Spudsie | 44 comments Greetings all! I'm a newbie to GR and an even newer newbie to this group!

I'm still trying to find my way around the site. There's just sooooo much here and soooo many books to distract me! Yowza! :-)

Who am I? (Other than an oddball with a potato nickname.) Well that's a darned good question. I'm a 37 year old potato with a reading addictions.

Hi my name's Spudsie. (Hi Spuds!) And I have a reading addiction. And an addiction to owning books. Mr. Spuds and I bought a house with an extra bedroom so I could turn it into a library. And there's still not enough room for all of my books! (Not all are listed on GR yet...that'll take me a while.)

Mr. Spuds and I have no children....just 2 red eared sliders (turtles for those who aren't familiar). Hobbies include gardening, traveling, fine dining, and coin collecting.

Obsessions include books and trying to find time to write my thoughts after reading them.

Favorite office "toy". Any guesses?
(Pause)
Yup...that's right.... a Mr. Potato Head dressed as Darth Vader....which I believe Hasbro calls Darth Tater...but I call lovingly Darth "Spuds" (Giggle)

Seriously, I'm am so psyched to stumble upon this group. I thought I was one of 2 people in the universe obsessed with buying more and more books. How delightful to find I'm not nearly alone as I thought I was!

And I'm really eager to figure out how the discussion boards work. (Is it me or do they seem to sort weirdly??) Mr. Spuds isn't much of a reader....so I'm always looking for people to bounce ideas and reactions off of after finishing a book.

So that's this potato in a nutshell.
:-)

Bluedaizy | 135 comments Hey Mz Spudsie! Welcome! Seems to me you got the discussion board down pat. :)

message 3: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Hi there, welcome aboard!!

So not enough room for all your books, oh oh!! I will predict that after joining this group your problem will get even bigger, I know mine has!! Be prepared to go on book buying sprees like never before :-)

How are you liking Eat, Pray, Love? It's my pick for this month's books but it's a bit behind in the voting stakes at this stage :(

message 4: by Bluedaizy (new)

Bluedaizy | 135 comments Hey Mandy! I'll vote for your shameless plug! But if I don't like it, it'll be POW straight to the moon! with the book. :)

message 5: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Thanks!! I've heard mixed reviews so I'm not sure what it'll be like so I'll apologise now if by some small chance it gets through and you don't like it - I'd feel sorry for the little book all the way on the moon!

message 6: by Bluedaizy (new)

Bluedaizy | 135 comments oh, no, no apologies are necessary. If the going gets tough, I'll just break out the margaritas, again! :)

message 7: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Sounds like a plan ;-)

Shannon | 79 comments Hi Spudsie!

I too recently joined the group and look forward to expanding my book collection! I love to own my books as well, I don't know what it is, just love to see the piles grow :)

message 9: by Robin (new)

Robin Hi All
Thanks Spudsie for a great thread from a newbie. I'm a newbie to this book group. I love books, and one day dream of a library too. When I find hard back versions of my favorites I do buy them for my future library. But for now I move too much and man, do books suck to move. So I walk to my local library 3 blocks away, love my little library.
So when I find a book I love, I really want to talk about it. So I look forward to meeting some new people and reading some great books.
Cheers!

message 10: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Pleased to meet you, Robin. Hope you enjoy our club here, it's the best on Goodreads by far!!

message 11: by Robin (new)

Robin It certainly didn't take me long to figure that out. I loved all the comments about #500 and the spam person. I was bummed to be on the west coast and I had to wait to get home to do some real checking out of the site!!

message 12: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Oh my Spudsie, that's an interesting intro. Welcome to our little part of the world, which appears to be growing and growing as will your wish lists for books I'm sure.

Spudsie and Robin- Welcome!

message 14: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Hi Robin, you're puppy is adoreable!

message 15: by Robin (new)

Robin Hi Sherry
Thanks. She will be a year old next month. She can still be a naughty girl and is hard to potty train, but still the cutest thing ever.
Funny thing about being a newbie... I thought I was all caught up on posts for this site (my eyes actually hurt) and then I clicked on the button that says unread and found out, I'm not even close. So if I get laid off next Tuesday, I guess that my new job will be this group of book lovers!! HAHAHA!
Well since I'm no where near the end of the posts, I'm giving in and calling it a night.
Cheers!

