Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 108 comments LOL - thanks Becky - nice to know I have very loyal readers :)

Renée - I type my stories, which is why I don't overhand set the ball when I play volleyball so I don't jam a finger!

Maria! I'm rereading ToP and SoM, and a new question rose: who's your favorite heroine? Soulfinder Yelena, Glassblower Opal or Healer Avry? And why?

And a follow up question, which one is most based on you?

Good question! I'm wondering that too:)

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 108 comments Renée - Do you pester your mother on who is her favorite child? ;>

I'd have to say I'm partial to Avry - she's more nurturing than Yelena and more confident than Opal and nicer than Trella. I love all my girls - Yelena because she's brave, Opal because she's persistent, and Trella because she bad a$$.

Out of all of them, I think I'm the most like Opal - I didn't have much confidence in myself in school and like Opal, I grew to be more confident as I went from high school to college to a career.

Books were always part of my life - my mother read to me until I could read myself - If I had to give credit, I'd say Dr. Seuss and Leo Lionni. As for what started me writing, at the time I started I was reading science fiction and fantasy - Anne McCaffrey, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and David Eddings.

Maria! I'm rereading SoM, and I totally forgot about Berna! My favorite aunt is named Berna too! And SoM Berna totally reminds me of her!
Why did you pick the name Berna?

message 65: by Maria (new)

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 108 comments In my baby name book, Berna means brave bear. When I start a new novel, I make a list of girl and boy names that I like and write down the meanings. Then as I'm writing and need a character name, I refer to my list. So when I needed a name for Danny and Zila's nanny, I thought Berna would be perfect.

Courtney Lee (courtneyleemitchell) | 4 comments I just noticed that there were going to be THREE MORE BOOKS in the Study series. Now I'm so freaking excited. That means MORE VALEK!!!! *squeal*

Anyway, my question is, is there any new information about these new study books that you can share with us? Like a possible estimated release date, etc?

From the FAQ of Maria's blog:

Question 3: Are you going to write more Study books about Yelena and Valek?

Answer: YES!! After I finish with TASTE OF DARKNESS, I will be writing another Study book, featurning Yelena and Valek! This new Study book will be out in late 2014 (no official date or title yet). The book will focus more on Valek and his past with the Commander. There will be scenes written from both Valek and Yelena's point of view and you'll get to meet Valek's parents. I'm quite excited about returning to the world and characters. It's been long enough and I've lots of new adventures for them both.

Courtney Lee (courtneyleemitchell) | 4 comments OMG! That sounds SOOOOOO COOL!!!! U love Valek and I want to learn so much more about him. *Squeal*

by the way, how old is Valek really? it is never really confirmed in the books.

Rebecca Im a newbie to good reads and am so excited that i can talk to one of my favorite authors! I'd just like to say Maria thank you so much for writing these amazing books! I am a huge fan but as I live in New Zealand I can't get to your signings :( I love all the characters in the study, glass and healer series but Avry would have to be my favorite :) You are an amazing author!

Thank you Rebecca! I hope to return to New Zealand in the future and spend more than 5 days there! A beautiful country with lots of places to visit.

And for those of you wondering about Valek's age. He's 33 in Poison Study - I couldn't make him any younger and still have him learn to be an assassin and then be a vital part of the take-over.

Becky | 500 comments wow, now thats an age difference!

Maria V. Snyder (maria_v_snyder) | 108 comments Becky wrote: "wow, now thats an age difference!"

It is - but consider Bella and Edward from Twilight - she's 17/18 and he's...125 ;>

message 75: by Becky (new)

Becky | 500 comments Yeah, but thats just creepy

message 76: by Courtney Lee (new)

Courtney Lee (courtneyleemitchell) | 4 comments It makes sense though if you think about it. In worlds like Ixia, age between couples weren't as restricted as say, in our society. In their world, Yelena and Valek don't think their age difference matters because its sort of the norm for couples in their world.

And Yelena is very mature for her age! :)
