I just picked it up and haven't cracked it - but what are your first thoughts? I'm pretty curious about this one ...

I'm about 1/3 of the way through it and have found it intriguing. The plot may be familiar but the unique take on magic and the absence of your typical sword wielding hero (at least so far) have me engrossed in the book. I was a bit skeptical on this one (not sure why, I almost always find something to like about any fantasy), but have been pleasantly surprised. Hopefully the rest of the book will hold up. In fact, I think I'll go curl up in bed and read some more.
I've got too much backlog on my TBR pile so I'm going to pass on this one even though I picked up a free copy a year or so ago.

I'm at 20% and I'm liking this world alot ... and like Donna said, the magical system is very interesting. A fantasy novel set on world with a red sun is a cool little twist - and I'm curious if its a red giant or if the ash is discoloring it and how or if the sun's color is relevant ... For that matter, what's the deal with all the ash?

While I liked Mistborn on the whole, I didn't find it as mesmerizing as many people have. My main issue was with Sanderson's character portrayal. It felt like he was trying too hard to make them natural, which resulted in the opposite.

I immediately read the next twoo books in the series. Was very pleased with them.

He has also posted on his site that he has been working on another Mistborn triology. Hopefully, he will finish the Wheel of Time first. :)

The last series I enjoyed as much was Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" books.
