John x (radishfriends) Is global warming a problem to the earth?
Is global warming a problem to us here and now?

In my opinion. No, it won't be a problem until 300 years or something.
If it won't affect me in my lifetime, then i don't know why i should give any care to it.

Global warming isn't a problem that is high on my list to care about, so i don't think its a problem for me.

message 2: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I disagree. Global warming is a problem, very likely to affect us in out lifetime. In fatc, scientists believe that it has already started to affect us. If you look at the catastrophes: The Tsunami, the flood in Pakistan, the vulkano on Iceland, etc. They're getting worse and they're happening more often. If you look at the statisctics you'll also find that the CO2 in the atmosphere is much higher than it has ever been.

As for you saying that it's not your problem 'cause you don't think that it'll affect you in your ligetime. I'd like to know ehy you think so? Even if it dosen't affect us in our lifetime, it'll still affect our children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. It'll affect humans to come. So, personally, I care, even if it wont affect me in my lifetime.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 244 comments My opinion: I personally believe it. I think that the best solution would be to find a more environmentally friendly source of fuel, while also being sure that it is cheaper and more practical. Everyone complains about the cost of gas. Many people complain about the effect gas has on the atmosphere. Make something cheaper and more environmentally friendly, and most people will be happy. (I won't say everyone because there's always someone who's not happy.)

Emma, I don't think that the atmosphere is affecting things like earthquakes and volcanoes. I remember reading somewhere that there hasn't been much of a change in the number of these things, just in the fact that more are happening near people. (I could be wrong, though...I'll go check)

message 4: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I definitely think global warming is true and something we should be concerned about. Even if it doesn't affect us that badly now, why wouldn't I try to help so my children or grandchildren don't have to suffer for our mistakes.

Pollution is definitely a big issue. I think that when companies start coming out with the eco-friendly cars, or electric cars, or ones that run off water, or any of that stuff, they need to make them more affordable for everyday people.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

Though I'm not having any children of my own, I agree with you Rowan, Emma, and Rachel. We should do our part to make the world a better place for tomorrow (Okay, wow, that sounded dorkier than I meant for it to.)

You might be right about that. But I do believe I read somewhere that the Global Warming (which has to do with CO2 in the atmosphere) had an effect on the number of catastrophese.

message 7: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I believe it is a problem, i just had people come into my skl and show us a video about the world tipping over to the 'danger zone' where we would be closer to the sun etc, and they said if something isnt done to stop it then it couls 'tip' in a decade. And it has clearly already started to effect us.

You're right. I just looked it up. The melting glaciers affect the pressure put on the crust, which can cause more seismic activity.

I suppose I can be wrong sometimes. Occasionally.

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Hey, at least you admit it :) And you said earlier that you just thought, and that you might be wrong, so I don't know if it could actually be called "being wrong", when one dosen't know if one is right.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 244 comments Ha ha, thanks. :)

message 11: by John (new)

John x (radishfriends) The reason that i don't care about global warming is because, lifes too short. You can't let the little things in life (like the temperature rising 0.02 degrees Fahrenheit) to slow you down.

I guess i could care about it, but i think that everyone is making a bigger deal out of it then it should be.

message 12: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) I think we should do our part in stopping global warming. But that doesnt mean you have to go to extreme ways to stop it. Try as much as u can.

message 13: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Noone is telling you to shut down your house and live on the streets to safe electricity :) It's just little things, like taking bus and/or train instead of a car and turning off the lights when you leave the house. Open windows instead of aircondition..

message 14: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Yes, that's what I mean. but like u said abt ac... sumtyms it gets unbearably hot, then I dont think its rong to turn on the AC.

message 15: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) I'm not saying that you can never again turn on the AC, but when it's possible you can just open the windows. If it's really that hot, then AC is allright, but as long as opening the windows'll do the job, I think that's the better solution.

message 16: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Yup, true, since we hardly use the AC anyway, even wen it's pretty hot. It's just a wastage of electricity and leads to the bigger bad. if that makes sense, lol.

