Diane ~Firefly~ | 97 comments 526. Pretty much if it's on my To-Read shelf here, then I own it.

message 56: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookaddict_92) | 16 comments I feel like I'm the only person without kindle.

I just love seeing my books in front of me.. weird, I know.

I have a total of 21.. and I'm waiting for six more.

I have read 3 out of the 21.

I don't have a Kindle. I much prefer a paperback book.

message 59: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (bookaddict_92) | 16 comments I'd just prefer a book in general. I know being me, I'd loose focus with a kindle, or whatever other types they have.

I like seeing my books on the bookshelves.
I think it's mostly my fascination with book covers.

message 60: by Sondrae (new)

Sondrae Bennett | 32 comments I used to be really bad. I'd go to Borders and buy three books and then only finish one before going back for more. I don't know why I did this, I just did. I've been a lot better since getting my kindle though. I only buy books if I'm going to start them immediately.

I think I'm down to 20ish books sitting around. I gave a bunch away when I moved last year.

message 61: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Archer (cjarcher) | 49 comments I have about 20 but now that I've got a Sony ereader I expect that to go up as I tend to buy ebooks more on impulse than I do paper books.

message 62: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 117 comments I don't have an exact figure but a few hundred. Between my kindle and the paper books I haven't read, I'm overwhelmed. LOL! But at least in a good way.

message 63: by Nessa (new)

Nessa I have tons that I have and haven't read yet. I always had a few books lying around that I would buy as part of a series or an author I really liked, but it never got out of hand...until my boyfriend bought me my e-reader. Now I am completely addicted to getting e-books and I am getting them way faster than I can read them. It's just too easy to sit at the computer, and ...voila!...you have your books.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 184 comments I have no clue how many I have in paper still unread. Probably 25-50. I had 43 pages in my table of contents on my Kindle the other day and I went through and backed them up onto my computer and removed most of them. Now I have about 6 pages in the table of contents. Mostly challenge books for the year. I have been trying to alternate between paper and Kindle a bit so I read some of both. I will put more onto my Kindle when I have read what is on there. It was too hard to find anything. I have a Kindle 1st generation so I don't have collections to organize with.

message 65: by jD (new)

jD (jd_4everbooked) | 152 comments Squirrel is a good analogy. I actually am down to one actual book -- Shadowfever. My Kindle and ebooks on my laptop is another story. I refuse to count them. I know I will become depressed. I only have 4 library books right now but have read 3 of those without having to renew so I am patting myself on the back, squirrel or no.

message 66: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) My TBR category on my Kindle has around 275, then I have a "read me next" category that has over 70 (yeah, I know, lol), so I guess that's 350-ish? I grab a lot of freebies from Amazon, but then I also can't resist shiny-new. I'm trying to be better about buying books and more methodical about actually reading them.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) | 8 comments I have not ever counted but I know I have a LOT, the spreedsheet idea that I read somewhere above is a very good idea..lol I do know its over two hundred these books are every where..lol

Cheryl (psyyourmind) | 1 comments Harper wrote: "Don't feel bad. I own 669 books (I have a spreadsheet, lol) and I think I've read maybe a little over half of them, which means my number is probably around 300."

Glad to know I'm not the only one how has a spreadsheet with all their books on it :)

message 69: by Lisa M (new)

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 248 comments Thanks to Goodreads, I've whittled my physical TBR pile down to just 11 books, and I don't even have any TBR's on my Kindle. Whenever I read about a book that I want to read I put it (or the first book in the series) on my Goodreads to-read list or my fictfact series list. That way I don't buy the books until I'm about ready to read them, yet I don't forget about them. Of course, it helps that I don't browse at brick & mortar book stores. But Amazon LOVES me! ;)

message 70: by ☻Nikki☻ (new)

☻Nikki☻ (nikkic1998) I have 123 books on my Kindle that still haven't been read. I have probably 30 or so paperback books that's sitting around ready to be read also. I still keep getting books from the library or swapping books on the internet too so it seems I never whittle it down. ::sigh::

That's why I'm so proud that I haven't bought any this year so far. I have too many to read now that I own. LOL

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 184 comments I completely forgot about my netgalleys... LOL. I have some on there and 2 months or less to read them! I wish that they would work on my Kindle but only 2 of them had the Kindle button when I downloaded them. I am thinking I may want another e-reader that works better with netgalley... I have a problem I know!

