Gia Hi everyone! I'm new to the challenge this year. My name's Doreen and I live in San Francisco. I have a huge TBR pile and I want to make a serious dent in it in 2011.

I'll be starting with the 56 historical romance novels I've had for more than a few months.

Another goal is to stop picking up books just because they're free. I'm going to limit myself to only picking up the ones I think I'll read.

message 52: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Hi Janie, I have been wanting to read historical romance for a while, can you recommend some to me?

Hi Jack, welcome to the group!

message 57: by Clare (new)

Clare P (heidelbergerin) | 33 comments Hi! So I've just signed up, mainly because I've realised how many books I actually have on my shelf that I haven't read yet... so I thought signing up on here would really help me get back on track with my reading. I'm 27, live in West Yorkshire, UK and am hoping to be able to complete this challenge whilst working full time as a Project Manager. Really looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading and to getting to know you all better. Of course, if any else is in the West Yorkshire area, shout up!
Happy reading, folks! Clare

Hi Clare, welcome to the group! You should check out our January Challenge, maybe it will halp you slim down that to-read shelf of yours.

message 59: by Nicoletta (new)

Nicoletta Daum (daum9812) Hi all! Im Nicoletta from Long Island, New York. Im 25 [as of yesterday actually]. Hoping to make it to 100 books! God knows theres way more than that that I want to read. Good luck to all!

message 60: by Linda (new)

Linda Hi! I'm Linda and I'm from Maryland. I love to read but haven't had a lot of time lately to do it. So I'm hoping this challenge will get me on the right track even if I don't reach 100. Santa brought me a Kindle and I am starting off with reading some of the classics that I have always wanted to read but never did. I also like to read Romance/Chick Lit and Young Adult with some Alex Cross thrown in for excitement. Now to check out the challenge and make my list.

Clare P (heidelbergerin) | 33 comments Thanks for the welcome! I will pop on over to the January challenge right now :D thanks for the tip!

message 62: by Shannon Carly (new)

Shannon Carly (shannibal) Hi everyone! I'm Shannon, 26, and currently a Pennsylvania resident. I love to read! Right now I'm very into paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and true crime. I know strange combo LOL. I read about 123 books last year and I would love to hit a 100 next year! This group seems like great motivation! :)

lol...I know, I got so busy there for a while. And I'm doing pretty good. I'm still in the midst of holiday hell. I swear I love my family. I really do, but what is it they say about absence? Ah yes, it does make the heart grow fonder!

How've you been?

message 67: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 167 comments Mod
Be thankful! Family is so stressful. I don't know why it really bothers me. All of my family lives within a 40 mile radius so I'm used to it. The problem is there are so many of them. There's like 150+ of us.

Actually I've been able to do a lot of reading in the past few months, but since thanksgiving it's slowed down a bit since I'm always cooking extra food or shopping for something stupid. It's ridiculous.

You're going to be a senior in high school this year, right? For me that was my easiest year.

message 69: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 167 comments Mod
Werid, bc I took all AP and Honors classes, was editor of the year and participated in several clubs, plus I traveled a lot because I sang in competitions back then, and it still seemed like the easiest. But I also lucked out with getting a lot of teachers I had worked with for other organizations so that probably made it better.

message 70: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm Sashana, I'm 17 and in my senior year of high school (can't wait to get the hell out of that place). I live in Florida and I'll probably end up going to college instate even though I really want to go out of state. I'm torn between wanting to be a teacher/book editor/lawyer. I want to read 150 books in 2011.

message 71: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Thanks, Maddie. I don't know if I can't read 150 either especially since I'll be starting college next year. I read about 95 books this year so 150 is pushing it for me.

message 72: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 167 comments Mod
Welcome Sashana! My goal is to read 200 this year, but I'm including novellas and short stories in my numbers.

Maddi, everyone has different strengths. For me, junior year was hell, and most people I know that it was easy. The worst of it was, I didn't have half the responsibilities that year that I normally took on and it still seemed like I wouldn't survive it.I also had chemistry that year...and I hate chemistry! It's the Bane of my existence. The irony of it is, I'm working towards a degree in anesthesiology. Can you guess what one of the most important courses you take for that is?

message 73: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Anderson | 167 comments Mod
You will! We'll help you. But I've got to go cook and do some more cleaning. Lucky me!

message 76: by readmuchrunfar (new)

readmuchrunfar I'm going to jump into this craziness, I think. I'm Miranda, 28, from Indiana, USA. I love to read historical fiction, fantasy, and YA, among lots of other randomness, between bouts of working, training for marathons, and playing with the dog. My husband and I have a friendly wager going, to see who can reach the end of the stack first: his of video games, mine of books. I doubt either of us will ever win. :)

Deanna Fairchild (edstweety) | 14 comments Hi! I'm Deanna from Orange, TX. I got spoiled last year when I was laid off work for 3 months and got to READ READ READ! It was awesome! Working has really put a dent in my reading volume but I think I can manage 100 in 2011....we'll see how it goes! I like all kinds of fiction...not too much into non-fiction since I read to be entertained..lol! I love paranormal anything pretty much but also LOVE Janet Evanovich, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Sanford etc etc etc! It's never difficult to find SOMEthing to read!

I like Stephen King and John Saul. I've been reading a lot of vampire and witch based stories lately though.

Davina Bell (bamamama) | 22 comments Hi, I'm Davina and I live in Montgomery, AL. Thanks for the invite. I enjoy all types of books: paranormal romance, historical romance, romance horror, mystery, and many general fiction. I love a challenge, this seems like a good one!!

message 99: by [deleted user] (new)

I just found this group and it sounds like a great place to keep me motivated to read. My name is Susan, I am 46 and live on Long Island, NY. I got a full-time job for the first time in a while at the end of September, and it has killed my reading time! Before I was reading 1-2 books a day, after I am lucky if I can do 2 a week some weeks.

I am hoping posting here will help keep me on track and get my through my huge TBR pile! :)
