Logan - as always that is a great idea, I will need probably half day to do this ... man that way I can catalog the books I own too, because I could have a tag for the location of the book in the house. hmmm ...
I have read 36 1/2 (have read halfway through the Bible). I am ecstatic to see the Steinbeck books on this list. But- now my OCD will kick in and I will feel compelled to see how many of them I can read. Admittedly, there are some that I know I won't read, but my interest is piqued!
I have read 34 - thats pants really isnt it! Kathy I am totally with you on the OCD front - I am already checking amazon for some of the ones on the list so I can reach the giddy heights of the 40's as soon as possible!!
Sigh.....I really wish I had ignored this thread.....I've read 39 of them. (Just how can the COMPLETE works of Shakespeare count as ONE book????)
So that means I've got another 61 books I need to add to my "to read" and "to purchase" list!
(Crying) (More crying) (Sound of money flying out of my walet) (Still more crying)
Or I suppose I could (as a fellow bookworm once suggested) learn to use the library and BORROW books instead of BUYING them. (Gasp!) Nah....I'll just quit buying shoes.
I have only read 20 but reading two on the list right now-22?!
Most of the books are part of the list of 1001 Books to read before you die. I should get these all read as many are on my list to read in my life time.

Oh Isabella, thank you for being the voice of reason! The purpose of this club is to allow us to talk about the books we LIKE, not the ones we are "supposed to" have read. I feel better already. Thanks Isabella!!!!
I feel better too. But, I will feel better when I have read all the books on the list. I can't help myself! :)
LOL, Stacie.I agree, we should read what we like and not feel we've been told to read certain books or else we're not well read. I've just put this list up here basically just cos, I'm not telling you all to read them.
Now, having said that, I would also feel better if I can read a few more off the list :o) Not because it's on the list, but because a lot of these I have wanted to read anyway and are sitting on my shelf so in order to buy more books I'd better get cracking to get these ones off my TBR shelves so I can add more!
And also having said that, am so excited, we've got a book sale this weekend!! YAY!! I hear all about the book sales you guys go to, well I saw a sign our local church was having one and I can't wait to get there and have a look around, fingers crossed they've got books I want.
Don't get me wrong. I am not restricting my reading to a list...Like Mandy, many of the books that are on the list are books I already own and intended to read anyway. I figure I can chip away at the list as I chip away at my to-read list.
39 - though it confuses, and annoys me, that Shakespeare's complete works are listed as one item, but Hamlet is listed separately. And also, the same with the Chronicles of Narnia/The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.Does anyone know how these 100 were chosen?
The book lists for me help direct me to novels I may not have heard of but will be interested in. SO even tho im not a SLAVE to the lists, I like browsing them and seeing how many are to my tastes......
Lauren, I was wondering that too. I think they should rename it the 98 Best Reads. This, by far, is my favorite list (thanks Mandy!) But that's probably because I've already read 50 of them and I have 15 on my shelves I haven't read yet...so this list is very accessable to me. Like Lori, I love lists! I have so many, sometimes I just browse through them. My other favorite is a list of books that have appeared on the AP Literature exam over the last ten years. Also like Lori, I'm not a slave to any of them. Sometimes they guide me and lead me to new interests other times I sit and think "What the hell were they thinking with that selection!"
The number 44 is missing so I am hoping it's Roots by Alex Haley since I think it's a great book that is a classic. I hope it makes some list.
My books are feeling neglected b/c I spend so much time trying to keep up with the posts on TNBBC! :o{I've read 29 on this list... usually I've only read 6 or 7 on a list like this.
Thanks for posting this. More to add to my TBR list!! :oP
I'm limited to 16. I'm with Ken on not liking lists in the sense that how could one list possibly define what people should or should not read. However, I love the process of browsing the list to see what I have read and being reminded of what I intend to read. I can't see how a Mitch Albom book could make this list. I did like Tuesdays With Morrie but it seemed like easy money to me!
Opps. maybe this is the list that my sister in law meant. She asked me to post that she has read 32 of the best 100 and there are 10 to 15 of them on her to read list! I posted this on Charitys thread, but I think maybe it was this one.
She is having computer issues and is stressing out from her inabilty to post!

I have read 23 of this list. I too have another list to add...1001 books to read before you die, etc..
31.... I knew all my Dickens would make me look smart one day ( although I have been told not to put all my Dickens in 1 basket.....oh...wait that was chickens ...sorry) !!
OMG Scott, I swear, you are the king of smart sarcasm...... I need to take lessons from the master!!
Master I am not......however I will tell you I would surely perish if it weren't for a good laugh and a lil Sarcasm every once in a while. ;)
I was born with the snotty sarcasm.... The kind I find funny, but no one else does apparently. Oh well!!! At least I got something to start with :)
Charity -- Damn you with the more lists! (said with love as I bookmark yet another page!)Logan -- I thought for sure you would say 98...haven't you read everything? :P And I'm soooo totally in agreement with you and the others on the "Complete Works of Shakespeare" bs...one book? Like hell that all counts as one book!!!
Mandy -- Shit, I was so far behind on reading posts that by the time I got to the end here, I forgot what I was going to say!
Oh yeah, now I remember! *L* You mentioned a book sale. My favorite book sale of the year is Saturday...it's not huge, but I scored big time there last year and I missed it the year before that, so I requested the day off from work this year to go (my boss thought the request was for some big date or something....as if!!! *L*) I'm so excited! And both my mom & I have been updating our book inventories to be prepared so we don't buy dupes. We're going to freak these people out for sure! Wish me a good score!! PS -- I will, of course, report back to you all on my haul...but I have floorset Sun until midnight or later and I'll be playing catch up on sleep for the rest of the week, so I may not get to post it for a few days!
Scott, why did you edit your last message? I saw what it said, hee hee.... Chicken.... You make me laugh too.!!!
Sarcasm is a great form of wit! Did you know that most Brits believe that Americans don't understand sarcastic humour? What misconceptions do you have about us?
I'm just worried that Brits, nay the whole world, think we're a bunch of dumbasses. Please don't judge us by our Commander-in-Thief.
lol. I think the problem is that the US is a massive entity, and therefore even if the ratio is the same as the ratio of dumbasses in Britain, it would still seem a lot more, lol
haha... I think ALL of you are funny! giggling all the time... wait, does that make me sound like a school girl? I mean laughing/snickering/chuckling to myself. :)
I've read 7 or 8 and I have or am going to get another 12-14. I'm interested in knowing who made this list because the others I'm simply not interested in and I wonder if anyone else feels the same?
Lori: I edited it because that was just mean, and sometimes when you write somthing it is hard to see the jokingness of stuff.
Scott, Goes back to what i was saying about mysarcasm... heehee.. I wouldnt get mad. Dont worry about coming across mean... YOU of ALL people, Scott.... ok??
28 for me.This list does make me feel better- But Mitch Albom in the top 100 of all time? Hmmm... It was pretty good but it wasn't THAT good.
Lori okay then I will repost what I said was you make me laugh all the time , I mean c'mon look at that Avi or something along those lines.....there ya happy now ??? :)
Mandy, thanks for posting this list, as I too, love lists!! I've actually read 12 on this list (never make a dent in those others) and have quite a few on my TBR list, so feel proud of myself. I've read some of the Bible and 1 Harry Potter, so 14 if you count those. Off to check out Charity's lists and compare :)