message 17: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yes, I see what you meen. I don't think we even have aircondition in my house... I'm asking my mom. Oh she says No. So we don't have aircondition :) Well, why would we need it, Denmark is so cold. We have heating though.

message 18: by Kylee (new)

Kylee (kyleeraereader) I always feel bad because in my bedroom my heater is "broken" and just turns on randomly so during the summer it's heating my room for no reason and wasting electricity. But during the winter my room is always the warmest :)

message 19: by Gatorman (new)

Gatorman Global warming has been going on for thousands of years and it's not because mankind has caused too much carbon dioxide to enter the atmosphere. I think it's rather arrogant of us to think that we are the cause of global warming and that we will bring about the destruction of the planet by using gas-guzzling cars and spray cans.

message 20: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments there are arguments both for and against Global Warming...there appears to be more empirical evidence that global warming is indeed occurring. However, I will point out that the reason Greenland got it's name is because when the vikings found it the areas they saw were green and habitable. It did not last long because we had a mini ice age which now appears to be ending. Is it ending because of humanity's pollution? Well, I will point out there were millions of dinosaurs once and I am sure their defecations caused a sharp rise in methone and may have influenced their environment so I suppose humanity could have the same impact on the environment. In my parent's and grandparent's time people lived where they worked and either walked, took a bus/streetcar or rode their bicycle to work. no suburbs or long commutes. When I was a child I walked or took my bicycle or the bus to wherever I wanted to go during the daytime. If I went out at night it was on the bus with at least 1 other person with me (never alone) or on rare occasions, my dad or mom would drive me. Most of us did not have a car the minute we turned 16 especially if you were female back then in prehistoric times. Do you want to go back to that? Living in the city/town where you or your parents work? I am a strong believer in mass transit but if you live in a suburb like me it does not exist. And many of the smaller cities have curtailed their bus schedules so that you have to wait an hour to get on one and it only runs during the day and stops at 7 PM.and what about airplanes? they use a huge amount of fuel! and creates pollution as well. It is a huge problem with many, many complexities. However,I will point out that NH had one of the mildest winters ever in 2009-2010. and one of the warmest: Merrimack had a 68 degree reading on Easter..that is unusual in northern New England that early in the spring and It had one of the longes, hottest summers on record. The cool autumn weather did not get here until mid-October and even now mid-november it is still warm. for us that is.

Gatorman Alex-wa wrote: "Well...I'm probably alone on this, but I'm just going to come out and say it: I don't believe Global Warming is real. At all. Well, before you just attack me with statements such as: "YES GLOBAL WA..."

No, you are not alone. I agree with most of what you said, but it is hard to dispute that "global warming" itself occurs naturally over various time periods based on the evidence. I agree with you, though, that the "green movement" is a sham designed to instill fear and raise money which is likely as mismanaged as much as other so-called fundraisers are.

message 22: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 158 comments even if global warming fever is all hype, the fact remains that polluting the air we breathe, the water we drink, the seas and earth that give us food and life are serious problems with repurcussions that will last for centuries. the green movement has many good ideas for decreasing pollution and making good use of dwindling resources. the oil will runout someday , las vegas has drunk lake mead dry, much of the world does not have safe drinking water, plastic is not biodegradable, pesticides kill birds and other life forms....the air must be safe to breathe or we are all agoner.

message 23: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) You underestimate ur president..

message 24: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) And you overestimate their president.

message 25: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments The president doesn't have /that/ much power... you know. Things have to go through congress, check and balances. Blah, blah.

message 26: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Yeah... I don't wanna get into this but the presidents are the worst people living. Even my own, so don't get me rong.

message 27: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Why? Why are they so bad? Would you rather have a monarchy?

message 28: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) No, I'd rather have decent presidents governing.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Ladida, I don't have a president. Just a primeminister, and he has no real power. I hate my current government, they're so stupid. Lucky there's a vote in the beginning of next year. Then we'll get the good guys :)

message 30: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments I love my president. He's cool. Liberal, and such.

message 31: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) President, prime minister, goverment... all the sam.

message 32: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Not here it ain't. I can't speak for other countries, and I don't really like my primeminister, but I can tell you how it is in Denmark. First off we're a very small country, which you should all remember. We're very uncorrupt, if slightly unfriendly the first time you meet us (this goes for everyone). The older generations are not very enviormential, though the younger generations are. We use bicycles all the time. And we used to be vikings.

