It depends on what I am writing will depend on the characters. Since my story is about native americans and Inuit's; I use native American and Inuits name and I use the names to descripe what magic and spirit they will have.
i just use names that i like or sound cool, in the story i am currently writing the main characters are Elva and Jamid.
Two of my favorite characters are the ones I am writing about right now. Alana "Lana" Ross, her sister, Eibhlin (pronounced ave+linn) and Lana's love interest, Declan. I am in love with Irish and Scottish names. Those are where my family is from, so I feel a need to use them. And they are so unusual and beautiful!

Does anyone have a name that they just refuse to not like. They love the character but hate the name?

haha christa. my computer is soo ancient. its like as old as my grandparents so im not sure if i can do that lol
I don't think so... Most of the books I've read the names just seem to be a part of who the character is.
I think that it's important that the names FIT with the personality. I usually create the personality first and then think of what name sounds perfect. It's a LONG process for me!
What do people think about the names Colette and Nolen??

Does anyone have a name that they would never use in a story? Even if it fit the character? What is your absolute least favorite name?
Not any I can think of at the moment but if I do I'll tell you.
Christa wrote: "Does anyone have a name that they would never use in a story? Even if it fit the character? What is your absolute least favorite name?"Anything in the top 50 common names like Jessica, Michelle, Adam, John... Well I'd probably still use them, just not for a main character. I like their names to stand out. I'd like to use the name Campbell Craven for a female lead, but I've yet to write a character who fits the name... Sadly.

Ya I'm like that two. The main characters have to be different.
is there a certain ethnic group that you pull your names from like Italian or Greek, Latin. Or is it that's pretty I like it!

Add the meaning if you want to.
