Tisha true...i have been refreshing the group page every half hour here at my desk. I think this is the best strategy while at work!

I'm terrified that i will barely be able to log on in the next couple days... there will be 100's of posts!

I hate everyone who has a desk job! I work as a supervisor in a distribution center and we dont even get CHAIRS to sit on.... Our computers are locked, so we can only access the companys portal, nothing else. It Blows! So this weekend --tomorrow, sat, sun -- is going suck for me... Monday will be spent just catching up!!!

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

Lorena, you're so right!..haha. If I miss a day of posts, I feel hopelessly behind.

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd be much better off if I couldn't access the internet from work!!!

message 56: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I don't understand how you stay on top Lori!

message 57: by Katie (new)

Katie (hockeygoddess) | 257 comments I'm with you, Lori...I spend all day at work on my feet & the only thing our computers do is update our sales numbers:( Add-in commute time and you've got the reason I'm up until ungodly hours of the morning...I'm trying to get caught up! Plus all the damn thunderstorms we've been having this week has caused a lot of power outages & non-safe computing time! No fair! *LOL*

message 58: by [deleted user] (new)

We're getting nailed up here today with rain. My wife just told me there were tornado warnings!

message 59: by Stacie (new)

Stacie I got up at 6am this morning to check goodreads and then get a little reading in before waking up my daughter - no such luck on the reading and I don't think I got through all the posts! I am taking a little break from thesis writing and can't believe the amount of posts! And there I go, adding another one!

message 60: by Tisha (new)

Tisha Can we change the subject line to

"I Know I should be WORKING but..."

wow, I am particularly bad today. I think its because i'm off tomorrow, so its like my friday.

message 61: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
ok, two hours later and I am all caught up on the posts. PHEW!
And i was even on this morning... I cant go to work this weekend, there is no way I will be able to leave this site. Not for one minute!

And to think, I havent even sat down to read yet.... poor poor book, sitting all alone and forgotten on the couch...

message 62: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Do you hear it calling?

message 63: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Right now, I think its just rustling its pages. Its getting aggitated.... hee hee

message 64: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Poor,poor book!

message 65: by Stacie (new)

Stacie That is the worst thing Lori. I started Book of Lost Things and am really liking it. But, with all these posts to read I have no time to read it! I think the wolves were actually howling out of the pages at me this morning!

message 66: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments Stacie... I hear you, I'm also reading it, and the wolves are howling at me too!

message 67: by Dianne (new)

Dianne Ascroft | 16 comments I go stir crazy at work if the internet is down and I can't get into Goodreads to check posts. The only problem is there's a computer glitch with the computer I'm usually on and I can't reply to posts - so when I get a chance to get on another computer (like now) I go mad posting! I do spend half an hour every morning before I start work reading (my husband starts earlier than me and drops me off at work). That's about the only time I can depend on for reading during the day.

I wish I could check goodreads at work. I have a couple times but are internet is babysat. I come home and sit online for too long! But I guess we all have habits. I have OCD really bad! Thanks to GR I am even worse! Ha ha!

message 69: by Christine (new)

Christine (airportsox) | 37 comments Emilee, I feel your pain. Our internet usage is monitered and presented in the monthly managers meetings. So I can only check the GR posts at lunch and at home. :o( It's sooo hard to keep up!

message 70: by Emma (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:15AM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Okay, now I'm debating with myself if I should go grab Breaking Dawn and read. But what if you guys start talking about something really interesting? Say, politics or even *gasp* YA! Grrr, curse my addiction!

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

Christine: I am glad we have each other! The worst I don't want to get off when I do get on at home.

message 72: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 76 comments I know I should be reading but, I'm pregnant and my mind won't work. Any help for that?

message 73: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
ahh. a nice relacxing bubble bath, with the water so hot its borderline scalding... that usually cleared my mind and helped me get lost in a book....

Or you could air out all your mental clutter here with us :)

message 74: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
BTW, is this your first pregnancy, if you dont mind my asking?

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Santina, If it's hot where you are at a luke warm bath, a good book and a bowl of ice cream!