Now you've got some small facts about us. Is it the same for you?

message 33: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Nope. Our goverment is corrupt. Filled with american puppets who know damn about ruling. There a lot of corruption here... we came frum the aryans.

message 34: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yeah, well ours ain't corrupt. We're globalised yes, we're part of the EU and the UN, yes. But that's not corruption. That's globalising. And really, who are we kidding? Denmark is about the sice of a childs pinkyfinger nail, it's nearly impossible not to globalise. Plus, most of us like it :) Being so... near the world, in lack of better way to put it.

message 35: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) Erm, ok. I donno much about Denmark in this topic, so gud to know.

message 36: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Well you don't know much about Denmark Period. How could you? You live fairly far away from here.

message 37: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Denmark is really pretty.

message 38: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Hmm... I would change that sentence to "Denmark is really cold"... But thank you :) You ever been?

message 39: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 470 comments Yes, we lived there for a while. Like, 2 months? DX
Cold, psh. I live in Michigan, its up Northhh. I'm used to cold.

message 40: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Hey, my friends best guy-firend live in Michigan! Hey, Denmark is a very cold place. It's been snowing for weeks now. Heehee. Anyway, it's just that we don't have these extreme season. We have rain and then some sunshine and then more rain a some snow and then rain again. It's very grey.

- really, don't listen to me. I'm hatin' on my own country these days. Stupid conservative government... *Mumbles on*

message 41: by Amina (new)

Amina (journalistam) I just know a little about Denmark, yeah. Like the thing about the Muhammad drawings. And then there was sum other issue too. And we were supposed to boy cott ur products..

message 42: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yeah, there was a recent issue that was stupid beyond words. The newspapers where spammed with reader-colums, all telling them what they thought of that(it wasn't the newspapers fault though, it's just a way to tell the world what you think). People went on TV an threw tantrums and we were all pretty loud about how stupid we thought it was. I spent a whole day raging on and on about it, and I was joined by every person I know. We were all as pissed as anyone.

meri (meri_is_a_saltedfish) | 127 comments global warming is not a problem is not a problem to the earth...it's not even a problem here, now...what we call global warming is just the earth's way of preserving itself...it happens everytime...there's a period of change in climates...it's normal...but i also agree that we should make the world a better place...but we are just a strand of hair, a dust in the wind, a star in the universe...but yeah...i think we still can make a difference..!

message 45: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Yes, the CO2 thing has happened before. We know that from the GreenlandIce-experiment. But this is the most it's ever been.

message 46: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) Lindsay: Who're you talking to when you say "That's not true"?

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma (zeeberg) It's alright. You just had be confused for a second there.

message 48: by Tamlyn (new)

Tamlyn (sushipie) | 8 comments Hmmm. . . I'm a little confused with the diction used here. Global Warming is not something that you can 'believe in' or not. Its not a faith or some esoteric occurance, its fact. The worlds CO2 and other greenhouse gas levels ARE rising, and thus the earths atmosphere IS absorbing more heat. Perhaps it has to do with 'believing' the sources from where this information is coming. As a varsity student studying Biology (environmental sciences is part of the course) I can personally vouch for these sources. What we call 'Global warming' is real, and it is caused by human beings. - Not my opinion at all, just something I've studied and observed with my own eyes.

message 49: by Jerry (new)

Jerry | 850 comments i think the correct term would not be global warming, but global climate change. things get colder in some areas at some times, things get hotter in other areas at other times.

message 50: by Jerry (new)

Jerry | 850 comments Even though it is inaccurate. There will be warming in some areas, cooling in others.
