Angie I really liked this movie! It was so fun..

Spoilers:
I really enjoyed the part where they were drunk together. I thought that they did a good job with the story! Who knows about part 3 though!

Karin | 51 comments I still am unsure why a second movie was made... to be honest I thought the first one sucked and had forgotten that it even existed and then I heard they were putting out a second one... It just reminded me of when they made the second Garfield movie, it's like did anyone even see the first one???
On the other hand, the fact that this one was done by the guy who directed Pan's Labyrinth makes me somewhat interested in watching it...

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) | 169 comments I've never seen the first one but somebody gave me a synopsis of movie one so I was ready for this one. Too bad it sucked. I really don't have high hopes for movies nowadays any and it wasn't THAT bad but it was kind of boring to me. I didn't like it but I didn't hate it either.

Mimmi (onedrwumn) | 10 comments I liked both Hell Boy 1 & 2. yes, its not an Oscar winner but the Sci-fi computer graphics are cool. I am just curious about the 3rd one. I won't pay to see it in the movies, just wait for it on DVD or download like the other 2.

Cyrus | 4 comments I watched and I liked it, yet the first part was superior. To me, the beauty of the first part was because of its uncharacteristic characters; and on the top of all, Hellboy. This one had more stereotypes: benevolent princess vs. ruthless prince who seized the throne, the golden (another version of Transforms, just a bit smarter), and a dim-witted boss. Yet, Hellboy is miraculous. It wroth to watch it!

Anna (lilfox) | 465 comments It was great. Worth watching.

message 7: by Alex DeLarge (new)

Alex DeLarge | 851 comments HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY (Guillermo del Toro, 2008, USA) Sometimes the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the few…or the many. This is the fatal conundrum that the fiery tart Liz Sherman must confront; to sacrifice love for the world. But director Guillermo del Toro loses focus with an orgy of special effects and creatures; a troll-market (stolen from of Neil Gaiman’s NEVERWHERE), carnivorous tooth-faeries, a forest elemental (similar to PRINCESS MONONOKE) that stalks the ruined streets, a kung fu Elf, mechanical toy soldiers, and spinning-flipping-twirling fight scenes that make this movie seem like a pedantic video game. This visual feast contains empty calories, beneath this shiny veneer lurks a monster-mash of body parts ripped from the corpses of lesser films and jumbled together in a confusing and pedestrian mess. The film is just too busy with superficial effects that numb the brain, inane and embarrassing dialogue, and a plot that seems written by a fifteen-year-old Dungeons and Dragons freak. The soundtrack’s aural assault is a vibrato-knife that cuts the cochlea and severs the vestibule creating a narrative vertigo and the head-spinning kinetic editing is practically nausea inducing. The story becomes interesting when it slows down and embraces the characters and allows intimacy, but these moments are too few and become lost amid the turgid compositions. With the exception of Liz and Abe Sapien, the supporting cast is annoying and obtuse; the uninspired humorless personal conflicts fall flat and lifeless. This sequel enhances the negative elements of the first film while diminishing the positive character developments: del Toro forgets to tell us a unique story concerning people we care about. (C-)

Lynn (dwell_ondreams) I liked it. I didn't expect anything great & really just watched it for the effects & comedic value.

I loved Prince Nuada. He was fantastic.

Josh | 5 comments ok, so now i feel stupid. I loved this movie! But then again I have always been a sucker for the dark and strange stuff. I liked the story. I did like the first better, but I loved the fantasy twist of the second. I am also a sucker for mythology and I can see where (historicaly speaking) much of the story line was taken from. For example, the names of the elves were actualy old celtic names. All in all, I think del Toro is amazing. The comics are better though.
And by the way, elves dont always have to be beautiful. Its not like fantasy is set in stone. If it weren't open for interpretation it would be quite a boring genera. And who says that the elves in this movie werent beautiful, just because they werent all LOTR style. They seemed pretty cool to me. I liked the new take.

Matt | 218 comments I too am a fan of Del Toro- I'll cut the HELLBOY franchise some slack when it comes to storyline/plot. I'm really looking for overall atmosphere, art direction, you know the way it looks, and I thought it looked great. I dont really care if it "borrows" from anime (MONOKE) or Gaiman. Additionally, I think Ron Perleman sp? is excellent in the lead role. Oh yeah, Selma Blair rarely handicaps a film either. I think HELLBOY knows what it is and delivers.

Myra | 123 comments I watched Hellboy II last night and enjoyed it. There were times my husband and I laughed out loud (I got a real kick out of Hellboy and Abe singing "Can't Smile without You")!

And I love del Toro. Pan's Labyrinth was wonderful! My daughter is a fan of his and insisted that I see it. Glad she did.

Anna (lilfox) | 465 comments HellBoy has also some humour. And I agree that it doesn't require much thinking.

message 16: by Mawgojzeta (new)

Mawgojzeta I also (a couple or few people above commented) liked the way the elves were visually. I thought they were cool looking, but I also found them to be quite attractive once I took time to acclimate to them. They are not human, so their beauty is different, but I still saw it.

Fun movie to watch.

message 22: by Ivan (new)

Ivan Love 'em both. Can't wait to see Del Toro's "The Hobbit" next year.

message 23: by Bob (new)

Bob (ilovepie) | 4 comments I loved this film, it was so much better then the first. I think that is because Del Toro had more free creativity with it.
