Robert Kratky (bolorkay) | 54 comments Hello,
Perhaps someone in this group can point me in the right direction...
I'm attempting to set up a complete "Dark Tower" set for a family member who expressed a desire to read this series for the first time.
Not looking for the first ed. Grant editions (not unless I want to sell the house, first!) just a nice, hardcover set (if possible) of "later" editions.
Any suggestions? (I've tried e-bay with only marginal succuess.)

Thank You,

Bob

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hi Bob, and welcome to the group. I'm no expert on hardcovers (I dislike them due to bulk, so generally go for paperback editions), however I can tell you that you'll be really hard pressed to find a matching set of all of the Dark Tower series.

You will probably be able to find matching editions of the first four books, and matching editions of the last three books, but not of all seven, since there was a publisher change mid-way through the series.

I just did a quick search, and the hardcover boxed sets (even of just three books) are pretty expensive, especially when compared to the same in paperback. =\ You may be better off purchasing them individually although my guess is that they will still be exponentially more expensive.

A compromise would be to do the trade paperback editions, which have full color illustrations, but are a fraction of the price of the hardcovers.

Good luck. :)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 612 comments I started with the trade PB editions myself. The bigger size was nice, the illustrations were the exact same as the hardcovers, but without the bulk, they were much easier to lug to and from school. Hardcovers are probably going to be pretty expensive, especially if purchased new from Borders or somewhere like that. Good luck with your search!

Borders had a whole box set that was significantly cheaper than buying all of them separate. Also, if you look at used book stores, you may get lucky!

Are you sure that it was the entire series? Because, to my knowledge, no publisher owns the rights to all 7 books. I could be wrong, but I know that the last 3 books were published under a completely different publisher and I've only ever seen sets of 1-3 or 1-4... never all 7 in one set.

I agree about the used bookstore suggestion though. I usually find a ton of King books there. :)

Ahh, I see. Yeah, you can find used books that people are selling as a set, but I would be very surprised to find Borders selling a boxed set of all 7 books. :)

There was one at the borders by my house. However, I could not find it online. But, it could have definitely been only 1-4 or so. I go pretty often, so I'll find out shortly.
