Please delete this book! (pt. 5)
Ok, I think the following book needs to be deleted:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...
EDIT: The above edition ^ does not even have a valid isbn.
There are two other editions of this book, one Hardcover and one library binding, that appear legit based on loc.gov:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...
However, I think that the author should be changed to 'Walt Disney' and the editions combined together. I was also wondering if the titles should be shortened, and the extra info added to the description...?
Why do you say the ISBN isn't valid? (Leaving aside the fact that Amazon thinks it is, so deleting it would be an exercise in futility.)
I did shorten the titles, as you suggested, and made the author for all three Disney (it wasn't just Walt) and combined them.
I did shorten the titles, as you suggested, and made the author for all three Disney (it wasn't just Walt) and combined them.
I think it is invalid for the following reasons:1) Library of Congress can't find it.
2) WorldCat can't find it.
3) I also went to the isbn agency's website, which has a converter to convert isbn-10 to isbn-13 (http://www.isbn.org/converterpub.asp). When I put in the isbn for the first book in my previous post (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...), which has the isbn 9999035027, I get an error message 'Please enter a valid isbn'.
4) I tried the same as (3) above with the given isbn-13 and got the same error message.
5) also looking at the isbn agency's list of group numbers, http://www.isbn-international.org/en/..., there is no possible configuration , that i can tell, that would result in '9999' being the first four numbers of an isbn.
However, amazon will keep resurrecting this book/isbn as long as it is in their database. I thinking maybe we could delete the photo and other info, except for the isbn, then label it NOT A BOOK...?
On a related side note, I think there needs to be a consensus on how to classify 'Disney' books. The author 'Disney' has 370 distinct works.
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
The author 'Walt Disney' has 1015 distinct works. However, of those 1015, by my rough estimate, 990+ of these were published after Mr. Disney passed away (assuming orginal publication date is reasonably correct).
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
Technically, shouldn't these be changed to 'Disney'?
Either way I think we need to be consistent.
Were any written directly by him?If not, it would be easy to change the Walt Disney author to Disney and those two authors would merge; the individual books wouldn't have to be changed, except for some combining after the merge.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...I could delete this myself, but it'll just come back. The problem is more that I don't remember if blank books get the NOT A BOOK treatment or not, so I'm content to leave it for someone else!
(How Google Books coughed up an author for it is beyond me, come to think of it...)
I am fairly certain that there are no books that were directly and individually written by Walt Disney. So merging the Walt Disney author with the existing Disney author sounds like a good idea.
As far as the one with the non-legit ISBN (and yeah, even though the converter I checked with said it was fine and gave me an ISBN-13, it does seem fishy), I don't think I agree with making it not a book. But I'm willing to be convinced or outvoted. :)
(FYI, LoC and WorldCat frequently have trouble finding books published in countries other than the US. That is clearly not the case here, though.)

Well, while technically the author should be 'Disney', I would lean towards keeping the 'Walt Disney' author. Walt's profile has a nice bio and picture, and it's the more popular choice; the 'Disney' one doesn't have any info. It's an emtional choice, I guess...
However, I will go with whatever y'all decide.:)
I think this needs to be deleted:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20...
It's added by a user, has no isbn and 'hardback' is usually the same thing as 'hardcover'.
Ok, Thanks anyway. I asked because when I was new to Goodreads and entering a lot of my old pre-ISBN books I used hardback as the edition type. Ah well.
Just found a way to check and none of my read books are missing so the deleted book above wasn't one of mine. Whew! (I've noticed going back that some of the earliest books I entered should contain more information and when I've noticed them, I've added all the information available.)
I'm not sure if this book should be deleted or not. No ISBN, no reviews, nobody even has it marked "read." On the other hand, some people have it marked "to read" and it's supposedly going to be published next year. I can't find mention of it on the author's web site, or searching on title and author name elsewhere. Is it the book equivalent of vaporware, or just a very quiet planned project?
Sometimes the advance notice on books goes out before the title is final. :) I certainly wouldn't delete it before the to-be-published date, though!
I agree with Cait.Edit:
http://www.amazon.com/Poison-Study-Ma...
So, I'll add the ISBNs & such.
Edit again:
Ok, so this is strange. Goodreads wouldn't let me save the changes because the ISBN was already taken. There were no other editions of Inside Out in the database so I searched by ISBN 13 and got
Poison Study by the same author:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23...
I left my edits in the Inside Out edition.
Do other librarians have any ideas about this?

