Lori (moderatrixlori) Hi everyone! I'm so excited to have found this site. I was an avid reader when I was younger and then life got busy and I didn't devote as much time to reading as I should have.

It was the Twilight book, given to me by a 15 year old friend, that fired up my interest in reading again. I can't quite explain why this series has captured me, a 47 year old, but it has.

I stumbled on this site a couple of days ago while trying to create a list of all the books I've read. I wish now I had kept one. Of course I don't remember 1/3 of what I've read over the years but it's been fun to try.

I have to admit that I read for pleasure and have probably passed over some great works of literature because I don't enjoy really heavy subject matter. A look at my book shelves will tell you that!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and the discussions to follow.

Lori (who's not ashamed to admit she enjoys young adult books)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Curse Twilight! Well, you'll get along with me Lori, I love YA! You're going to hear me mention this a lot, but if your looking for YA, read The Gemma Doyle Trilogy.

message 3: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Long Live Twilight!

I'm right there with you, Lori, I don't understand why I love the books so much, but I do. There are a lot of adult Twilight lovers on this group and on GoodReads in general so you aren't alone!

Are you going to the movie in December?

message 4: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I am! I'm addicted to the series, but Twilight was horrible. I liked Eclipse a lot though.

message 5: by Theresa (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:35AM) (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) My favorite was New Moon with Eclipse almost surpassing it as favorite.

I'm going to the movie too - even if I have to by my lonesome. The idea of my husband sitting through that movie is great fun, but I doubt it'll happen.

message 6: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Oh yea! I'm not the lone Twilight lover in the group! I am definately going to the movie. I may have to drag my 17 year old son with me since I don't know any other adult who would go willingly.

message 7: by April (new)

April (escapegal) | 130 comments Hi Lori! I love Sarasota. I have relatives that live there and I visit whenever I can. I'm not a beach person, but there's just something about that part of the world.

message 8: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh, your poor son!

message 9: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Well, there will be plently of teenage girls.

message 10: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) I have not been able to buy Twilight, I have the other two, but I can't start on book number two of a series ... December the movie is out hu, I have time to buy the first and read the rest ... I hope, I'll just have to put all the other reads on hold for a while when the time comes.

message 11: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I'm interested to see what you think Lorena.

message 12: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) I'll let you guys know ... actually I heard about this books from a bookbuddy, and she can't stop saying good things about it. So she might go to see the movie with me if I read the books ... he he he

message 13: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Twilight = love :)

message 14: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Ok Emma, Carrie ... all, I gave in and ordered Twilight from Amazon, I don't want to be the only girl in the room that hasn't read the darn thing ... I'll let you guys know when I get them ... ;o)

message 15: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Hehe, okay!

message 16: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Lorena, you are going to love it. You cannot stop with the first one, though. You realize that, right?
Let me know if you want me to send you NEW MOON (the 2nd one)
I'll be glad to give it to you!

Hello Lori..
THis is going to get confusing..
Isnt it strange addressing people with your own name?

Welcome to group!!!
Wish I could share everyones love of YA, but so far it has not been a very memorable experience for me.

message 18: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh you've tried Lori? Oh no! What was the book?

message 19: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10638 comments Mod
Well, Wrinkle In Time was the most recent. A few months ago I read Book Thief for a different group, but wasnt really thrilled with it.

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh really? I just bought the Book Thief! Grrrr... I reccommend Stargirl for beginners. The Gemma Doyle Trilogy is the big guns. :).

message 21: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments I really need to read Stargirl.

message 22: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments Emma, don't listen to Lori, lol... nah, I think that because you like YA in general, you'll have a different approach. I guess YA is just something you either love or hate (kinda like Marmite... lmao) I thought The Book Thief was wonderful!

message 23: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10638 comments Mod
Yeah, my opinion seems to be the only negative one for Book Thief. I mean, I read it, and thought it was just ok. Nothing special. But everyone else loves it, so you shouldnt worry!

message 24: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments lol. Well, it better not have been a waste of money! Gr..... Carrie, you really do, Stargirl is amazing. And if you like that, Flipped is quite good as well.

message 25: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments Thanks, EMma!

message 26: by Mona (new)

