Naw man. You'd just take out the and. Then the fancy-shmancy comma becomes a normal one and everybody is happy. Although it does have a ring to it. Oxford comma. Very catchy name.

So basically the Oxford comma and I are liek BFFs.

message 704: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) How could you NOT use the Oxford comma? I mean... seriously. Gah. I just... why?

For example:

Writers who don't use the oxford comma are annoying, confusing, and wrong.

You pause between the 'confusing' and the 'and' if you read it out loud, so you put a comma. This does not seem that difficult to me.

message 705: by Baxter, butts butts butts (new)

Baxter (julietrocksmysocks) | 2455 comments Mod
It's because 'and' does the same thing as a comma, it separates. There is NO need for that little blot on the paper to be there.

If you are writing a speech, sure, go ahead, help yourself by indicating a slight pause, but most written stuff isn't made with the intention of being read out loud, so again, said pause is USELESS.

Still...I REALLY like how oxford comma sounds.

No, the middle word needs to be hugged by commas on both ends. Also, it needs to be separated from "and," because and is a jerk and would kick the middle word's ass if given the chance.

YES! For two reasons:

2. The cover is absolutely ridiculous.

There'll be a big meteor shower or solar flare or something that will blind everyone except Eddie Izzard and people who are, uh, already blind. That's when the triffids, who have been hiding like ninjas among other various articles of greenery will emerge and chase after us in their masses and eat us because we can't see them to run away.

Yeah, but those infants will die too. This virus consumes them once they are out of the womb.

I should have been more specific with "younger population." By younger population, I mean infants.

Oh, this virus is not just a one time thing either.