This one had a relatively recent publication date listed, so I doubt that was it. The book wasn't that old.

I ask for checking data of author Shuty and deleting the books that were made double by me. Should stay one Zwał and one Cukier w normie z eksrabonusem.
Anna, If you manually added a book, you can delete that book if it shouldn't be in the Goodreads database because of it being a duplicate. We can all edit/delete books we add.
I just added next book manually and it appears as double. find author called Tomasz Konatkowski and see the profile
Anna, That's happened to me before, where it shows twice on my profile, but it actually appears only once on my shelves. Some sort of glitch.I'd suggest you check for duplicates on your shelves. Go to my books, then go to the edit view, then click on find duplicates. You can delete any duplicates you find, although I suspect that the above book won't be one of them. I could be wrong of course.
Ok, so now every single book that I added has a duplicate. It must be some kind of mistake on page, so please check this out. :)
Monika,Please post what is happening, with as much detail as you can, and with links to some of those books to the Goodreads Feedback group. Please use the Bugs drop down folder for your post:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/1...
I don't know if this is a bug but it sounds like one.
If, as Anna said, these books are just at the author's profile, it's possible that you're adding books that are already in the Goodreads data base. You should be able to delete them off your own bookshelves though. Please don't delete them off the author's profile unless they're the books you actually entered and your rating is the only rating. Thanks.
If the above situation is not the case, then please send this information to the GR Feedback group's Bugs folder.
Thanks.
Edit: It sounds as though it has to do with this bug:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show_g...
Anna, If they're exact duplicates, try deleting them and checking to see if the book is still listed. If it is, you can put your rating on that book/edition. If both get deleted when you delete just one, we'll know that it's a bug of some sort.
Could someone help me with this one?http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33...
The author and the title is spelled wrong. It's suppose to be Harlan Coben and Tell No One, not Tell NoOne. There is no isbn though so I am a bit unsure if it is a duplicate edition because although I can find editions with 370pages, I cannot find an English edition that was published in 2006.
I tried to change the author and title and then combine but it keep reverse and stay the same for some reason :(
I did the title and the author. When I try to delete the book such a comunicate shows up: An unexpected error occurred. We will investigate this problem as soon as possible — please check back soon!
First, thank you! :)Hmm, that is strange.
I also did notice that although I suppose it is combined (all 'Tell No One' editions are combined), that edition doesn't actually show any on it's page and it has 47 ratings. Hmm...
Okey, I have the same problem as Anna, so do you still want me to write this information on feedback group or you check this out?
Don't delete ANY books!!! The bug is back!!! Duplicates show but if you try to delete one it will delete all copies!!!THANKS!
I hope the bug is fixed soon :) Things do seem to go smoothly now though. But if it is or until then:Could someone perhaps delete this one?
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39...
It had first a misspelled title and author, with no isbn or any other info but I've changed it now and combined it. However, it has over 50 ratings.
Elizabeth,No. All 3 editions appear to be ones members wanted to enter specifically. They're 1954, 1965, and 1972 copies. The first two wouldn't have had ISBNs. I'm leaving them in the database.
Now, I'm about to go look up first publication date because that's sure wrong! I will change that.
Wow! Someone changed it from 2008 to 1952 before I could do so!Edit: And someone deleted that third copy. Ah well.
Elizabeth, I deleted one of these, but the other two seem legitimate or at least, not clearly illegitimate. One was released before the ISBN, the other is on the border of usage (1972), both have publishers, number of pages, one even has a cover. I don't see a reason to delete either of these and couldn't find a replicate to combine them with.
This (no ISBN) is a duplicate of this book (has an ISBN). I tried to delete the one without the ISBN, but the system says it has too many reviews for me to do so. I don't see ANY reviews, and since it isn't even out yet, I doubt there are any. Would someone please delete the one without the ISBN?Thanks :-)
