Using Goodreads for self promotion and advertising

Hey guys! I've been reading some great advice about using facebook and twitter for advertising and promotion. How do you guys use Goodreads itself? Group discussions like this one? Mass-friending? What works for you?

I love this site. I use this site through threads, and talking to people. People get interested and talk about stories. Sometimes between some authors we talk about our books. Causal works for me if that makes sense?

I'm new to Goodreads, so am finding my way in this site. There's so much to learn, but I've been pleasantly surprised how welcoming the writing/author community has been. I guess to answer Sarah's question, I'd say read, watch, participate, and see what works best for you! Like your blog, Sarah -- good luck!

I'm still getting used to this site, but was recommended it by a friend on Facebook. So networking definitely has its advantages.

I guess joining groups and contributing to the forums is a good way to start, and a few kind folks have so far even added one of my books to their 'to read' lists here.
