Sandi (sandikal) In "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" where it says that androids kill their owners to escape to Earth? I've read it twice now and haven't seen it said. Deckard has convinced himself that they are killers because that allows him to kill them under the principles of Mercerism. In Chapter 5, he thinks: "And he did not like the idea of being stalked; he had seen the effect on androids. It brought about certain notable changes, even in them."

I'm thinking that the androids turn into killers because they are in danger of being killed.

Beth A. (bethalm) It's in the middle of chapter three, pg 32 in my book. The paragraph starts on page 31 with the sentence... "Rick liked to think of them that way; it made his job palatable."

Sandi (sandikal) Beth, I have that passage highlighted. However, is it fact, or is it Deckard's rationalization?

Beth A. (bethalm) I think it is perhaps a generally accepted fact (prejudice).

However, near the end of chapter 14 pg 164 Pris says "He doesn't understand yet",..."how we got off Mars. What we did there."

And at the beginning of chapter 16 it says Baty "had engineered the killing of a variety of human beings... followed by the flight to Earth."