Mona | 52 comments I love Stargirl. Well, I love YA adult because that's the age group I teach. I have yet to read The Book Theif, but it's on my to-read list. The Outsiders is a great book too. Never read any of the Twilight series yet, but I think I may give it a try. I liked Wrinkle in Time too. I just saw at the library last night that there is a movie version of it now too.

message 27: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Your welcome Carrie :). The Book Thief seems like one of the biggest YA books around now.

message 28: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (missfryer) | 453 comments I absolutely loved Book Thief. I love any book about the Holocaust, actually.

message 29: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10638 comments Mod
Its a great thing to be able to share the books you love with someone else. My hubby and kids arent huge readers, tho my 10 year old like to buy them.... hmmm... reading them, well, not so much. We tryed doing the whole 30 minutes of reading together thing which worked on school nited before bed, but since summer hit, i havent been able to pin him down long enough.

So this is where I come to share my faves. You are the only people I can talk to -- hee hee

message 30: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments The Book Thief is one of my favorite books. I keep telling my husband he just HAS to read it!

message 31: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) | 501 comments Lori, my 7 year old is the same way. He would read for school every school night but I can only get him to read a couple of times a week during the summer. His first grade teacher gave all her students a reading log to complete and will give them all a prize if they turn it in to her but even this hasn't motivated him!

message 32: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 163 comments Yeah I have to say that I am also a fan of the YA books...I got addicted to the Twilight series and cannot wait for the 4th. I have not heard of The Gemma Doyle Trilogy though and am going to have to check that out...

message 33: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Please! It's not that popular, I found it in a bookstore.

message 34: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (tsorrels) Emma, at my nearby B&N, they had a nice presentation of it in the YA section. It was on the top shelf, but the covers were all facing out.

message 35: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Oh, that's amazing! I have that in my Chapters too, and I hate any other Chapters that has it on the bottom shelf. One had about 3 copies of AGATB and 3 DISPLAYS of Twilight. DISPLAYS! I practically went mad.

message 36: by Michaelpinner (new)

Michaelpinner | 1 comments hi im new to this site but old reader and newly new reader i just restarted reading again finding theirs so many great authors and books its hard to pick the right author thatmakes you wanna read cause you wanna read them all but so liitle time so i guess you pick the ones that intersts you most i guess but in open for sudjestions

message 37: by Robin (new)

Robin It is nice to see there are Twilight lovers here. If you haven't checked out Stephanie Meyers site, you should. She has a chapter written from Edwards point of view and it is amazing. The only draw back is that she can't find the time to finish it.
Looking forward to the movie.
What I loved about this YA series was that it made me feel like a high schooler again, without all the misery!!
Cheers!

message 38: by Katie (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:14AM) (new)

Katie (hockeygoddess) | 257 comments Welcome, Lori! I am also a decent size Twilight fan...although, yeck, they sure did a poor job of picking actors for the movie. That guy playing Edward is supposed to be hot?? They obviously did not spend enough time in my head before they did their casting! And they girl looks nothing like I pictured Bella...hell, none of the cast people look right to me...I may have to skip the movie...I have a bad feeling it is NOT going to live up to expectations...

Lorena -- Don't worry...you will fly through all three books (well four probably since Breaking Dawn comes out in like a week!)

message 39: by Lorena (new)

Lorena (lorenalilian) Katie- I have number 2 and 3 at home but still waiting for Twilight to get here from Amazon.

message 40: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments Emma, I've givin in to pressure and have added stargirl to my TBR list.

message 41: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Haha, YAY! Thank you! It's a fantastic book. I can't wait for Midnight Sun. (Twilight in Edward's perspective). I've checked out that chapter, and it looks great!

message 42: by Jaime (new)

Jaime | 163 comments Katie, I agree w/ you on the casting for the movie...specially Alice...that is not what I expected her to look like @ all...

I am psyched for the movie but @ the same time hoping that it wont be a disappointment.

I also cannot wait for Midnight Sun...I heard that it will probably be another 2 yrs @ the least though.

message 43: by Emma (last edited Jul 25, 2008 01:59PM) (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Really? I love Alice! Though she is not what I pictured her to be. The rest of the cast isn't that good, but I have faith in them, from what I've seen of the trailer.
