TinaNoir Shelly Laurenston writes funny paranormal and is very mutli-culti in her writing. I noticed a few mentioned but figured I'd round out the rest:

Pack Challenge (Magnus Pack, #1) by Shelly Laurenston Pack Challenge Native American heroine/white hero

(the other two books in her pack series have already been mentioned up-thread. All the heroines are women of color, the second is AA and the third is Latino)

The Beast in Him (Pride, #2) by Shelly Laurenston The Beast in Him (AA heroine). The second in the Pride series

The Mane Squeeze (Pride, #4) by Shelly Laurenston The Mane Squeeze (Asian heroine). The 4th book in the Pride series. The 5th book, featuring an AA heroine Beast Behaving Badly was mentioned uprthread.

I do rec reading the whole series, this author is not shy about bringing back previous characters in books. This series sometimes reads like a huge family reunion.

Hunting Season (The Gathering #1) by Shelly Laurenston Hunting Season. First book in a new series, heroine is mixed-race (probably AA/Latino), hero is Norse/Viking stock. Paranormal take off on Norse mythology.

Belong To The Night (includes The Long Island Coven, #2) by Shelly Laurenston Belong To The Night. And Anthology featuring SL's novella "The Wolf, The Witch, and Her Lack of Wardrobe". Heroine is a AA witch. Hero is a good-ole boy sheriff.

And not Shelly Laurentson but also IR Urban Fantasy

Stripped by Marcia Colette Stripped. Pure UF. Heroine is AA.

CheeseAssasin (makefetch) | 78 comments Thanks Tina. Is it any good?

message 55: by ☺~Tina~☺ (new)

☺~Tina~☺ (tina007) | 65 comments I thought it was pretty good for a first in the series. I downloaded it from my library because I was looking for anything paranormal with african americans. I need to get back to the series. Plus it was something different from vampires and shifters.

CheeseAssasin (makefetch) | 78 comments Good idea. I'm going to check and see if my library carries the e-book. I've been burned too many times to buy anything, unless it's ridiculously cheap.

☺~Tina~☺ (tina007) | 65 comments If your library doesn't have ebook check your surrounding ones too. I registered online for the one I get my ebook from, it's a couple of cities over. I know what you mean too especially for series or authors you don't know.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 157 comments The character of Capricious Jones is AA, but there is another character who is biracial. I really want more people to read this series because it's awesome!

I'm looking at the cover and wondering if this is IR. Anyone know?"

Hi! I'm the author of 'Blessed' and a reader pointed me to this thread. Yes, Blessed is IR and MC. The leading lady is half AA and half Dutch. The next novella is the series is about a Brazilian and Egyptian woman, and the next book is about an Asian woman. My heroes are of all different races as well.

I grew up in a very vibrant and multi-cultural neighborhood where I had friends of every race/creed/color. As we were growing up we would nab our Mom's bodice ripper romance novels and giggle over them, but it was always noted that there was a lack of leading ladies that were anything but white.

As my friends and I have grown older our tastes have grown beyond the bodice rippers and we all devour paranormal romances and urban fantasies now. Still the same problem, a lack of anything besides super skinny chicks in leather pants that look like they stepped off a runway.

So, when I decided to follow my lifelong dream of writing, I decided to make my heroines represent my friends. In fact, each leading lady is based, looks and somewhat personality wise off of a real life friend.

Eliana, the leading lady in Blessed, is based off of a girlfriend of mine who is German and Jamaican. Beautiful woman with a generous heart, but we grew up in the 90's when having curves was considered a bad thing.

In 'Blessed' Eliana embraces her curves and who she is. Of course she has things about herself she would like to change, who doesn't, but they are mostly things on the inside, not the outside.

Wow, sorry to have given you such a long response! I'm passionate about women loving who they are, and embracing the things that make them unique. Thanks for reading my long winded explanation!

Ann

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 200 comments Ann, your book sounds great. Thanks for blessing us with such diverse characters in your books!

