TPBM would, in some situations, love to get even and take revenge but not in this rumor-reading scenario.
I speak from personal experience. If you try to get back at a person who is spreading rumors about you by spreading rumors about THEM, it turns into a vicious cycle of rumors circulating. It goes back and forth, back and forth, and doesn't end until a very, very, very long time when people eventually become sick of it.
