Felina I'll admit however, eating cold cereal and milk from my cupped hands isn't ideal....

Just grab some cereal and throw it in your mouth then take a swig of milk. No bowl no spoon no drippy hands. Win win. I did this in college.

Brenda (readingfairytales) You know you're a bookaholic when you hit the 30 item limit (of things you can check out) at the library, and all those books are due back in 3 weeks. There's no way you'll ever read 30 books in 3 weeks, but there's no reason not to try.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) Brenda, been there, done that, I understand.

Ha ha perfect. So true.

Jan (janoda) You know you you're a bookaholic when you're green with jealousy that Brenda's library has a check out limit of 30.

Mine has one of 5. *Sigh*

I do however use the library cards of my brothers, so I'm at 15 total.

...and then you go back to renew all the ones you didn't finish. And maybe keep the ones you did finish, in case you need to go back and check something.

message 57: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (readingfairytales) Also, I made my husband get a library card even though he never goes to the library. The 10 item hold limit wasn't enough for me either.

and a screwdriver. Don't ask me why the screwdriver. Its a geek thing. If you don't already understand, no amount of explaining will help. :)"

Now a day I am almost the same as you. My only difference is that I do enjoy a good bookstore, I wont stay there for hours. I just go in a look at the tables and wander the SF shelves. These days I rarely buy, Just look and touch.
Years ago, before my children arrived by stork, I bought to buy but now I usually see, if its interesting I will add it to my wish list of books I keep on my phone. Sometimes I will go back and buy bit often and not never go back and buy

As for the screwdriver, I carry a Leatherman tool, compass, GPS and flashlight all the time in my "man purse" as my daughter likes to tell me.

Bookbrow | 93 comments your renos revolve around bookcases

you are adding extensions to your bookcases

you list and rate books that you read each year trying to read more than the previous year (pre-goodreads)

while packing you try to determine how many books you will read while on a beach vacation

you find it impossible to pass a bookstore (if you have time)

Travelling to new cities includes research on good bookstores

You hardly take out library books, instead you prefer to buy new or used for "your collection"

finding out of print used books is a highlight

your "books to buy list" never shrinks

you read your book while waiting for the freezing to take hold during a root canal, because you do have a few minutes after all

like Laurel says, you somehow need to buy some book when you have several hundred at home needing read.

you return less and less books to a used bookstore instead they have equal value to the unread books in your bookcase

and finally...you realize your problem and you haunt sites like this

Ha ha. And the need to find others with the same affliction.

But you used to read that many but then you had kids so weekends are not your own anymore (plus the newspaper is a 2 hour readathon) but why leave a chance (of leaving the book on the shelf) so that when you gobackthat its out for 3months.

message 64: by Jeffrey (new)

Jeffrey | 51 comments You know your a bookaholic, when

You can plot your life by the books you were reading at various points

You nver go anywhere without a book

You take way too many books out of the library to read in the 2 weeks they give you

You recommend and pick out books for your wife and two kids

you research books on amazon, b&N, and a host of websites

you reread favorite books more than once

you read a book in the elevator for 30 the seconds it takes to go up and dwon to you floor because you can finish a paragraph

You buy books that you have already read b/c it helps your collection and you might read them again

you own books from 20 years ago which you will never read again but are relcutant to get rid of them

you read so many books a year that you have a 100 authors that you like

message 65: by Julie (new)

Julie S. People don't like watching movies with you because if you have read the book that the movie is based on, you rant about how they got everything wrong or left something important out.

(I'm sadly guilty of this one).

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I'm trying to recover from this...but it's hard.

sigh

oh well.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) Pff - they should just make better movies.

Dawn (breakofdawn) Six hour long Harry Potter movies. I'd watch it, happily.

Kerry (rocalisa) | 487 comments You see books you already own in the bookstore, particularly out of print favourites, and you want to take them home, you know, just in case something happens to the copy you already have, or you need to give it to a friend, or, or something...

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) Well, it never hurts to multiple copies of your favorites... :)

message 72: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments Hear Hear!!!!! Isn't that normal?

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I thought it was. You mean everyone doesn't have multiple copies of their favorite books?

When I started buying duplicates unintentionally is when I decided I needed a portable list of the fiction we owned, which led to having my library list in my Palm. One list is what I own and another list is what I'm especially looking for.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) I have a portable list of books I'm looking for...it's on a sheet of paper from a yellow legal pad. I keep it folded up in my wallet. :)
