-in-a-series-itis' and spent so long setting up the characters it took me nearly a week to read. There's nothing wrong with it, and the detail contributes to the storyline it just took half the book to get started.

Thanks for an awesome challenge :)

message 79: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Okay, I've done the new author challenge and today I found a Dick Francis I haven't read! So for sports:

Regarding Sookie, I heard so much about this on another site that I read (correction: listened) to the first one. It's not what I usually read but I kept thinking about it and listened to the 2nd. I did this until the 5th when I decided that the parts I didn't care for where small compared to the book as a whole. I'm on #7 and look forward to each one so I guess it is safe to admit that I'm hooked but good.

I hear them on audio because Johanna Parker has a great southern accent. Only I find myself putting a certain tone in my voice when I talk when I'm in the middle of her books. I have no southern background after all which seems strange to me. Anyway, I have to admit that Sookie is a darn interesting lady who gets in some crazy circumstances and bravely manages to get herself out with me cheering her on.

Killed two birds with one stone, so to speak. Read Murder on the Iditarod Trail by Sue Henry, which fits both themes. Liked it enough that I would try book two in the series.

message 85: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Sneaky, Heather! Wish I thought to do that--have got to cut back on challenges--can't keep up! LOL

message 86: by Judy (new)

Judy (julianka) | 38 comments I'm combining both in one too, IF I have time before January is over!

Metro Girl (Alex Barnaby, #1) by Janet Evanovich

Katherine: Hehe...Thank you. I was also able to cross off one of the states I needed (Alaska) with the Sue Henry book, for the "Read the USA" mystery challenge. So actually three birds, one stone. *G*

I'm going to be just as sneaky in February, as one of the Kate Collins books coming up on my list (Dearly Depotted) is pastel pink and is about flowers. Already have this state, though, so cannot apply it to another challenge.

I haven't thought of the 50 State challenge in ages. So many of my books are set in England it seems. But one that I just finished was in California so I'll have to go check my list! LOL

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Doesn't look like I'll get the sports themed book read.

message 93: by Caitlin (new)
