Mitch M. | 2 comments Just though I'd put up a fun post. What is your favorite zombie book and why. Mine is The Enemy because it takes a different approach to zombies and makes it only the adults or anyone older than 16 who gets it, making it a very interesting story on leadership and survival

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments Who's the author, Mitch?

message 3: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 48 comments That sounds like an interesting book. My favorite at the moment is probably The New Dead: A Zombie Anthology.

message 4: by Ian (new)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments If anybody's interested in the book Mitch reccomended, it's by Charlie Higson.

Flint | 16 comments I borrowed this book from the library, but I simply couldn't get past the fact that it was so catered to the YA crowd. I never got past the first 2 pages. I hate books that contrive some weird set of circumstances or events where only ppl above the age of 16 ending up dying or disappearing and only kids are left. It's ridiculous.

I haven't read alot of zombie novels, but if I had to choose I guess it would have to be Patient Zero at the moment with Plague of the Dead a close second.

message 6: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Oh jeez, that's like asking me which of my cats is my favorite... I love Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry 'cause it was a totally different take on zombies and I love the hero... just finished and loved Apocalypse of the Dead, the sort of sequel to Dead City by Joe McKinney and i just love his writing style. World War Z is classic and makes it seem very real. And the first Book of the Dead anthology that Skipp and Spector edited!

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments Mine remains WORLD WAR Z. I read zombie books & stories before and after, but that book really brought to life (pun intended) the idea of a world coming to grips with the undead. From the initial outbreaks to the rebuilding of society. Brilliant!

I also agree with Dana re: the first Book of the Dead collection.

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) I just started reading zombie novels a couple months ago. So far I've read Feed by Mira Grant, Hollowland by Amanda Hocking, and Dead Sea by Brian Keene. I must say I'm totally hooked!

I'll be looking at the novels everyone is discussing and would love more suggestions!

message 9: by Tyler Banks (new)

Tyler Banks (capital_tea) | 5 comments I would have to say that my favorite zombie novel so far is Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. BOURNE. great read. Zombie survival guide was good as well; World War Z is on the to read list.

Also going to throw out THE WALKING DEAD is a great series of novels for someone who might be wanting to explore the comic world. Its a solid story as well with some great art and solid writing.

message 10: by Madeline (new)

Madeline Hands down Day by Day Armagedion, but I also like The Plege of the Dead, World War Z, and Boneshaker is a unique twist on the zombie novel.

I forgot about Boneshaker. I really enjoyed that!

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments My favourite of 2010 hands down is The Official Zombie Handbook (UK by Sean T Page. It's incredible - so comprehensive in it's design.

message 13: by Scott (new)

Scott Baker | 84 comments I've never heard of Boneshaker. I'll have to check out that one.

message 14: by Jaz (new)

Jaz | 56 comments Scott wrote: "I've never heard of Boneshaker. I'll have to check out that one."

It's a good read, with a nice unique zombie subplot. The author currently lives in Seattle, in which the book takes place, and since I live here too I couldn't wait to read this. It was a well-developed story, taking some historic liberties but CM Priest acknowledges this so you know she's not stupid just having fun with the time.

I'm currently reading, well just about done, with the follow-up to BONESHAKER, called DREADNOUGHT. It's bit more of a polished story with loads of action as it takes place during the civil war. Not a sequel to BONESHAKER, but more of a companion piece as the main character in DREADNOUGHT in on her way to Tacoma, WA to see a character featured in BONESHAKER.

Confused? :o) Don't be, just read.

message 15: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments What Jaz says. I loved Boneshaker - my first venture into Steampunk too!

message 16: by Jaz (new)

Jaz | 56 comments Dana, be sure to pick up DREADNOUGHT. I can't put it down!! :o)

message 17: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Jaz wrote: "Dana, be sure to pick up DREADNOUGHT. I can't put it down!! :o)"

I definitely will!

message 18: by Scott (new)

Scott Baker | 84 comments DREADNOUGHT? Sounds great. What's it about?

message 19: by Jaz (new)

Jaz | 56 comments Scott wrote: "DREADNOUGHT? Sounds great. What's it about?"

