But, because you don't think it's right, then that means that gays everywhere can't get married?

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments Emily- how is being gay wrong? There's gay animals. You can't really choose who you're attracted to. We don't get mad if *cough* certain people have a thing for Asians.

Acacia (acaciaa) RANDOM SENTIMENTAL ACACIA MOMENT

The reason I feel so strongly that gay marriage needs to happen is that I want to sit down with my kids in ten or twenty years and say, "See this world you live in? With equal rights for people regardless of who they love? I watched it happen. That was my childhood." I don't want to have to tell them "We got so close."

Mandy Harmon (mandyharmon) | 10724 comments Juliet wrote: "I KNOW. I want someone to disagree with me."

Well, I would, but most of it involves religion....hmm...

Let me try a non-religious POV....

For my non-religious argument, this is a little tricky...

I think, because it's impossible for two women to have a child together, or two men to have a child together, then it isn't meant to be. It's unnatural.

And whether it should or should not be legalized, I think it should. Actually, better yet, I think the government shouldn't even touch the matter whatsoever, if that were possible. It isn't up to them. It's up to the people.

Meh, I'd have a much better argument if I were to go religious, like I am...

It's impossible for people to fly ... so is traveling by airplane wrong and unnatural also?

... I'm terrible with analogies. This is why I don't get into debates.

message 870: by Picture (new)

Picture Perfect (picturesperfect) | 312 comments My stance on gay marriage is:

If you are not gay, why do you care so much? It's just a choice. Jeez, the government should really just focus more on other important things instead of dwelling on and on in the things that are just so given. Separation of church and state is another thing that I just think should be taken more seriously. And why is it "church" anyway? So, yeah.

Gays can get married or not. I really don't care. Marriage is just more a legal form of a relationship. So...yeah.

Gosh, this reminds me of the time I debated with my dad about gay marriage. For some reason, he thinks that legalizing gay marriage would cause more people to be gay. *slaps head and chokes self* That...is not right, Dad.

Infertile couples also can't have children together. And I think the fact that it's so difficult to form a non-religious based argument is important. America's supposed* to be a nation where religion and issues of state are kept separate, so gay marriage should not be a religious issue.

*I say 'supposed' because you only have to look at our money or say the Pledge of Allegiance to know that's not really true.

Were you aware the world is overpopulated?
And since i'ts not a choice to be gay, it just is, and since it's in your genes or something, ther'es proof that it is in fact natural and it's not anyone else's buisness anyway.

message 877: by Amy (last edited Jun 27, 2011 03:36PM) (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments Which picture?

The thing that irritates me about the religion argument is that we ignore so much else of religions. Like, we don't exile women to the period tent anymore, and Christians don't eat kosher, and we don't sacrifice animals, and we don't stone Tiger Woods, and we're not required to marry our brother's widow.... so why can't you lie with a man as you would with a woman?

message 878: by Isaac (new)

Ask a Christian scholar, and they'll explain everything to you. Some of the laws changed when the New Testament came, but they never changed the one about being gay is wrong.

message 881: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments http://carm.org/homosexuality

There. There's an article. The last two verses are from the New Testament.

You know what I don't get? We can't insult the gays and we must give them rights because it isn't fair, but let's personally insult a religious view because we are hypocrites and like to do things like that! All I said was I don't agree with their beliefs, but I don't bash on them. I can't state a freakin' thing without my religion being made fun of. There's not one bad word about gays on here, but look at all the things against Christianity! It is so freakin' hypocritical it's driving me insane.

message 882: by Amy (new)

Amy (runawaymarbles) | 1017 comments ....mostly people hate on Christianity when people use Christianity as an excuse to hate on other things. I'm not making fun of your religion. I spend 3/4ths of the year surrounded by Catholics. I'm just explaining why the "it's against my religion" argument irritates me.

Yeah! Exactly! They changed the rules they wanted to change, so who's to say they can't change others? Anyway, there are a lot of churches that are tolerant of gays now.

message 888: by Acacia (last edited Jun 27, 2011 03:47PM) (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) I think you have a bit of a point there, Emily, and I'm sorry if you feel that your religious views have been personally attacked.

However, I think that attacking the part of Christianity that states that homosexuality is wrong is part of debating homosexuality. I do not have anything against Christians or Christianity. I do have something against backing arguments against gay marriage with biblical verses.

Just like people have the right to be Christian and live their lives according to their interpretation the bible, others have the right to live their lives according to their religion. One person's religion should not determine another person's rights.

PS: Emily, a lot of this post wasn't directed at you. I haven't really put my two cents in yet and your post just sort of prompted it.

I accept your apology.

As I state again, I do not care if they get the rights to be married or not. I just don't agree with it. There's nothing I can do to stop it. I'll still be their friend. If I've ever been rude to them, it wasn't intentionally. For example, let's take the ninja vs. pirates fight. I'm for pirates. Let's say your a ninja and you give a bunch of reasons why ninjas are better. I don't agree with you, but I'll still be friendly. I'm not going to force you to change how you think about something. It's not my decision.
