2011 SFR Reading Challenge

I really enjoyed this one too.
I've lost count! LOL. I think I agreed to 15 and I have to be close to halfway. Yes, I'll keep reading SFRs even if I take a break now and then to read some other SF.

I'm now reading Space Fever.
Wow, could two books be more different?

I thought your worldbuilding and description were really good. You described body language so well I could see it. It was very realistic to how a normal person would probably feel waking up 300 years from now. I liked the tech too.

Space Fever... well, it was okay. If it had been much longer and I hadn't been doing this challenge I don't know that I'd have finished it. It wasn't a "deep" story at all and there wasn't much development of anything--world, characters, emotions.
Now I'm reading Old Man's War and like it enough after 20 pages to want to read the whole series. I think John Perry, the hero, is really funny. There's more worldbuilding in the first twenty pages than in all of the previous story.
But I'm sure if someone wants a light and fast read with some graphic sex (not a LOT) between strangers then they may like Space Fever.

Now reading book 2 in the series,

Now reading book 2 in the series,

You're on a roll!!

I love John Scalzi's trilogy. It has a very unusual, understated romance that carries through all three books. Book 1 is the male MCs story, book 2 is the female MCs story (if she survives). Although there isn't a lot of romance in Book 2, it's very exciting, tense, tragic, and doesn't always paint the human race as the 'good guys.'
Book 3 was the hardest for me to get into after the events in Ghost Brigades. It starts verrrrry slow, but about halfway in---total hook!
If you read the whole series, there's a surprise at the end of The Last Colony. *cough*thatmademecry*cough*
Have you come across Lt. Stross (?) yet. I LOVE that character.

No, no Lt. Stross yet. :-) Isn't it a four book series now? I heard there's a book called The Sagan Diaries, or something like it.

I think this would make it five book series. I haven't got around to Zoe's Tale yet, though.

I love John Scalzi's trilogy.
Ah, this is good news. I read the first book and loved it. I didn't even know it was a trilogy. Lawdy, my book pile groaneth, but I have to read these.

Off to sign up for the reading challenge.

So far this year:
Song of Scarabaeus Sara Creasy
Sweet Starfire Jayne Ann Krentz
Both books were great! I'm planning on reading the follow-up books:
Children of Scarabaeus
and
Crystal Flame
Shield's Lady

Finished these:
1.

6.

I'm reading books 11 and 12 simultaneously.

The books range from okay to stellar for me.

Next I'm reading

True Believers - Maria Zannini
Hunters - Lindsey Bayer and Michelle Marquis
Feral - Nathalie Gray
The Iron Duke - Meljean Brook (steampunk)
Thief - Anitra Lynn McLeod
In Enemy Hands - KS Augustin
Silver Bound - Ella Drake
Once Upon A Time in Space - Heather Massey
Dushau - Jacqueline Lichtenberg
The Spiral Path - Lisa Paitz Spindler
Next up:
Jaq's Harp - Ella Drake
But I'm going to read a few other books first.

I've only read two of yours!
The old story: so many books, so little time!

Which ones were winners, Diane? I haven't read any on your list, and only a few AnnaM posted.

Just finished

It was okay. But then I love my SF explained and it wasn't.
Dushau, for me, wasn't very romantic at all. Maybe I'll read Jaq's Harp next too. I do have it on my reader.
So, 13 down 2 to go!

Once Upon a Time in Space was so much fun. In Enemy Hands - the ending came too soon for me. I hope there's a sequel coming. Feral was good, but a bit too shapeshiftery for my taste. Silver Bound was good, but there was a particular element I had a hard time getting past. Gosh, I enjoyed them all, really.

Dushau, for me..."
Heh. I was very comfortable not understanding the science in Spiral Path. I really enjoyed the Calendra and Raphael characters.
Dusahu - first part of a trilogy, so no big fat HEA at the end of the first part. Don't know if there'll be one at the end of the trilogy either.

For Spiral Path I didn't want long, drawn out explanations for everything--just a few more than there were. It wasn't just the SF, either. The "myths" about Calendra weren't told either, only hinted at. I would have liked to read one, however short.

I've had In Enemy Hands on my TBR list for a while, and Massey's book looks good. I'll try that one, too. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I only signed up for a "earth" challenge because I read a lot of other genres, not just sci-fi rom. I'm going to end up reading a lot more than 5 sci-fi rom books this year, though. ;-) I'm getting too many great suggestions hanging around this group.

It's just a really, really awesome book.

I think my absolute favorites from Linnea are Hope's Folly and Accidental Goddess. Games is actually my least favorite. I do recommend reading the entire Dock 5 series in order though to get the most out of it. I'm sad that I've read all her books! There are no more yet!

Well at least in this fangirls eyes. =)
I don't know, Games of Command just REALLY got to me...

Good job Jacqueline!

I thought I posted a few days ago that I finished Rebels and Lovers.
Today I started reading Tsunami Blue
The beginning is really good. Strong sense of character. The feeling of a huge world. Good worldbuilding.
And I don't just like it because there's a dog. :-)
I chose this one over Lancaster Rule because in my ereader it was 233 pgs vs 690. I want to be able to read Children of Scarabeaus as soon as I can get it without having to stop halfway through a long novel. A short one? I'll finish first.