Charity (charityross) Welcome Spudsie! Funnily enough, we have the Darth Tater...our son calls it 'Darth Tato'. My husband loves Star Wars, so it was a must-have. He also wants to get our sons the Transformers one ('Optimash Prime') and the Spiderman one ('Spider Spud'). Being Ohio State superfans, we also have the Mr. Potato Head dressed like a Buckeye football player...it has two different faces, one with the black paint under the eyes, and one angry 'game face' that our son calls the 'Beat Michigan face'....we start 'em young. :-)

Welcome Robin! Can't wait to hear about your dream library...although you might be adding a few wings to it after you spend some time in this group. Your to-read list will be out of control!!

Glad you both found our group! You'll always be amazed by how many people share your obsessions and you'll start to wish you could meet up with them in real life.

The Book Whisperer (aka Boof) Hi Spudsie and Robin

Welcome! You are certainly in the right place. Spudsie, there are a few of us on here who's husbands don't share our book addictions (I know; what's wrong with them?) so bounce away with your ideas and reactions on here instead like me.

message 20: by Kataklicik (new)

Kataklicik | 87 comments I used to have a room dedicated to my books, then we got onto the internet and added the pc, then we added a bed so that when guests come they'd have a place to sleepover, then I had kids, and that was the end of my little study!

Hi Spudsie! Hi Robin!

message 21: by Spudsie (new)

Spudsie | 44 comments Wow! What a warm welcome from everyone!!

Mandy- Loving EPL! I'll toss my vote for it to be the next book. I've written a partial "review" already. (My reviews tend to be more about my thoughts or reaction to the book and not a formal review. So it's kinda odd.)

Leppaluoto- Nope....I didn't purchase a case of Darth Spuds....but I probably would have if I'd known they were for sale. :-)

Charity- A fellow Buckeye?!?!?! How cool!! I think I'm gonna need to see pics of the Buckeye Spud.

Thanks again for everyone's warm welcome.

Damn, work is getting in the way of my ability to welcome everyone in a timely fashion! Shoot!

Hi Spudsie and Robin.. haahaa. together you sound like a superhero team... Up Up and Away....

I cant tell you how glad I am that you found our little safehaven... We all suffer from the same book obsessions and love to hear your quirky little OCD's... share share share. You will never be made fun of, or laughed at... and you will never lack a captive audience....

message 23: by Siobian (new)

Siobian Hi Spudsie! I just joined too and just wanted to say hello! My husband isn't much of a reader either and doesn't quite understand my inability to walk out of a bookstore empty handed. I'm working on getting him to read more. (By the way, he likes vampire books and anything with blood and gore if anyone has any good suggestions!) Anyway, welcome and I look forward to getting to know you!

message 24: by Val (new)

Val Nichols | 159 comments Greetings, Spudsie...another Newbie here and another one with a husband that reads very little. He also just rolls his eyes at me whenever I linger "too long" in a bookstore. HA! I'm sorry, but there's no such thing as "too long" in a bookstore.

Siobian, my husband also likes the blood and gore books (when he reads) so I'll have to check with him as to which were his favorites and get back to you.

I may have to get off this site soon, though...I'm almost done with Bucking the Sun and I can't wait to see how it ends (but I'm going to HATE when it ends because that means I have to give it back to the library. *sigh*).

message 25: by Charity (last edited Jul 25, 2008 10:17PM) (new)

Charity (charityross) I'll have to post a pic, Spudsie...so happy to find another Buckeye...and one in Columbus, no less! :-)

message 26: by Gail (new)

Gail | 1 comments I just joined this site and am trying to find my way. I love to read, mysteries are my favorite. Hope to get some good suggestions of books in other genres. Best, Bubbe Gittel aka Gail

message 27: by Siobian (new)

Siobian Leppaluoto, Hi! Yes, I have heard about this amazing book sale you were at...How was it? I'm so jealous, we hardly ever have great book sales here in GA. Sometimes my local library will do a church cookbook sale. Um...that's about it.
