The draki are what have evolved from dragons over many thousands of years. They each can have a different ability or power, and they are each different types - such as water draki, earth draki, etc.
Their average life span is 300 years. They do not age the same as humans - they could be 200 years old and look 25. Even close to dying, they will probably not look older than about 40.
The draki can take human form, and this is their most closely guarded secret. If people knew, they would have no chance. They can stay in draki or human form. In human form they look like a normal person. When they begin to manifest to draki form, their skin pulls tight and becomes more scaled and shimmery, like a dragon's pelt might be. The pupils in their eyes turn to slits like that of a cat's eyes. Their wings are huge and connected to their back, and when in humans for they simply pull in. Their faces are elongated, with a ridged nose and bright eyes.
When draki are in human form (and in draki form) the experience the same emotions as humans. If they become frightened, overjoyed, unhappy, riled or excited in any way, they begin to manifest to turn to draki form. Especially in the case of being scared, this is a defense mechanism - they revert back to their original form, in which they can protect themselves. When they are in draki form and scared or excited, it is easily as hard to become human because they want to stay in their original form.
Draki live in prides, generally in far-off, isolated areas around forests, lakes or mountains. In their pride, they have a leader who takes care and establishes all rules and things, and the rest of them simply live in a sort of pack-like state.
If a draki were to stay in human form for too long without manifesting, he/she would begin to feel their draki side begin to die - they would not be able to manifest or fly easily. If they stay in human form for just a bit too long, their draki side truly does die and they are a normal human.
They are hunted constantly by humans who call themselves Hunters - those who know the draki live and where. They come after them for their hides and other reasons, and some believe the draki are dangerous and should be killed off. When a draki hurts a human or another, it is typically an act of defense and a lot of times they cannot control themselves.
In a given area, there might be more than one draki pride.
Hunters
The hunters are basically humans. They know that the draki are alive and exist. They have maps and weapons designed to lead them to the draki and take them down. These are the draki's biggest enemy, and they are dangerous. They can fly just like the draki, in helicopters or road vehicles, and can run almost as fast as well. They have heightened senses, generally, and they show no mercy if a draki is caught.