It's about a woman working at a hospital in Virginia during the civil war who needs to cross the country and get to Tacoma, WA. She takes an airship, goes by foot and train and river boat, finally on the DREADNOUGHT, a massive engine loaded to kickass. On the way there's intrigue, zombies, steampunk devices, and guns. :o)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Rene, I love this book. Just re-read it a few days ago... the illustrations are amazing in a disturbing kinda way. :-)

Charlie Higson is the author, Mitch

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments Borders had several zombie books from Permuted Press in clearance so I picked up three. Dying to Live (Book 2) Life Sentence by Kim Paffenroth; The Undead: Flesh Feast (short stories) and Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne. Anyone familiar with any of these?

message 25: by Steve (new)

Just got Day by Day Armageddon at Borders. Looking forward to it.

message 26: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) I sadly have never read any Zombie books, I have always liked them but I just recently I realized that I am obsessed with them it seems I have been centering everything I do around them lately but good new is I got the book World War Z by Max Brooks coming and I am really excited.

message 27: by Steve (new)

Steve Chaput (stevec50) | 139 comments I still rank Brooks' book as my favorite zombie book and one I can recommend.

Day By Day Armageddon is a great series. JL Bourne does a great job with the theme, if his writing style is a little clunky at times.

I just finished Hollowland this month. Very interesting read. I didn't exactly like the way it ended, but I really enjoyed the characters, especially Ripley.

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) I know her next book is Honalee, which is due out this month. But I'm wondering if there could be a follow up book coming for Hollowland. Seems like the ending would be perfect for one. I'm crossing my fingers.

Tracy Tufo | 3 comments Mine are
Zombie Fallout Zombie Fallout by Mark Tufo
and
Zombie Fallout 2 A Plague Upon Your Family by Mark Tufo Zombie Fallout 2: A Plague Upon Your Family
2 reasons why:
1 = my husband wrote them
2 = they are scary page turners but with some east coast humor thrown in

message 32: by Mayra (new)

Mayra (MayraM) | 1 comments The only zombie novel ive read is a YA series called The forest of hands and teeth The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan , i really liked it, it tells the story of a girl, Mary, whos been born into a world were people have learned to live with the constant threat of zombies, there for there are lots of rules and restrictions to avoid the latent chaos, the series follows through Mary´s life and then her dougther´s, and how they live and survive this dangerous and mainly CRUEL world.
The book has an interesting concept taht i dont know if its present in other zombie literature, it had 2 types of zombies; the regular ones, slow, moaning, hungry ones, and the breakers, a breaker zombie is the one who after been bitten turns alone, with no others zombies around, so it turns into a super fast lethal turning machine, more interested in biting than feeding, like a survivel mechanism to keep the infection going. So no mather how many zombies you kill it only takes one breaker to start things all over again and so it never ends, zombies are forever a part of the world.

message 33: by Ruthanna (new)

Ruthanna | 2 comments World War Z is probably still my favorite, but "Day by Day Armageddon" and "Day by Day Armageddon: Beyond Exile" (by JL Bourne), and "Plague of the Dead" and "Thunder and Ashes" (by ZA Recht) are amazing series. Both authors are working on #3 of their respective series and the suspense is killing me. Although not in a rotting flesh, brain-eating sort of way.

Recht is dead, actually, but there's some rumor about his friends and publishing company (Permuted Press, I believe?) trying to collaborate to put together the third book based on his notes.

message 35: by Ian (new)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments Recht managed to finish most of the 3rd book so the editor at Permuted Press tells me, but alas yes - he's passed away.

message 36: by Mitch (new)

Mitch M. | 2 comments Thanks for all the Great recommendations! I can't wait to read some of these awesome books!

message 37: by Dana (new)

Dana | 4 comments If I had to pick a single book...Brian Keene's Dead Sea. To me his books are fast reads, I really enjoy Brian's writing style. If I was picking a trilogy...Rhiannon Frater's As the World Dies trilogy was really good I was thrilled to see kick a$$ female protagonists and it stirred up many emotions in me.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

My current favorite anthology is First Time Dead 2. I wrote a review of it.

World War Z is my favorite modern/

I considered Frankenstein as a zombie novel for a long time, now I'm not so sure.

message 39: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljcrow) Too bad about Mr. Recht. Had a lot of promise as a writer and seemed like a good person from what I've read. His books are among the best Zombie novels out there.

A ghost writer has been hired (a fan of the books)to finish it and he turned in the completed manuscript for "survivors" (the 3rd book) as of Jan 7th. From what I can tell it's in the editing process as we speak.

message 40: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments I hadn't heard about Recht's death... I loved his books. That's so sad.
