Trisha O.k., so I think the best way for me to track this is to post at the end of each month which books I have finished and total up the pages, then keep a running total. So November will be the starting month and we will see if I can reach this goal by the end of the year. All right *cracks knuckles* let's get started!!

message 2: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey An ambitious goal, good luck, Trisha! Can't wait to see what you read!

Alisa (skippyb0611) | 52 comments Good Luck!!!! Make sure to let us know if there was anything that was excellent that you read... I'm always looking for new books. Have Fun!!

Trisha November Pages:

1."One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" - Ken Kesey Great book! Great characters! But you just knew that it was not going to end well...
Pages: 272
2."The Catcher in the Rye" - J.D. Salinger Horrible book! The main character spends all of his time whining and complaining about everyone and everything. Yawn. Not sure how this one became a classic...
Pages: 214
3. "A Farewell to Arms" - Ernest Hemmingay
Pages: 326
4. "A Separate Peace" - John Knowles
Pages: 204

Grand Total: 1,016 pgs

I felt the same way. I wanted to deck the main character by the time I was 1/3 of the way into the book. I can admire Salinger's skill as a writer, but Holden Caulfield (sp?) just had to go.

message 6: by Trisha (new)

Trisha Just finished "A Separate Peace". Short and sweet - but a brilliant novel. I must say that I actually loved it! Well written, believable characters, great read. Finally, I can see why this one became a classic - simple and timeless, ahhh teenage angst and coming of age in high school...

I actually have a "Lifetime Reading List" that has about a billion books on it, a mix of contemporary and old-school classics, and I have been stocking up on them thanks to half-price bookstores and $1 sales, however, my bookshelves have become over run with unread books, so my goal this year is to read as many books from my shelves as possible and to try and resist the urge to by more :-)

message 18: by Terri (new)

Trisha Lindsey wrote: "Trisha, what'd you think of Garden Spells? I read Allen's Sugar Queen for book club... it was light but fun."

It was ok. I did not love it, I think it was too similar to "Practical Magic". The main character got on my nerves pretty early on.

message 42: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey Good to know. My book club hasn't done a repeat author yet but it's come up once or twice as a suggestion. Your opinion on books seems to jive with mine pretty well, so I'll steer us away from that one if it comes up again. Thanks!
