Let me simplify things:
It's all downhill after 25.
It's all downhill after 25.

^^^ old

My friends call me old ALL OF THE FUCKING TIME, and it's like, sometimes I embrace it, and then sometimes I'm like, "WHAT THE HELL? JUST BECAUSE I AM TELLING YOU KEEP IT IN YOUR FUCKING DRAWERS DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN CALL ME GRANDMA."
Everyone says that I'm older than my friends. A) I look older than them because I'm huge and I have a mustache B) I just don't do stupid shit. C) I'm bossy as hell D) I'd rather stay in and eat and take naps and watch movies rather than going out. And it's just........my manner, I guess you'd have to see me interact, but yes, my friends think I am hella old. Even the oldest person I am friends with, he calls me a 40 year old trapped in a teenage body.

1) I wonder if the fear of being called "old" is connected to the fear of death.
2) I dislike when people patronize old people, like "aren't you cute, old person!" If anyone does that to me when I'm really old I'm going to whack them with my cane.
3) I think the word "old" is sometimes synonymous with "lacking vitality". I know some old people with serious vitality, and some young people without it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Me too. I will sometimes ask for decaf if I'm at a restaurant, but I've heard waitstaff confess that when they ran out of decaf they gave people regular, so now I'm afraid to ask for decaf.

I don't find "old" and "young" all that useful as chronological terms, I guess. There are some youngish people who seem elderly (Ross Douthat, Jonah Goldberg). There are some oldish people who dress like teenagers and should not.
I think a good definition of old is when you rush to the restaurant to take advantage of the Early Bird special.