I lived in Las Vegas with two of my pregnancies, it worked wonders for the horrible summer heat!

message 76: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 76 comments No Lori, I have a 7 year old daughter. I don't remember being this unfocsed and forgetful with her though...lol.

Thanks guys, I'll try soaking in a tub, see if that helps.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

By the way, congrats Santina! Newborns are great!

message 78: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 76 comments Thanks Jeremy, yeah I can't wait to hold one again.

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd have more except for the following:

1) My wife is all set with 4!
2) Can't afford any more.
3) Am kind of cool with entering the diaperless stage...but not quite there yet.

message 80: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
ahhh. the diaperless stage is a huge reason for celebration!!! I was always so happy when we were able to stop buying them!!! No more bulky diaper bag and extra money.. its a win win!

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

You are so right! Pampers and formula were a huge dent to our small budget...haha.

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

Huge dent to the budget and then I think about that National Geographic or History channel show that I've yet to see about the footprint we leave...

Charity (charityross) BIRTH ORDER OF CHILDREN

Pregnancy:
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

Preparing for the Birth:
1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your eighth month

The Layette:
1st baby: You pre-wash newborn's clothes, color-coordinate them, and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries:
1st baby: At the first sign of distress--a whimper, a frown--you pick up the baby.
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your three-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing

Pacifier:
1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until you can go home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with some juice from the baby's bottle.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.

Diapering:
1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every two to three hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.

Activities:
1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

Going Out:
1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home five times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home:
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Swallowing Coins (a favorite):
1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the hospital and demand x-rays.
2nd child: When second child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for the coin to pass.
3rd child: When third child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

Great great great, Charity..haha. I'm printing this out for my wife.

message 85: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments Charity, that had me cracking up! I don't even have kids but I will be reading that to my boyfriend when I get home today.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Funny, funny stuff!

message 87: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
I love it. I especially love the "call only if you see blood" part! I only have two, but that about sums it up!! haa haa

message 88: by [deleted user] (new)

Two is enough to understand, Lori...lol

message 89: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments Funny. I don't have children either, but I appreciated that very much.

message 90: by Tisha (new)

Tisha hilarious. I passed it on to my friends. So sad that I am the third born in my family!

message 91: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) I'm the oldest of four kids in my family and I always thought the younger ones got away with waaaaay more than I ever did. I always claimed that I just 'broke my parents in'.

My dad always says, "We followed the first one around with a safety net. We let the fourth juggle knives."

Sounds about right.

message 92: by Val (new)

Val Nichols | 159 comments I was also the third child, and yes, I got away with so much! My sister (the middle one) still resents it. :0)

I have two girls of my own, and I must have known I would only have two, as I treated my first one with kid gloves, then went straight to thinking "third child" with my second. Poor thing. She's lucky we have pictures of her.

message 93: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Charity that was so funny!I had to post it in the Modern Mommies group. The thing is,it's pretty much true.Erma Bombeck did something similar. The first baby, you sterilize everything,by the third, they can eat dirt and you don't care. LOL

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

Dirt's good for the child..builds up immunity...lol..j/k

message 95: by Stacie (new)

Stacie I have always called is Passive Immunization. I grew up pulling carrots out of a garden and eating them, as did most of my family and we are all pretty healthy.

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

Charity that is so funny!

I was also the oldest of 4 kids and the younger ones did get away with everything.

message 97: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Stacie,Passive Immunization what a great way to put it.

message 98: by Santina (new)

Santina (littlesaintina) | 76 comments LOL...well there is something to be said about that. Studies have shown kids have more allergies becuase we're too clean. Maybe dirt isn't so bad...haha.

message 99: by Mandy (new)

Mandy I completely agree, dirt isn't bad, especially when you're a kid. This day and age is really a scare campaign kind of thing, you better buy this to keep the kids clean, you better buy this to lose weight, you better buy this and this and this. I really dislike it.

message 100: by [deleted user] (new)

Dirt isn't that bad at all. I must agree. we need germs to get some immunity.
