Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Wow - thanks Debbie (and random generator :)!!

I'll get in and sort out my books this morning and post while most of the northern hemisphere is asleep.

message 1456: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Just having some additional thoughts on my list... I'll post it as soon as I have it sorted :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Congratulations! (I like your thanks to the random generator. Made me chuckle.)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Oakey-dokey - Jim's given me the all clear to steal his idea...

Photojim wrote: "At first I was going to change things up a bit and not go by the rules. I was going to just list genres and whomever won, I would go to your book lists, pick a book in the genre of your choice that you haven't read that I think you would like, and send you that. It would be like a Pick It For Me/Pay It Forward amalgamation. But I didn't know how that would go over. Maybe with some positive feedback I'll do that with my next win. ..."

How about we go with Jim's idea for this round/thread? I'm keen to give this a trial and I think a few others were interested as well. It would break up the two 'Pay-It-Forwards' - as Jim suggests: maybe more Pick It For Me :)

Is everyone in?
Isn't this a great idea!?

My suggested categories of which I have some idea:

Paranormal Romance

Historical Romance

Fantasy

Sci-fi
(i'm splitting up Jim's speculative category :)

Young Adult

Mild PNR Suspense (think psychic stuff)

Erotica (ebook)

M/M romance (ebook)

So basically, just select a category and post it in this thread, then I get to look through your 'wishlist' to select a book I would recommend you read.

If you win, I'll contact you with my selection before I purchase to make sure you don't have it already. (IF you can assure me that your 'wishlist' definitely doesn't have any books you already own on it, I'm happy to make the book a surprise in the mail!! ;)

I'll send anywhere in the world.
I'll draw the winner on AEST Wednesday afternoon, which is sometime on Wednesday morning for most of you :)

If you win - make sure you have something for me to choose in your preferred category! ;)

**************

Now - if ppl are uncomfortable about this arrangement, I also have tucked away the NORMAL book list raffle (carefully compiled until I remembered Jim's excellent suggestion) ...

So please let me know your thoughts, either way. I can delay the raffle and revert to the normal format if we have a tentative response. :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments I think it is a fantastic idea! (of course I would)

Put me down for the Erotica e-book. (besides, it would save you some shipping)

message 1460: by Penney (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Yes! A little shake up. I'm just delving into M/M Romance, so put me down for that please. Thanks Jane :)

Plus - I think you get a much wider choice of books for erotica and M/M - a lot don't get published in paper - and they cost the earth when they are!...

message 1463: by Emily (new)

Emily | 199 comments I am in for paranormal romance. This sounds like a great idea.

message 1464: by Fran, Moderator (last edited Nov 13, 2011 05:33PM) (new)

NocturnalRavings(Jodie) (mistrissmoon) | 270 comments Congrats Penny! I'm in for either young adult or PNR! Surprise me! :D

message 1468: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Nov 13, 2011 10:28PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments I think we are now safely out of the 'tentative approval' and into a 'safely accepted' idea :)

I'll definitely draw this raffle in roughly 48 hours.

message 1469: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Great idea, guys! I'll try for Sci-Fi (I don't know what's inside my bookshelf!)

message 1470: by AlbertaJenn (new)

message 1472: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments what a fun idea guys, Ok - I am in for (I just don't know) Your choice Jane - don't want you to have to buy anything, but I will let you pick it (no matter what it is)

message 1473: by Yz the Whyz, Moderator (new)

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Great twist on our Pay-It-Forward concept, Photojim and Jane.

I was wondering if you guys want to have a separate thread for this type of book sharing. Whoever wins Jane's raffle, if that person is interested in doing the same thing, can start a new thread. Also will just have a volunteer continue this thread with the regular book sharing.

Feedback?

How about we just rename this thread and continue on here? One Pay-It-Forward thread and one Pick-It-For-Me (and buy) thread - with alternated timing. As I recall, we started the second thread 'cos it was taking too long to turn around with the raffles... (Immediate gratification wasn't fast enough :) This altered style would still deliver the 'excitement'.

Don't worry about the cost - it is significantly cheaper for me to buy a book than it is for me to mail a book I already own! The US has introduced (a couple of months ago) an import tax on parcels - $9/parcel - add Aus postage, and I can't send anything into the US for less than about $18. Way cheaper for me to buy at Book Depository or AllRomance (ebooks) and send direct :)

...I just like being a part of this fun...

Hey Yz - do you want to join in? (C'mon - you know you want to!)

message 1477: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments I like that idea Jane. Personally, I think 2 threads sounds like the right amount. 1 for traditional raffling of paper copies and 1 for ebook buying.

message 1478: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments wow, great reason to do it that way.
Thanks :}

message 1479: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments This raffle will close in approximately 5 hours. Roll up! roll up!! Get your pick in now!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Pick me! Pick me! Quick, let me create a second account so I can enter again. Or better yet, when you set up the randomizer, just have it pick a number between 1 and 1. Works for me. ;-)

message 1481: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments LOL!! Random Terry joins the group as Jim's secret alias... And I'm now going to have to see what Randomizer does when he's only give one choice! (That won't be the official raffle result - rest assured everyone else :)

message 1482: by Emily (new)

Emily | 199 comments Jane... just in case i get picked I updated all of my to-reads to reflect if I own them. :)

message 1483: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Nov 15, 2011 07:27PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hehehe - thanks Emily - so this means I can surprise you?!

message 1484: by Emily (new)

Emily | 199 comments Yep you can surprise me

message 1485: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Jane, by the way - I sent your book out today. You weren't kidding about the postage. Not quite as high as for you shipping out, but more than I expected. Hope it gets there soon :)

Yeah - international postage is a bummer... Mind you, its expensive within Aus as well. I send books to my god-children and those charges are pretty bad as well.

Thanks for the heads up Debbie - I'll watch the mailbox in a week or so :)

I'll be sticky-beaking in your wishlist sometime over the next day or so! And my selection will be a complete surprise - both book and category :) Make sure you are all up-to-date on your books... *so much fun*

***********

Sorry Jim :( ...And I tried to enter Min 1 and Max 1 - my randomiser wouldn't play! Kept changing the Max to 2...

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments What?! I was supposed to win! It's rigged I say! Rigged! ;-)

Oh well, you can't win if you don't play. Congrats Fran.

message 1490: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Yay!!! I am so excited! Thanks so much Jane! My wish-list shelf is up to date- I can't wait to see what you've chosen for me :)

Jim, you will just have to enter my raffle- maybe that will be your lucky one :)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments OK Fran. I'll have a look when I get back from work tonight. And maybe this one I'll win. My wife says I am an optimist so let's hope for a good outcome.

message 1492: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments OK, I will do this raffle just as Jane has- Please keep your wishlist up-to-date and I will choose a title from it if you win. I will make sure you want it or if you would like to be surprised just let me know. I have "gifted" often from Amazon so if you have a Kindle or Kindle app that's how I'll do it. If not, I will send you an ebook from another site. If I happen to have the print copy of your choice I can send that as an option. I will ship anywhere.

I will choose the winner on Friday evening 11/18 (about 5 p.m. EST).

Categories to choose from-

Paranormal Romance

Historical Romance

Fantasy

Sci-fi

Young Adult

Mild PNR Suspense (think psychic stuff)
