Well, but popularity doesn't always equal quality. I think what makes Taylor Swift so popular is that a lot of teenage girls relate to her boy problems and her "haha, suck it" attitude towards everyone who was ever mean to her, and that's what a majority of her popular songs seem to be about. That doesn't necessarily mean her songs are good, just that they're kind of generic and therefore a lot of people can relate to them. But, I don't really want to stray off-topic here ... I'm kind of biased because I don't like her music very much and I have a lot of problems with some of the messages she puts across, and ... yeah.

Yeah, the argument that by selling a lot of an album, somebody doing something right is a bit off. But Taylor Swift is awesome and We Are Never Getting Back Together is a jam!

A jam? Please. The only jamming that is going on is jamming metal rods through my ears.

You guys nuts. T Swift struck GOLD with that song. That bit where the beat gets muted? Kind of the greatest thing of my life.

Ah, you're right. I'm just slightly biased because I am kind of a giant Taylor Swift fangirl. But I haven't heard her new album yet, so.

I haven't either. Haha. I just heard her first two or three albums on repeat for a good year or two thanks to my sister. Oy vey.
Being forced to listen to Taylor Swift if you aren't into her isn't something I would wish on anyone.

For those not in the know, Jimmy Saville was a big personality in England and if I'm not mistaken was the first (..."
don't really have anything intelligent to contribute except
-Naturally, it's dreadful, especially seeing as he's such a ~British institution~ or whatever, and that's also the reason that it's so problematic and took so long to come to public light.
- I've always found him exceptionally sinister for no apparent reason, it's justified now. I know a lot of people who've very much adopted a kind of "well, I told you so" attitude about the whole thing.
- this emerged today, which is especially interesting. I guess I'd never given any thought to him not being on Children in Need, it's one of those things that just, like, suddenly makes things make sense? -Again, it doesn't surprise me that they did ban him and all that but without doing so publicly.

Tell that to my sister ... haha. Although, that was a few years ago. We mostly listen to the same music now, except she's also into musicals and often is obsessed with the same one for quite a while. Actually, both of my sisters do that. So, agh.

I'm... indifferent to Taylor Swift. I can see why people wouldn't like her or her music, but some of her earlier songs have a lot of memories for me.

((lol...not for me..."Story of Us" reminds me of when I had to go apologize to someone, but then they didn't want to talk to me...))

Or Adele. >.<

But Michael Bublé is unique, and he is magical.

Yess. Tswift is my soul sister.

I knew my sister from another mister would be with me on T Swift!

While it is kind of different, I *personal opinion here* don't think Adele's voice is at the top of the "unique voice" list. There are some very strange-sounding singers out there. Lacey Mosely of Flyleaf, for example, Alice Ripley, or Ruthie Henshall. And I don't even listen to much music that calls for those kinds of voices. I'm sure Baxter could tell you more.

She is a beast. It's not fair how she can sing a rock song and a waltz in the same thirty minutes and still sound good at both of them.

But can't you pick out Taylor Swift's voice? I've always thought she had a pretty distinct voice...

And I dislike it. xD But I admire her for her sweet personality, guitar and song writing skills.

Have you ever seen the rap she did? I just remembered that. I was a bit obsessed in middle school.

Yeah, you know, it really depends on how you define unique. I know jack about music theory or vocal...magic. So in that respect Adele totally could be unique. But to my ears she just sounds like a strong blue-eyed soul singer. There are dozens of people who can pull off the sound she does--but don't take that as a knock on Adele's skills.
Personally if I was going to be talking about unique vocals I would absolutely not be able to leave out Bjork, Kate Bush, or Joanna Newsom. But people like the lovely Jun Togawa, or Yoko Ono, or Shiina Ringo deserve mentions (obviously, along with a bajillion others). Gotta rep Japan, land of the cool music!

Oh, how could I forget Bjork?!
There are also several singers featured in the LOTR soundtrack who have unique qualities to their voices. "Gollum's Song" is a prime example.

For some reason whenever I hear a Taylor Swift song for the first time (if I don't know who it is) I think it's Miley Cyrus. ... Is it just me? XD
