Ugh. Almost as bad as that one article were the little girls' parents forced them to dress as strippers. And still people wonder why so many young girls in elementary and intermediate schools have self-esteem issues. I understand that someone shouldn't force their daughter to dress like a nun but some people take it a little to far. Nothings wrong with dressing nice but a tween dressing like a twenty year old is awkward.

And oh my....I just hate "Toddlers and Tiaras" with a passion.

The girls seem to enjoy it. It's not like any of them are being forced in it. They LOVE it. The moms don't even make any money off it, if anything, they lose a crapton of money.

Rape doesn't happen because you dress a certain way :/

message 316: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments True. But Mandy has a point... If you dress like a slut, guys are bound to assume that you'll give sex away... And they'll think you're fine with anything. Not all guys, but some guys for sure.

message 317: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments I know that. But it doesn't mean that if a girl dresses like a slut that a guy won't think she's easy and end up raping her if she isn't actually easy. Does that make sense?

I know that anyone can be raped. Trust me, I know that. So does Mandy. What she's trying to say is that if you dress like you'll have sex/a slut then a guy is more likely to think that you're up for anything. But yes, anyone can get raped.

Alright. But the possibility is there. I'm just saying, is that dressing like a slut just makes a guy think (not necessarily do) that the girl is either easy, or just willing to do anything. *sighs* I'm not saying this like I'm thinking it.

I don't remember who said it and I'm too lazy to go back and find out ... but, I agree with whoever said thinking a girl is easy and making the decision to rape her are rather different things.

If a girl dresses like a slut, then it's probably more likely that guys will go up to her and say "Heeeyyy wanna have sex with me?" but she can still say no, and most guys would back off at that point.

You have to be pretty messed up to be a rapist, and at that point you'd probably be so desperate you wouldn't really care what the girl looks like. It's more about being in the wrong place at the wrong time than about what you look like, in my opinion.

Shreya=Drastically Random. Find the emoticon. | 1078 comments How did this conversation turn from little kids dressing badly to Toddlers in Tiaras to raping? o_0

message 333: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments I honestly think it depends on the guy. If you're willing to rape someone then you don't care who it is, I agree. But there are guys out there who have "types" to rape, just like there are guys out there who have types to murder or attack or whatever. It depends on the guy, mostly, I think.

But I do still think that your risk of being sexually abused in whatever way possible (even if just mentally/emotionally) is at least a LITTLE higher when you dress like a slut. I want to look and see if there are any statistics on this... I swear I read that somewhere, but I'm not sure if it was about this or something else...

message 334: by Brigid ✩, No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. (new)

Brigid ✩ | 11973 comments Mod
Well, I'm sure that's true that if you dress like a slut you are more likely to be sexually harassed. I have no doubt about that. But sexual harassment isn't the same as RAPE. Sexual harassment could be something just like, someone whistling at you. :P And rape is the extreme of sexual harassment.

message 335: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments I honestly wouldn't care if anyone whistled at me :P Guys have done that to me before... I get that it's considered sexual harrassment, but I don't think it's that big of a deal.

However, the majority of rapes are done by people that the rape victim knows... And if they know you dress like a slut, maybe they assume that you're easy for your boyfriend or whatever? I don't know. Like I said, it totally depends on the guy. If he's a legit psychopath he could have a type, just like murderers have a type. It's kind of a case by case thing, I think.

Heh, I would care. Then again, no one of the opposite gender has ever acknowledged my existence ... XD

That's true. I guess what I mean is ... anyone can get raped, and it may or may not have to do with how you dress. It varies from case to case.

Yeah, I completely agree with that :) I definitely think it varies from case to case. Besides that, only 54% of rapes are reported... I think it's 54%... It's around that, anyway. So why those other 46% occurred we have no idea.

Picture Perfect (picturesperfect) | 312 comments I'm kind of late here like really late. But I want to add in my thoughts to the issue of abortion.

Unless every government official had sex with every abortion-candidate woman in America, I believe that the government shouldn't be the ones to make such touchy decisions.

And really, I think that as a pretty much struggling country, we should be caring a bit more about the people we already have than the people yet to come. But anyway, I believe that it's the women and family's choice. It's a big decision if you'd be in that situation. What some people don't realize is that adoption is not this yellow brick road that everyone can skip down as an escape method. Being adopted tends to be a part of a person especially if that person's birth parents didn't want him or her.

Anyway, that's my side. I like to sit on the fence thank you very much. :)