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) C.J. wrote: "I have about 20 but now that I've got a Sony ereader I expect that to go up as I tend to buy ebooks more on impulse than I do paper books."

Exactly the sane here C.J. I have 110 paperbacks, but that number hasn't changed a lot after I bought my ereader 1,5 month ago:(

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Awesomevegan wrote: ". I am thinking I may want another e-reader that works better with netgalley."

I have a Sony 650 and it works just fine with Netgalley Awesomevegan. I guess other readers do too.

message 75: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Dillon (jessica_dillon89) I have of about 550 books and still have yet to read about 150 of them. I cannot help it!! Everytime I see a book in the store that I like... I buy it. I sometimes even buy the whole collection without reading the first book!! But the last few months, we haven't had alot of money... And I've read about 30 of my massive "HAVE NOT READ" pile and havent bought new ones. It works out well and I know in the future I will definately get around to reading them all!! This year has so many amazing sequels coming out from all my favourite authors - so I know I will never conquer reading all of them before buying new ones :P Everyone shouldn't feel guilty. If you look after your books - they will last a lifetime and will always be there when we feel like reading!! :)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) | 8 comments See its times like that when a huge TBR pile comes in handy!

message 77: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments Right now I have a pile of around 90 paperbacks to read and a few hundred ebooks on my kindle. I didn't read too many last year my reading went from 20-40 a month down to 134 for the year and I kept stockpiling! This year I have between 4-8 new releases a month on pre-order, I tend to check ebay and car boot sales etc for older books and I buy between 6-10 kindle books a week. I like to try the first book in a series and if I like it I will often purchase the rest before reading more (currently I'm reading Lara Adrian after finishing Lynsay Sands & Kerrelyn Sparks- Lynn Viehl is next in the plan). I also have an external hard drive with all my non-kindle ebooks that I purchased for my netbook and that has about 1000, including free novella's from publishers and author's websites... My hubby keeps threatening to burn them! I'm just glad he doesn't know about one-click buying on the kindle! He congratulated me the other day as he had only seen 4 parcels arrive from Amazon! He offered to take me shopping.... ;)

ൠSinful (sinful) | 118 comments Y'all are making me feel SOOOO much better!!! I had just committed to not buying another book until I read everything I want to read on my kindle that I haven't gotten to.

I have 13 I really want to read. Like the last Psy Changling and LOU books.

I have 5 books that I like the authors and I am not too sure about

I have 3 that I started and didn't finish but often if I plug away I'd like it

And 2 by authors I don't know that were free and may be good

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) | 8 comments I wish I could just commit to not buying anything but I am a barnesnnoble.com addict (not a huge fan of amazon) and I just can't help myself whether its actual books or ebooks..LOL I have six paperbacks coming to me right now. I get books from publishers, authors and I just can't say NO. :)

message 80: by Pam G (new)

Pam G (pgarey) Wow, this thread is making me feel a whole lot better about this TBR book addiction I seem to have. I have around 100 or so DTBs, maybe up to 150 TBRs on my Kindle (most are freebies), and maybe 25 audiobooks I haven't listened to yet. I just can't pass up a good deal, between the Audible.com sales, the free Kindle books and the coupons for Half Price Books, I am pretty sure I have enough to last a couple of years, at least! Which is okay by me.

