I LOVED it. The writing is hard to get around, but once I realized a majority of the "he"s were Cromwell, it went soooo much smoother. And she's writing a sequel! Yay!

I visited the antiques stores over the weekend with the intentions of looking for teacups and saucers. I never expected to find a copy, (especially an 1898, first edition in perfect condition), of When Knighthood Was In Flower by Edwin Caskoden. I have been searching for this book forever.

I also found the first editions of :

My Lady of Cleves (1946) By Margaret Campbell Barnes

For a more recently published book, I did pickup “The Tudor Chronicles 1485-1603” by Susan Doran at Barnes & Noble. It’s a must have for every Tudor Lover!

I recently purchased Revengerby Rory Clements, the second book in a Tudor mystery series that begins with Martyr. I am extremely behind on my reading and have not read either one of them, but intend to read both eventually.

I'm fairly new to this group, and am trying to go through all the threads in a complete manner this weekend. Since I just bought two books at a thrift store this morning, I'll start here.

1) I've "talked" with Susan a little this week about factual historical history books. I'm looking for the type of easier to read than dry bios. The ones that just flesh out the story not rewrite history. Anyone have a favorite?

2) I love this thread! Since January I've read "The Queen's Governess" by Karen Harper and "Mary, Bloody Mary" by Carolyn Meyer. Book were excellent! I didn't find too many discrepancies.

3) I recently have return to the library two books unfinished. I just can't wrap my mind around some of the out and out fiction. Anyone else feel this way and just don't waste time trying to finish the book? Too many awesome books out there to spend time reading something I don't like.

I think Alison Weir's The Children of Henry VIII and The Life of Elizabeth I are both very readable non-fiction.

In the historical fiction category, I really liked I, Elizabeth.

Thanks, Susanna! I have both of the Alison Weir books you mentioned. Will have to find "I, Elizabeth". I've mentioned in another thread in this group, how watching "The Tudors" really messed with my mind lol! As far as thinking the show was historically correct...nope! But, it's so worth it for the hot guys and for learning a little about the main people of the period. At least as far as names and "job title".

Anne, I'd recommend Leanda de Lisle's The Sisters Who Would Be Queen, a nonfiction book about Lady Jane Grey and her younger sisters. It's very readable and well researched, and it clears away a lot of the fiction about Jane and her family that has become confused with fact.

Hi Susan, I have that on my TBR list (which is actually a composition book!). In January, I read a YA book about Lady Jane. Interesting, gave me a little information. Thanks for the recommendation, keep 'em coming lol!

I sampled Wolf Hall on kindle, found it very hard to read in fact had to keep re reading sentences to make sense of it , so gave up, but yet I love the tv adaptation now showing, amazing.

I've just ordered Conn Iggulden's War of the Roses series: Stormbird and Trinity, historical fiction about the Plantagenets and Tudors.. I believe the third book is due later this year. They are getting excellent reviews so I have high hopes!

I have it too. It's a good read but i didn't like that the author sometimes wrote about events and information as a fact, when in fact we don't know if it happened like this.

Jeri Westerson usually writes medieval noir featuring disgraced knight Crispin Guest. But she took a breather from medieval England to delve into the reign of Bluff King Hal in Roses in the Tempest. This was a wonderful if somewhat unusual love story.

I am almost finished catching up with the Crispin Guest series - one more to read. I've really liked it.

I'm currently reading C.J. Sansom's latest Shardlake mystery - this one is set in the last days of Henry VIII's reign.
