Overdrive now has its own epub app. No need to download to your computer. You can download directly to an iOS and maybe Android device over 3g or wifi. It works well enough though the UI is a bit funky. From the opening screen you must hit the "Get Books+" button to get to the screen with the settings button and other menu items. Annoying. Before downloading your first book, make sure in settings that you have already entered your Adobe authorization.
I knew about the Overdrive app, but I didn't realize it did ebooks too, which is cool. No ipad version though. Library ebooks seem popular; it's hard to find one that doesn't have a waiting list.
The update that added ebooks only came out this week. An iPad version is on the way. A library buys x copies of a title and, like a hard copy, you have to wait if all copies are checked out. However, the previous borrower can't forget to return an ebook. If predictions that this will be the ereader Christmas are true, libraries will find it worthwhile to spend more on digital materials.
I've been using the Bluefire Reader on the iPad for a few weeks and it works great. I love it.
I didn't know about the Overdrive update for ebooks. Last time I tried it, it only worked for mp3 books. Will try it out, but I prefer reading on my iPad over the iPhone.