Thank you! It appears that all or almost all of the Sonys work with Netgalley. I was thinking about trying to find an older model on ebay. I wouldn't want to spend a lot. I guess I will see. The Nook, NookCOLOR, the Kobo and some others are also on the list I found through the NetGalley FAQ. I would want e-ink not LCD/Backlit. I can't believe I am considering getting another reader to read FREE books on... that's when you know you have a problem! LOL

Mrs.Vishous-Kattalakis-Belikov :::Para Itch Reviews::: (vanesmate) I have 30 books that I haven't read yet!

message 83: by Laraine (new)

Laraine (lala26) | 32 comments I have like four to five books that I own and not yet read. If I gave in to the temptation to buy every book that interests me every time I shop, I'd have hundreds too! I think that would really stress me out and push me to read faster lol. :p

message 84: by McKenzie (new)

McKenzie | 57 comments None of you should feel bad for having a big backlog. :) It's pretty nice to have a whole bunch of stuff to read and know you will never run out. I'll run to the store and buy more even though I have a pile waiting to be read.

Right now my list says I have 17 to read. I have more than that, that I have not cataloged yet. I want on a bit of a spending spree lately and have a whole bunch. And I'm thinking about going to Borders on Friday since they have a big sale in the stores they are closing.

Lauren⁷ 💜 (lrc123) | 115 comments Not counting library books, which i have 28 of that i need to read. I think i have around 40 books that i own that i need to read. And I'm so bad, because i tell myself i won't buy any more books, but then i see books on sale....... And i can't help myself. I don't have an eReader, so no eBooks to read. I don't have a credit card, so i can't buy any off Amazon or Books-A-Million. I do wish we had a Borders here, i know that they're having a fantastic sale. I just wish it wasn't because Borders is filing for Chapter 11.

message 86: by Jade (new)

Jade | 1 comments It's so nice to know I'm not the only one with a huge TBR pile! I always seem to be adding more than I read - really don't know how that happens!! I currently have 344 books that I own and need to read.

message 87: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 39 comments I don't even want to count how many books are currently on my shelf that I have not read...its depressing!!! I love reading, but life just keeps happening and its difficult to find time to just sit an read.

message 88: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (mskat) | 11 comments I'd say between 30 - 40. I tend to buy a bunch of books at a time to work my way through. That doesn't count books that are unread that I've bought for my husband (I have this weird obsession with having to be first to read a book. If he reads it first I won't read it!).

message 89: by Lori (last edited Mar 04, 2011 09:26AM) (new)

Lori | 5 comments I haven't actually counted them (then I might have to admit I have a 'problem') but would guess 100-150 is a fairly accurate estimate. I currently have 20 library books checked out, but since I didn't buy them, they are not part of the problem. I feel better that I seem about average among this group!

I laugh when I hear about others who love to re-read despite the unread books that have been sitting around for years/months/weeks. That is me too - sometimes a book just calls out to be re-read!

I've thought about a e-reader, but keep re-imagining that old Twilight Zone episode (where Burgess Meredith has his glasses broken right when he has the chance to do all the reading he wants) I fear losing all those books on the e-reader because of no way to re-charge the battery. Now that would be horrific!

Edited to add: Did more of a count and looks like I underestimated by about 100 - so I'm closer to 250 than 150! Now they are not ALL paranormals, but the majority are definitely that and sci-fi/fantasy with some mysteries thrown in. I never had this large a TBR pile when I read mostly mysteries and novels. I wonder, is it because this genre encourages that sort of obsession, do I not 'trust' my library to experiment in this area, or do I just have more disposable income now than I had in the past. Any thoughts?

Huntressofdarkness | 3 comments i have 4 i still have to read. i cant be bothered counting all my books in my bookcase, all i know is that it is a large bookcase that is overflowing

message 91: by Susan (new)

it's tough !! I want to read them all but...
in this lifetime ?? ( I'm already member of AARP !)
ROFL

message 92: by Nessa (new)

Nessa My big problem is that each time I get a decent size dent in my TBR pile, I find a new author or series that I want to try, end up loving it, and have to go get the entire series or works by that author. Anyone else have this problem? I am also completely addicted to the free e-books (they are free...why not?) and have a friend that reads a lot of the same books as I do, so she will give me a SD card packed full of new books for me to try. I just can't keep up! Starting to think I need some serious help for my book buying addiction, lol. My boyfriend is starting to think so, lol

message 93: by Kim (new)
