WK, It's NOT A BOOK and has been labeled as such because it has an ISBN. Therefore, it stays in the database. If we delete items with ISBNs, they'll just reappear. That's why we label those NOT A BOOKs so at least members know they're not books. Thanks though!

Edit: There are many NOT A BOOKs. Last count for NOT A BOOK as an author: 16986 distinct works

Hate to be the bearer of annoying news, but our serial manual adder has been at it again. There's about 20 new invalid editions that she added (which is better than 300, but still irritating):

So apparently GR is going to have to step in on this one because nothing else has worked.

EDIT: if contacting GR is what should be done, maybe we should wait before doing combining/deleting so GR admin can see exactly what the situation is.

I've been working on them - again. I say contact GR admin too. She won't listen to us librarians; perhaps she'll listed to GR, Otis or one of the other "official" people.

Edit: Sorry, I was working on them before I saw the message in this thread. I come upon her name when I'm needing to delete editions so this time I went right to her profile and worked from there for the first time. I'm sure she'll do it again. I explained to GR what the situation was. They can check the logs to see what has been going on. Maybe be should wait to do further ones. GR will let us know.

I know someone has messaged her at least twice. After the last time, she didn't do anything for like 2 weeks or so. I kept her profile bookmarked and checked every few days. But obviously, the messages aren't getting across so I'm guessing GR needs to step in.

Isis, I emailed GR at the contact us link at the bottom of the page. I didn't know where the original thread about this was so didn't include links to this or the other thread (which any of you can do) but I told GR about the situation. I did include the link to her profile.

Edit: I did not message her, which I kind of regret. BUT, it's been done.

I was thinking of messaging her and including links to our discussions, but that seemed mean, despite being informative.

Rivka, She was messaged. I don't think she responded. BUT, for a while she did find books to add via the database. I corrected about 15 earlier today; the first one I happened to come upon.

I agree it's ignorance but because at one point she was adding books correctly, I am confused.

Did she ever actually add books the right way? I don't remember seeing any. At this point, I'm not sure it's done out of ignorance. It's been pointed out to her at least twice that books should be added a different way and it hasn't made a difference. It makes me wonder if she's doing this just because she wants to add books her way.

Isis, She did add some books correctly. Either she forgot or yes I wonder if she wants to do it her way. Maybe she doesn't know how to use the private notes or the review fields and knows how to use only the description field; otherwise, I don't see the advantage of coverless, blank, not able to be compared books. She has a lot of friends; I'd think she'd want to be able to compare books with them.

Edit: Melody, was it you? Anybody else message her?

Edit: The other issue is her book titles & authors are full of misspellings so maybe she does search and cannot find the books in the database. But some are correctly spelled so it doesn't account for the entire situation.

Yes, I think it must be one or the other. BUT, if she really understood how much work for us she was creating, I'd hope she'd follow the directions, at least most of the time. So, I hope that Goodreads does nicely message her and that she will add books the "normal" way and put her notes in the private notes or review sections.

She responded to my email, but very briefly, saying she would 'try to comply.' Let's hope she now understands the difference between adding a book to her shelves and adding a book to the database. Let me know if you still see duplicate editions added and I'll contact her again.
