Have you read any other books by Peter S. Beagle? Did you like them?

I have not read any of his other novels, but I've read some of his short stories and liked them. I hear very good things about The Innkeeper's Song and would like to read it someday.

My review of his short story collection The Line Between is here:

I read The Innkeeper's Song before I read or even heard of The Last Unicorn, both some years ago. I remember liking The Innkeeper's Song better. For some reason, The Last Unicorn never really appealed to me. It seemed a bit "precious" or something, like things were more important that they really were. No, I can't cite specifics because I didn't reread the book for this discussion and I don't recall the details, just the overall impression. The book came very highly recommended and maybe my expectations were too high. When I read The Innkeeper's Song, I had no expectations.

Dawn (breakofdawn) I read the omnibus, The Fantasy Worlds of Peter S. Beagle, which has Lila the Werewolf, The Last Unicorn, Come, Lady Death, and A Fine and Private Place. I didn't like Lila the Werewolf at all. The Last Unicorn was ok. Come, Lady Death was in interesting quick short story.. And I liked A Fine and Private Place. It saved the omnibus for me. Much more of a character driven plot that action. There's really no action at all. But I found it to be an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Jon (jonmoss) This is my first Beagle novel. I enjoyed it and wish I had read it years ago (preferably as a teen so I could have a second different perspective now). I find it difficult to recapture the wonder I had in those years now that my own children are in their twenties.

Interestingly, I will soon have Tamsin in hand thanks to a serendipitous mooch this weekend.

Nancy That's a great mooch, Jon! I think you'll enjoy it as long as you don't mind a 13-year-old girl's perspective.

Christine | 638 comments I'm maybe a third of the way through this book and may not finish it; this is a fable and seems a bit silly at times. there are som many good books waiting to read, I' m not sure I have time for this one
