message 51: by Garlan ✌ (new)

Garlan ✌ At least 100.

message 52: by Jill (last edited Jan 06, 2011 07:52PM) (new)

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) I cannot possibly count the number of my books are still unread. My problem is that I keep going to the library and taking out a bag of books and then order some more from my book club. I try to put those unread ones in one place in my library but I am not being very successful. I guess you just can't every have enough books.

I used to feel that way, then I remembered that it used to be a family entertainment to read books aloud to one another, and that's very much like an eBook. Also, I started living with a long commute that was a perfect opportunity to read some books that I might never get around to otherwise.

I only eBook if I can find an unabridged version of the novel, and I limit it to my driving time. But right now I have Crime and Punishment in my car CD player, and that's a book I doubt I would ever tackle otherwise!

I'd say I have over 50 that are books I've purchased or been given, but if we count my husband's books then the number is in the hundreds.

It's gratifying to know that if the whole world were quarantined for a year, I'd never run out of reading material!

message 55: by Werner (new)

Werner Gini, in message 53 above, do you mean e-books or audio books?

message 56: by Gini (new)

Gini | 106 comments Sorry, I meant audiobooks! I guess I mentally made the translation in my mind because I struggled with the idea of audiobooks but it never occurred to me to have a problem with e-books! I personally love that I am never caught in an unexpected queue without a book, thanks to my iPhone!

I "seed" places with actual books - my car, work, my purse, etc. so that I am never without a book. I find e-books cold and sterile, and refuse to get one, although if I did and reduced my 3000+ book home library, my husband would be happier.

I told my husband that the ereader would do just that, but I have yet to get rid of a single book. In fact, I just keep buying more "real" books.

Arch | 80 comments I have hundreds of books that I haven't read yet.

message 60: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I got rid of an entire box of books Thursday ... probably 40 or 50. All westerns so not mine! LOL I think they belonged to my father-in-law. We found them in the attic & promptly donated to the library. I didn't like ebooks very much either until I read a really good one. Then it didn't matter at all as I was so engrossed in the story. I do prefer the iPhone store books to the Kindle app ones. I find the features much more user friendly & I like the font better, but I could probably change that on the Kindle ones. I have finally gotten involved in Little Dorrit & it's great to be able to read a huge book with very little pain in my hands. For Truman I had to buy a Roberts bookholder & sit at the table with it ... which is ok. I firmly believe I could read standing on my head!

message 61: by Marian (new)

Marian (gramma) | 13 comments When I "downsized" from a house to a small cottage my collection of over 1,000 beeks came with me. More than half are read. Some I'm saving for my kids. Most ar destined for the library we are starting in our village, but I have to look at them first. I get books at the Goodwill (when they have sales, hardcovers are $1.00, at the county seat library where I used to work, hardovers are .50.) Every room has 2 or 3 bookcases. There are "Golden Oldies" that I think everyone should read & there are also new book that I order from catalogs or the internet. I also have a supply of flashlights & batteries so I can read when the power goes out.

message 62: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) I "seed" places with books too! I stash beat up paperbacks in my car, my purse, my desk at work, the bathroom. I alwasy have my ITunes fully loaded with a variety of audiobooks as well so if I have housework to do, walk the dogs, lots of car time-I can listen.

message 63: by Jenny (new)

Jenny okay, maybe I shouldn't admit this, but if I am stuck in traffic, I will read a page or two while I am waiting to move. :)

message 64: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) Jenny you are not the only one. Since I usually have a book in my purse, I will even read while standing in line at a store.

I hate carrying a purse, so have a very small cross-body bag. And books in the car tend to get damaged, which hurts my heart more than reading on my phone does. I wouldn't carry a separate eReader, but having books on my iPhone makes it easy to read wherever I go.

message 66: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Jarvis (screalwriter) | 40 comments I got down to two unread in November. Then I started writing and Christmas and a Kindle happened. I can't read when I'm writing but I can download. I'm up to about fifteen and counting. LOL

message 67: by Diane (new)

Diane (dyanny) | 2 comments I have many books I have not read yet. I also have about 50 on my kindle. I am doing better, I used to have hundreds of books in my TBR mountain, but I have worked my way thru most and do most reading on my kindle.

message 68: by Steve (new)

Steve Chaput (stevec50) It was bad enough before Christmas when I had at least four books unread. It has more than doubled now. I won't even count those e-books on my Nook, but some of those are books I had read previously and bought just to have availabale.

message 69: by Shay (new)

Shay | 528 comments I'm over 1300 now, counting Nook Books. I keep discovering that books like Call of the Wild are in the public domain, so I have to download them. Also, Agatha Christie's books are slowly coming into public domain, so I downloaded all the ones I could find that are. I can't resist those free books. I need another memory chip for my Nook. The 16 GB (or is it MB?) chip can hold an extra 11,000 or so books and I want one! I think I may actually need it.

message 70: by Helena (new)

Helena I probably have between 15 and 20 unread books on my shelves. Some were gifts that just haven’t gotten to, or maybe aren’t my cup of tea. I go to two different charity used book sales and I pick up about 100 books between the two, it takes me a bit to get through them :)

🥀 Rose 🥀 (peacemom) | 107 comments The books I've read are downstairs on the shelf (only the ones I love) and upstairs in my bedroom there are about 184 books on my TBR shelves. I prefer reading downstairs, I get stressed just looking at all the wonderful books I want to read them all right now LOL!

LOL! You and I are in the same boat Shay. Among those I have downloaded are all the Oz books, dozens by Zane Grey and a half dozen Tarzan novels, not counting the "100 Classic British Mystery Novels & Stories". Also, the weekly 'free' ebooks from Barnes & Noble have not helped matters.

message 73: by Debra (new)

Debra (debrapurdykong) I have between 50 to 60 books still to read, and some have been waiting a long time. But it used to be around 80, so I'm slowly cutting it down by buying less paperbacks (and more ebooks) and asking my family not to give me books as gifts. My goal is to read them all, though.

message 74: by Steven (new)

Steven Belanger | 37 comments Literally hundreds. All of the To Read books on my Goodreads page are books I actually own but haven't read. And what I inputted so far is but the tip of the iceberg.

message 75: by Beth (new)

Beth (vanburren) | 4 comments I have about 350 books on my shelves right now that I haven't read yet. I usually buy 3 or 4 more books every time I read one, it seems like!

for-much-deliberation ... (formuchdeliberationreads) Quite a few, amongst them an 'Ayn Rand' and a 'Stephen King' that I keep putting off, I guess something new is always coming up...
I even have loads of books in my audio collection to listen too!...

message 77: by Julie (new)

Julie S. Debra, it's rather funny that you have to ask your family not to give you books. I suppose that there are worse problems. :)

Yeah, I know. But my mom doesn't listen and buys me books anyway. Who am I to complain?
