Could I use this task to look at my TBR-Own Shelf exclusively?

How should I go about this task? Estimate which has been there the longest? I know the last time I acquired books so the "New" part isn't difficult, there's just no "evidence" here on GR.

I didn't think I had any listed on my TBR shelf here on GR (don't add books until I start them), but I just checked and I do have a few. The oldest one on the list is one I own so I guess that makes it easy enough. :)

*confused*!!!

I would say go with your most recent 11 when you're ready to start the task.

Kathryn, by all means, go with what's available to you.

Great! Thanks so much. I looked and literally had none of the ones in the ten on either side. I really like this task.

Sounds good to me! Thanks for your help

I'm hoping the answer is yes to this because I have not added any of my books that are new for this challenge because of this. I wonder if it should actually be required because otherwise I could have just added any book I wanted to read and chosen it;)

Yes, you can use the 11 most recently added before the challenge.

Deedee,
The original intent of the task was to encourage you to read something new-to-you, rather than something you've had on a physical shelf for a while but have just added to GR. The book I picked for this task is one of the newest ones on my TBR-owned shelf, as opposed to my general TBR shelf. I hope this helps.

Hi -- yes, that does help -- I'll pick a book I've just become aware of and explain that it might not be one of the 11 books that I most recently added to my TBR list because of the cataloging thing.

I'm not sure if I'm really asking this of Emily or the moderators.

As far as I'm concerned, just give me some info in your completed task post so I know what the story is. Up to Sue what is acceptable for the task - I just try to carry out the terms of the task description!

I have a very good idea of which 10 books have been on those shelves the longest. Can I use that as my list? And my most recent 11 purchases as my new TBR?
The new year is typically a time of out with the old, in with the new. This task will help get some books off your TBR list.
A. Out with the Old: Sort your Goodreads TBR list in descending order by date added (from oldest to newest). Out of the 10 books that have been on there the longest, read one written by an author that you've read before (if none of the oldest 10 books on your TBR list were written by an author you've read before, it's OK to pick a new-to-you author).
B. In with the New: Now sort your Goodreads TBR list in ascending order by date added (from newest to oldest). From the 11 books you've most recently added to your TBR list (at the time you are choosing your book for this task), read one written by a new-to-you author (if none of the newest 11 books on your TBR list were written by a new-to-you author, it's OK to pick one by an author you've read before).
