I see that you're reading A Christmas Memory. I saw it on Ivan's list last year, got it from the library, and loved it. I finally found the movie through Blockbuster (the good version that Ivan recommended). I'm also giving the book as a Christmas gift this year. Have fun.
Actually, I cancelled the order because I remember Ivan telling me last year not to get the version with Patty Duke. I can't find the earlier version, which Ivan recommended. I just received the book, though, from Amazon, and it came with an audio CD. Looks like a great Christmas gift for the right family. I bought one for my son.
That book features Celeste Holm reading the story. I have that too. I've never understood why it is that the version of Capote reading the story is not available. However, an abridged broadcast of his reading was played on NPR's "This American Life" a few years back. It's really special.
Here's the full version, Ivan. I'm going to try some of my tools for downloading it.http://sixthcolumn.typepad.com/duckwa...
And here: http://disembedded.wordpress.com/2007...And his nasal voice IS annoying, although you might not agree.
Re: C's reading on NPR not being available commercially--it might not have been released commercially by NPR. I'd rather watch this pirated black-and-white version than nothing at all. I had no idea the TV program was so beloved till I started researching.
There are programs for downloading any audio that goes through your speakers. One is FreeCorder, but I recommend removing it after the download because it contains spyware and a very annoying toolbar.
The web is out there, Ivan, just use your keywords in a major search engine; it's not magic. Heck, I had never touched a computer till I was 50.Please be careful with Freecorder. I'm installing it just for this audio file.
Ivan wrote: "Thank you, thank you, thank you."You owe me one; I'll think of something. Maybe a pound of flesh. :D
OK, here's the one you want:http://www.applian.com/downloads.php Freecorder 4 Toolbar, almost at the bottom.
And the reason I recommend downloading is, of course, that web pages disappear.

Take ten; I'd never miss it :D

Oh, the Christmas tree is up - just lovely. Starting to feel like Christmas. A new Christmas tradition is to watch a DVD of Rick Steve's "European Christmas" - a truly wonderful and inspiring look at how the holiday is celebrated in different places.

enjoy!
