Was listening to the latest episode (#46) and heard Tom mention that this book maybe wasn't what he was looking for from an Arthurian Legend story, and also the question that was asked about what people consider a canonical legend. Strangely enough, the legend that I consider canonical would also (I think) be what Tom would be looking for. The series in question is Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy which is made up of The Crystal Cave (Merlin, #1), The Hollow Hills (Merlin, #2), and The Last Enchantment (Merlin, #3). The series was continued beyond these three books, but for some reason I've never been able to continue reading past these three, so I can't comment on the rest of the saga. This initial trilogy, though, is by far the best (and most believable) interpretation of Arthur and Merlin that I have ever seen.