Ann Mayburn | 4 comments -Forgive me for my long posts. I'm a very chatty chat board person.--

Thank you so much for the support, ladies. :) I was told by an agent, who shall remain nameless, that there was no market for ir/mc paranormal romance, that I would be better off making her leading lady white. I was so glad that agent let me know what a total mistake it would have been to sign with them right away. Instead I found a publisher that believes love comes in all shapes and colors and gives me the freedom to follow my heart.

I would encourage any potential authors out there to write what you love and the right people will find it and love it too. :)

Ann, yours is a story I've heard many times before and it still makes me face-palm that people are still that ignorant. Once again attitudes like that are why e-books are kicking the crap out of traditional publishers.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 157 comments Hollowstone.

This is AA and YA and from what I've heard is due out on the 17th of this month.

Troysmom09 | 103 comments Yes I saw your review. It wasn't the best book, but I thought it had its place here!! I still have a couple that I have read in the past few days that I want to share. I hope people will do the same. Please let me know of any new paranormal romance out there that had a AA leading lady. I have come across a few recently that I was pleasantly surprised to find actual women of color.

Ann Mayburn | 4 comments Turquoise Moon, (Prides of the Moon, #3) by Ann Mayburn

My short story, Turquoise Moon, is IR(BW/WM/WM). It is also a menage with interaction between the men and the woman. If that's your cup of tea I hope you'll check it out. :)

Jessica Wimberly (lovehina154) I believe that the new ghostwalker book by Christine Feehan is going to be interracial. The hero is black and the heroine white.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 200 comments Oh, awesome. Is the hero Tucker or Sam? I am soooo excited!

message 73: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Wimberly (lovehina154) Sam and the heroine is thorn

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 200 comments Yay! Too bad we have to wait until July! Thanks for the info, Jessica.

Jessica Wimberly (lovehina154) Your quite welcome. ^_^

message 76: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Vaughn (aaronvictorvaughn) Can I add my African American paranormal novel, "Imagining Things" for the group's consideration? It's about the rewards for following your intuition — and the punishments for ignoring it.

Ever care for the wrong one, when you KNEW better; someone looked good but was no good, and you loved them anyway? What was the price of not following your intuition and your gut instincts?

message 77: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir I picked up the two books known as The Felig Chronicles. Takes place on an earth that has been invaded by hostile Aliens. The Felig Chronicles and Something Else Wicked. The books feature the same IR (BW/WM) couple.

Haven't read them yet so I don't know how good they are, but they sure looked interesting and different.

message 78: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Vaughn (aaronvictorvaughn) Thanks, Deva! I'm new to goodreads. Can you tell me how I add it to the African American list, the General section, or point me to directions on the website?

message 79: by Aaron (new)

Aaron Vaughn (aaronvictorvaughn) Thank you, Deva!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 200 comments Not yet. It's on the list, though.

message 81: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir Deva, I read it. It was a solid 3-star for me. I remember not being too thrilled with the heroine's family back-story.

message 82: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir Y'know, I think it might provoke thoughtful discussion. So yeah.

Tanya Urban Fantasy Freak (tinky) | 33 comments A Guardian's Desire by Mya & Darkness Bound by Mya by Mya are pretty good, the 1st book is IR menage and the second is bw/bm

I just read an excerpt from Smashwords: http://www.smashwords.com/extreader/r...
The heroine is biracial and the hero is white. I might check it out....

Jessica Wimberly (lovehina154) I was looking around the site and I found this book. The Highest Price to Pay (Mills & Boon Hardback Romance) by Maisey Yates

message 86: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir Sacred Evil (Krewe of Hunters, #3) by Heather Graham by Heather Graham. #3 in a series called the Krewe of Hunters. It centers around a small FBI unit who are dispatched to investigate murders that often have a paranormal element. This one heavily features one of the Krewe, Whitney who is biracial and her romance with a white NYC cop. Good series with a wide racial divesity of characters throughout the series.

Now I haven't read this series, but since this book is $1.99, I decided to get it. I also bought Tiger Eye(Book 1) for $1.99 some months ago.

Did any of you try this series yet?

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) @Deva: you made me think I was seeing things. I went back to Amazon and you are kind of right. The Paperback version has an Asian Lady on the cover. The Kindle version (which was the one I got) has a sister. I zoomed on it just to make sure, but is pretty obvious.
