although I wish that it could have ended differently for Ben,
I felt that the ending was appropriate, did you ?
I felt that considering all that had gone down , it was the only way Ben could have ended this. Your thoughts?

I will say that I don't think it would have been realistic for Richard's to become a Hunter and it would have been anti-climactic to let him be ginned down in the streets without some kind of brouhaha at the end.

Kandice, I can't seem to wrap my head around the hallucination idea, but that's not to say it couldn't work.
I could better picture everyone gone from the plane, just Ben and "Otto" coming at the Games Bldg. striking it head on with tanks full going 500 miles an hour generating a huge explosion. To me, that was an appropriate ending.

Not only was it an appropriate ending but it worked well and was one of King's more satisfying endings overall... very visual and the bad guys got what was coming to them. Ben was redeemed. I do agree that the deal would not have worked if Ben's family was still alive...

I really liked this story. After reading all the comments about "The Long Walk", I look forward to reading that as well. I completely agree that this is not a horror story.
